I always wanted to play a warship of some kind. Preferably a destroyer or a frigate. This RP would most be in The World section because most navies travel alot. A storyplot needs to be worked out, though, but with enough people, something can be thought of.
I'm just wondering if anyone wanted to join.

A carrier group would be feasible -- it goes all over the world, and sticks together. You'd have ships and aircraft and whatever vehicles (forklifts, service vehicles and small cars) are aboard.

A carrier group does sound good. They'd have various reasons to travel together, like showing the flag in foreign countries, keeping the peace, combating hostile forces, and acting as a floating airbase for fighter planes and helicopters.
There should be a storyline based around one of these reasons. The combating hostile forces sounds like an interesting idea. But I'm wondering what kind of hostile forces. I don't know. Maybe they'd be combating an enemy carrier group, chasing and hunting down a dangerous spy submarine, or fighting against pirates. Not sure which one would be better.
But I think I'd play a destroyer. A female one.

"Showing the flag" is a good reason. Maybe they could be at one of the marine bottlenecks (Persian gulf, Suez, or Molucca straits) to keep the peace there. Persian gulf is a war zone, Molucca straits would be pirates and terrorists.

And the pirates and terrorists would try to disturb that peace while the carrier group is there in the Persian Gulf and the latter has no choice but to deal with them.
Reading from a lot of naval history books (from the Revolutionary War to World War II), I know that two of the largest navies in the world are the United States Navy and British Navy, but the former I know a whole lot more about than the latter.

Well, since the Wild Blue Yonder died before I could join(AGAIN) looks like this the next place I'm looking at for a non-car RP.
RPing a bunch of large ships could be interesting, considering their size and the fact that they'd be holding crew and passengers. *starts thinking up a character*

I'm working on a Navy fighter character. Aircraft have had a longer tradition of women in service than the big ships (which, like whales, might reproduce more slowly with long gestation periods and therefore people might have been rather oogy about putting females of reproducing age on the front lines, thus explaining Nerina's situation). Aircraft women, on the other hand, have been in combat positions for a longer time - defensive roles over friendly territory in the world wars, moving into offensive-strategic roles during the Korean war, and fully integrated by the Vietnam/Sinai war era. A lot of this had to do with the fact that, at least among fast jets, more females are born than males. A single boy with two or more sisters would not be an unusual family situation with them.

Well, I'd like Nerina to be unique and that she has to deal with a lot of teasing from the male warships telling her that she doesn't belong in the fleet because she's a female. It would make for some interesting conflicts within the fleet.

Alright, I've almost finished up my character...I just need to know what kind of ranks a US Navy ship would hold and I'm set.
Also, although my main character will be American, if the RP takes place in the Persian Gulf I might get a chance to squeeze in some Bahraini vessels...after all we're allies with the US and there's a Navy base set up here, so chances of our characters going near that area aren't low at all.

"In the Navy?" *villagepeoplesnerk* BUT ANYWAY. I was playing Ace Combat X earlier and I was suddenly inspired to make a character out of the super-weapon-plane Gleipnir, which was seen in mission 3 using a laser cannon to wipe out a small group of ships. It's got lots of back-up guns and turrets and everything, even optical camo a la Die Another Day! www.acecombat.jp/ace-x/index.htm (Click "world" and select the 3rd option from the bottom, just below the BGM thing) Of course, it would be SEVERE twinking for him to be some ruthless Von Klamp-style warrior, so I've just decided to make "Gee" just really blissfully clueless. Enjoys just floating about and watching the scenery and the little ships go by...though it really gets the boats in the panic when he gets close. XD Kinda like Red. Which nation he's from...I'm not at liberty to say...probably because I have no idea. XD

Oooh a fellow Ace Combat fan? How did I not know earlier? Unfortunately, I never played X due to lack of PSP, but the previous games have no lack of ridiculously huge flying fortresses, so it's not like I'm clueless.
Normally, I'd think Ace Combat's crazy superweapons would be out of place in the Carsverse, but considering that we've introduced magic and demons into it through other RPs, why not?
Besides, a child-like friendly giant with enough power to flatten a small city can make for some interesting encounters.
In other news, my character(whom I don't have a name for yet...that's usually the last part of the character creation process for me) is still pending.

Sorry, but I never bother with video-games. Not my cup of tea, really.
I was just thinking that the carrier group, which was Eva's suggestion, go down to Mollucca Straits where there has been a report of pirates (who are secretly working alongside terrorists) harrassing American shipping, having even actually sunk a few merchant ships. They want to try to resolve this peacefully, but that would not work out fo them as usual. This would actually be based on what real navies go through and the closest, possible high-tech threat would be if they encountered Russian spy submarines with not-yet well-known weapons, which would be a threat to all other countries in general, not just the United States.
I'd like to base this RP on real facts.
