Chapter 8

Ebony groaned as another volley of kicks woke her up from a nap. She was almost near the end of her term and she felt that the sleep that she was losing because of the kicking was making her just a little bit irritable.

"Now, c'mon," she told the child inside her, "You're almost as bad as the twins. Stop it. Your mother needs her sleep."

The kicking subsided and Ebony relaxed, settling back onto her thrice-soft sleeping pad. She closed her eyes to try to get back to sleep, but heard the door to her room opening and looked over to see her daughter peeking in.

"Mom?" asked Maven, "Who were you talking to?"

Ebony paused, looking at her daughter. "The baby," she answered finally, deciding to tell Maven the truth, as she would never lie to her children, "From the way it keeps kicking me, I'd say it wants to be born now."

Maven's eyes widened, "It kicks you? Does it hurt?"

"No, it just... takes me by surprise when I'm trying to get some sleep," Ebony replied, making a gesture for Maven to come closer, "You wanna listen?"

The little Viper girl rolled closer to Ebony and pressed against her mother's side like a kitten, and listening to the sounds coming from within. She could hear the baby making small movements, kicking every now and then and feeling her mother shudder in response.

"Were me and Krill doing that too?" asked Maven, "Did we keep you from getting any sleep too?"

"Well..." Ebony carefully considered choosing her words, as she didn't want to confuse Maven, "you two were very energetic... and I can say that I had a couple of sleepless nights... but you didn't hurt me... too badly..."

She winces when another series of kicks interrupts her talk with her daughter. Ebony shudders until the kicks subside again. Maven looks at her mother with concern.

"Mom?" asks Maven, "Are you alright?"

"I'll be fine," Ebony's voice wavers for a bit, "I just need some rest."

"Alright," Maven nuzzles her mother and heads out the door.

After watching her daughter leave, Ebony sighs and tries to get more comfortable on her mat as much as the baby's heaviness would allow her. Please, just no more kicking from now on, okay? Ebony thought to her baby, I really do need to sleep now...

She finally managed to drift asleep as it seemed that the baby heeded its mother's pleading, but the next morning found Ebony groggy and sore. She had been woken up a few times during the night by the baby kicking her. It wasn't as bad as the twins, but just as unpleasant.

"Just let your mother rest," Slaytor told the twins, "Don't bother her right now, but if you need anything, just come find me, okay?"

"Kay," nodded Maven and Krill.

"Now, go play," the Mustang urges them, "It is a beautiful today. I'm sure you don't want to miss a day like this."

The twins giggled and rushed off to find Hideki. Slaytor grinned as he watched them go and then went into the bedroom to see if he could make Ebony more comfortable. He was one of the few cars that was able to brave the Viper's mood swings.

At the diner, there was an argument going on between two rival racers, Sapphire Sky and Kamui Exan. It was a petty argument, but it greatly concerned these two.

"Why do you have to dominate every conversation and center it on yourself?" demanded Sapphire.

"Why? I'm just trying to prove a point," Kamui answered in an irritated tone.

"Some point," Sapphire rolled her eyes, "It's all about you, isn't it?"

"What?! No, of course not," replied Kamui, "Where'd you get that idea?"

And this is when the twins wander into the diner, hoping to get free anit-freeze pops from Flo. They hear part of this argument and the raised voices scare them. Maven and Krill turned and fled as far as they could from the diner. Both Sapphire and Kamui notice this and realize what they had just done.

"Oh, great," Kamui smacked her antenna on her roof, "Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid! Shouldn't have done that. Now Ebony's going to kill us if she finds out that we let her kids run off because they heard us arguing. C'mon! Let's go after them before they get hurt!"

With that, Kamui took off like a shot and Sapphire followed close behind. Both wanted to catch the twins before something bad happened to them.

Meanwhile, a black Toyota Supra was watching this chase with much interest. The twins, he thought, would be of great use to him. He recognized the two cars that were giving chase and grinned evilly. This was even better. Two of his greatest enemies out on the desert chasing a couple of brats that looked like they were the children of a familiar tuner.

Tony Blitz thanked the Manufacturer that he was able to get out of prison and had gotten some modifications done to him. Those mods would come in handy later. For now, he decided to follow them to find out where those tuner brats were leading Sapphire and Kamui.

It was then that he recognized the area where he'd seen the twins go. This, Tony recalled, was the same place where that tuner tramp, Ebony, probably the mother of those brats, almost lost her life from a serious illness more than five years ago.

How interesting, thought Tony, This is perfect. Not only do I get my two greatest enemies driving straight into my waiting tires, but those kids may be my ticket to finally getting my revenge on Sapphire Sky and Kamui Exan.

