Please. Don't ask me about the title. It just came to mind. This may be a shot in the dark, but would anyone be interested in an aircraft roleplay? I have one aircraft character available, as well as a concept for a storyline. Ari "Merlin II" Wright (a P-51D Mustang) is similar to pre-RS Lightning McQueen of the aerial racing world. With the sport not being as big as auto racing, his name/alias is well known among eastern United States planes, but not so much with the helos or blimps. For all his talent, some call his tactics reckless and dangerous, while he begs to differ. He enjoys the thrill of racing through the pylons at high speeds, but underneath that his agenda is to help others more wholly understand his sport. Like in this world, air racing isn't as popular, and those who do participate in it tend to want to spread the word. The story could be 100% aircraft related, or we could mix it up, with incidents between aircraft and say airport personnel vehicles. Setting is open to discussion. With the ranges on some airplanes/helos, it could be all of North America if we wanted.

I have an airplane character named Petra Bellanca, who's a former barnstormer and now works for a currier survice (I haven't thought of the name yet... my brain died). She is a Cessna 195.

That would make her about the same size as Ari. Has she ever given any thought to air racing, or is her history pretty much set in stone by this point? Or maybe something like a sponsor partnership could be derived.
For kicks, I compared a few specs between the models:
Length (from nose to tail): Cessna 195 - 27 ft. P-51D Mustang - 32 ft.
Height (how tall they stand): Cessna 195 - ? P-51D Mustang - 13 ft.
Wingspan: Cessna 195 - 36 ft. P-51D Mustang - 37 ft.

I have a P-51 of my own, Jenna Jaeger, who is also a competitive racer on the western circuit. The two would almost certainly cross paths if they're competing. Here is some info on real-life air-races in general, especially the Unlimited class where WW2-type aircraft would be competing: www.airrace.org/classUnlim.phpFly low, fly fast and turn left... Mustangs and Cessna 195's are not in the same engine or speed class and would definitely be competing in different events.

Seems like some sort of sponser- or friendship between Ari and Petra would be more likely, then.
Perhaps the story could be about Ari venturing to participate in western events, where he would very much be the new kid on the block. How long has Jenna been racing? I could see her showing him a thing or two about the differences between east and west.

Petra would be able to give some form of support to Ari and maybe teach him a few of her barnstorming skills. They would be friends, like Petra is friends with Otter.

I imagine the Western courses would be a bit bigger and over a wider area. And Jenna has been racing since her middle-school years, but just went pro in the past year.

I see. Ari might have problems coping with the fact that he doesn't have to turn so tightly, and that could result in him accidentally passing pylons he didn't mean to miss. Or he may have problems with his endurance.

Jenna also has an interesting boyfriend, a black Spitfire descendant by the name of Malcolm Everidge, a refugee from a family reenactment troupe, and something of a gambler. He's a bit more cautious about playing "rocks" with fast jets though, ever since that unfortunate incident with three very P.O'd Marine Harriers...
("Rocks" is like craps, except with multicolored polyhedral dice and higher odds. Aircraft like it because it doesn't require dexterity to play)

How can I get Petra into this? Couldn't there be a barnstorming event that she can participate in?

Reenactment troupe? Being a history buff, that's something Ari has been interested in, but never really had time to explore. Yeah, he's kinda one of those borderline-obsessive types when it comes to air racing. But he's never played rocks, so I see another way for your characters to show him up. Perhaps there could be some big, multi-sport event taking place somewhere out west that all of our characters would be interested in...

I would be interested to submit a Cessna 172. That is just because of one TV-journalist here that owned a Cessna 172, until he landed on one mountain and lost his license. After he got it back, he uses now a Piper PA-23-160.
When he was on the Cessna, he was our natural disaster journalist, flying over erupted volcanos on his TF-FRU.
The character's name would be Michael Thompson, who worked in search & rescue flights for a long time, now simply a photographer for a living.

That makes five planes total. If no one else is game, I don't mind whipping up a helo to put into the mix. I've had my eye on a Sikorsky S-70 of some kind for a while...
I don't have a name for the event yet, but does anyone have a preference of where in the west this will be?

Somewhere in Nevada, maybe. It could be a fly-in type of affair (air show/sports/social event) bringing in all kinds of aircraft, the Pennsic War of aviation. If there is a show aspect to this, Malcolm's family could also be performing there, which could bring him and Jenna into contact (and conflict) with them.

I actually have a concept for a pair of aircraft characters floating around my head...but they're fighter-turned-stunt-jets, so they're in a completely different class from the rest of the characters. Also, I have barely enough time to manage my single car character(whom I'm waiting for both real life and the Cars RP to clear up before introducing), let alone two more.
