Not sure if this is the right place to post this subject, but this has been bugging me for awhile. How do the cars carry their children after they are born?
For me, I've been going with the harness that would be almost similar to a dog's harness with baskets on each side for one infant each. The mother car had to drive carefully if she took them someplace and would not be able to go on the highway because of the risks involved that would probably put her babies in danger. So she would have to stay on the slower, less populated roads for awhile.

I always had the impression they could carry them on their hoods for short distances while they're still small. Once they get to a certain weight they'd dent the hood, so it would only work for young ones. Although any ideas for long distances would be interesting.

I dunno.... Tobi's daddy would probably hold him by a tyre and dangle him about. Maybe like a little pouch under the car? So the babies protected from things outside and its closer to the parent? Or... On holidays at Centre Parcs ( woodland resort place in England) They have these bikes you rent and they have attachments at the back for babies and kids. It's like a trailer but covered over. I guess this would be good if they were travelling far. Here; Badly shooped baby. Kinda like a pram if it were for cars.

Nice. Probably relieves the mother of the extra weight, yet she'd be pulling her babies on long trips, though. The attachment to her back bumper would have to be strong and not break.

Something like a covered trailer?

That would help keep the elements away, like rain or snow or something unpleasant. Would protect the children.

I had a few ideas on this as well... for long trips when the children are not yet big enough to drive, they would have something that either parent could pull behind them, almost like those covered child carriers that you can hitch to the back of bicycles. EDIT: Yeah, like Ame's pic there.
As for newborn cars (who presumably are too small to drive properly or do much of anything on their own), I remember seeing in an early Cars fic someone had come up with the concept of a sling of sorts that the baby would fit in on the side and still be close to the mother. Could be like one of those African slings that a lot of mothers are using now - it could be one long piece of fabric with a ring and you put the fabric through the ring and tighten it... they're really cool. So maybe something like that for transport that doesn't cover a long area, or just around the house/garage? Also until baby cars reach a certain size, adult cars can just reach their axle around the width of the baby to hold them in place and keep them from (accidentally) driving off.

With these slings.... where would the adult attach them? Around their antenae are something?
In fact... how do cars carry anything let alone babies?
They have boots but the wouldn't really be able to reach back there to put in or take stuff out.
I still have the mental image of daddy dangling baby Tobi around the place.

Well, I'll use my OC Sparky as an example. He's got a roof rack that he carries stuff he needs handy right above him. He then uses his antenna to prod them off and grips them with his tires.
He also has a small trailer that he uses for things he doesn't need as readily, and he just detaches it (I assume Cars would be able to do that automatically), and goes around to get what he needs.
As for carrying a baby, I'd go with Ame's suggestion of something similar to one of those bike-trailer baby carriers. That would seem to be safest. (would you really want a kid freely standing there on your hood while you're going 70+mph on a busy highway?)

I would imagine baby cars could get around well enough on their own on the quiet streets of RS, but for busier roads the parents would want a rooftop carrier, a sling (it might loop around both rearview mirrors with the pouch on the side) or a trailer. Pickups could carry their kids right in their bed, maybe with a net or other protective restraint on top.

hmm, have you ever had one of those belts that had 2 rings on it that acted as a buckle, and you put the fabric through 1 ring and then looped it back through the other? That could be how the sling can be fastened. Then the car would just have to pull on the end of the fabric with their tire to tighten it to however tight they wanted it for the baby.

I forgot to say this in my last post; but I'd say that cars could drive right from the moment they were born, like many animals can walk/run/swim at birth.

I don't know if I agree with that completely... if you're likening the traits of cars to those of animals, then that would make sense, but I tend to liken them more to human newborns - they're helpless on their own and have to rely solely on parents or others to help them survive. But thats just me - it all depends on your take on Cars to begin with I guess.

Well, I do liken a lot of traits to human behavior too, but I don't know, I guess it just "feels right" to me that they wouldn't be completely helpless as newborns.

Even if young cars could get around well enough on their own, they might not be ready for the open highway, especially since they wouldn't have the coordination and reflexes of adult cars when it comes to driving. I thought of another carrier, especially if there's more than one child to be carried. Either parent could carry the babies on his/her roof in one of those clamshell carriers, although they'd likely buckle the babies in and the thing wouldn't have a roof, just the bottom half of the clamshell. Most clamshells would go on the roof, but some taller vehicles might hitch them behind: www.letsgoaero.com/ProductDetail.asp?Pid=17