Chuckling to himself, Tony, thanks to his black paint, easily blended into the shadows of the cave and set about formulating his plan to lure Maven and Krill to him.

In the meantime, Sapphire and Kamui were picking their way through the cave, searching for the twins. Kamui was in the lead as she still had her street gear, despite being a racer.

"Maven! Krill!" Sapphire called out, her voice echoing through the cave, "Where are you? Please answer!"

There was no answer, only the echoes bouncing off the walls. It seemed so eerily silent that it was almost like death itself as the two cars continued to make their way through the cave, still calling out every now and then and looking for the twins.

Suddenly, there was the sound of rocks falling behind the two racer-girls. Both turned around when they heard what sounded to them like a cave-in.

"Uh oh, that's not good," said Kamui, as she shone her headlights in the direction that she and Sapphire had just come, "We can't go back. We have to go forward. No choice."

"That is what I don't really want to hear," grumbled Sapphire, "I hate caves."

"Well, we can't help that now. The twins are missing and we have to find them before Ebony finds out and has a fit," said Kamui.

"That wouldn't be good for her. She has that new baby to think about and it's about ready to be born," Sapphire pointed out, "and if she starts stressing out about it, she'll go into another relapse that would endanger her, as well as the baby."

"Then we have to prevent her from having one," replied Kamui, "Can you get anybody on your cell?"

"I've tried, but the solid rock here block the signal. Nobody knows where we or the twins are right now," said Sapphire, "Plus, I don't have any headlights, so it's up to you to provide us with some light."

Sapphire sounded displeased when she said this. She hated to have to rely on others just because she didnt' have what everyone else had. This made her feel a bit inadequate.

"Alright then," said Kamui, "It's this way... I think..."

Kamui turned her headlights in a random direction and started carefully foreward. Sapphire had no other choice but to follow the Shooter woman.

Hidden in the shadows beyond several huge rocks were a pair of golden eyes. Tony Blitz smiled evilly. Perfect. Come on, you two. Come into my trap. Behind the Supra were the twins, bound and gagged and unable to warn Sapphire and Kamui. They were scared of Tony.

Back at Radiator Springs, another pair of eyes, emerald in color, were opening in response to yet another series of kicks. Ebony had slept but for only two hours, and it was not only the baby that had woken her up, but something else as well.

"Slaytor?" she called, "C'mere. I need to ask you something..."

The gunmetal gray/purple-bue flame Mustang was soon at Ebony's side in under a minute.

"What is it, Darlin'?" asked Slaytor.

"Do you know where the twins are?" Ebony looked at him pleadingly.

"I sent them outside to play," replied Slaytor, then seeing the look she was giving him, "Why? What's wrong? Do you sense something?"

Ebony's jaw worked, but she said nother at first. "Yeah... I did happen to sense something, but it's not anything good at all. Please find the twins. I'm scared something might happen to them."

Slaytor got a determined look on his face, "I will. Don't worry and rest. That baby needs you now." He gave her a comforting nuzzle and left the room, leaving Ebony to settle uncomfortably on her pad, although she didn't feel like resting now. Her twins were in danger and she couldn't do anything about it.

Okay, just want to know one thing. Is there anybody else's characters that are still in Radiator Springs from the Main Cars RP other than the ones that I already mentioned? It would help to know this when I write my next chapter. Thanks. ^^;;

Strip and Lynda, the FC's I usually work with, would be living out at Ornament Valley camp by this time, and the place would have been open for at least a couple of years.

Ondine and Mike may have a second home here by now, and they would almost certainly be in to give a hand if needed, and don't forget Buck and his girls, though Buck would be head of the company helo fleet by now and no longer be a "bus driver" as such. However, he has no love whatsoever for Tony Blitz and would gladly make Mr. Blitz the recipient of very heavy objects from a very great height.

For Buck dropping something heavy on Tony, I keep thinking of those huge cartoon anvils that are occasionally dropped on cartoon characters... LOL!

Alright, I'll try to get your characters in my fic and find something useful for them to do...

Okay, I was thinking... which event should happen first? Ebony going into labor or the duel between Tony and Kamui? Of course, I'll give everyone else a chance at Tony too.

Also, this is to rescue the twins, Sapphire, and Kamui from the cave-in, but I'm not sure which event should happen first, though?

Perhaps they first start a search party then Ebony goes into labor.

Then they'll have to split resources, then when they try to save, the caved-in crowd Luke and Tony attack.

Hmmm... yeah and I could do a cliffhanger for each event. Keep the readers at the edge of their seats... and since most everybody likes this story very much... it would make it much more interesting.
