"It has been noted." Lionel replied. "However, that poking and prodding is necessary to make sure that what you have isn't about to turn a whole sight worse. You've been asymptomatic SO FAR - that could change very quickly. Better to have you right close to the facilities."
"With Gavin, I should be happy enough that he gets to class on time. He's going through that sulky period." Amara rolled her eyes. "It seemed that the moment he hit his teens, he became a troll without the benefit of a bridge to hide under. His only motivations are hanging out, video games, and girls."

Christine's face turned sour a bit as mulling over the possibilities. "Has he shown any of his father's urges?" She asked Amara, though the subject may hit too close for comfort.
"It's the flu." Robert turned cynical. "I'm humanverse born and raised, in generally good health aside from this minor bug, and I'm certainly not over sixty years old. Turn ugly is what? At most, it's going to be brown spatters in the toilet bowl."
((Why are the toilet bowls in the US with so high water level? Here, and in France at least, a dog shouldn't be able to lap from it unless it's a chihuahua that fell in.))

"I hope it's just his hormones and he'll pass through that stage once he's grown up some, but he could use some talking-to." Amara said. "The counselors agree that he definitely has some anger issues."
<<< Bigger toilet tanks? I haven't seen any Euro-type toilets here, so I have no way to judge. >>>
"The humans who have been born and raised here don't have those immunities, unless they've been vaccinated." Lionel said. "And the vaccine for this strain will take a while to make in sufficient quantities. Someone without natural immunities could get very ill, perhaps even die. We don't have the infrastructure here to put EVERYONE in on-station quarantine that might want to go."

"Perhaps if his father permits, he could be at the Weather's Camp for part of the time." Christine said. "I've heard good things about it, but still, you need to know if he really wants to be with his father. If so, you would have to find another time for the camp so you wouldn't alienate him more than you need."
"But you certainly wouldn't have a problem with just two more here." Rodger said.

"Depends if his father thinks it's a problem." Amara turned back to face Christine. "But it is a good thing they've got going there, for over twenty years now."
"One isn't a problem." Lionel declared bluntly. "No matter who they are. But two more set a precedent for something that isn't logistically possible or medically advisable here. It is only because of Pilar's recent troubles that she had the option at all."

"I wonder why he would think the rebellious behavior is okay." Christine snorted a bit. "I can't believe that camp has been there for so long. I remember at first when people just actively denied that Ice Age existed, even if it is the bridge world."
"Instead of running away in shame, she's being babied by everyone." Rodger shrugged. "Both ways do lead to different paths, both equally shameful."

"Just a normal teenage boy," he says." Amara rolled her eyes. "And it took almost ten years for most people to absorb that world into their sense of reality."
"Babied, you say?" Lionel smirked. "I wouldn't call the tough drug regimen and almost complete separation from human contact "babying". And in the case that you go into sequestration, it means exactly that. You and your buddy would not be seeing each other until you were certified as being completely clear from the virus. That could take a while, and involve all sorts of indignities that would be avoided on the ranch."

"I sometimes get the feeling they're still in denial." Christine said. "You wouldn't believe just how much I watch now between studying." She shrugged in explanation.
Rodger frowned slightly. "And how would it be at the ranch?" He asked.

"There's always some that just can't wrap their heads around it. The younger ones don't have such a difficult time. It's something they've grown up with."
"You don't have to go near any of the large critters if you don't want to." Lionel said. "All of the humans there were not born here, so you could move about a lot more freely, and you can let the thing run its course - with treatment of symptoms if needed - for far less bother, and you can hang with your friend."

"Unless growing up with those conservative people." Christine said. "This problem is here to stay, but not in many numbers. It's like those flat-earth people, still believing everything is just dish-shaped."
((We still have those around.))
As Lionel had moved a bit too far for Rodger, he was about to speak until he was disturbed by Helen loudly opening the doors she came through.
"And your friend has already agreed, and would like you to be with him during the time at the ranch." She said. And you owe him a great deal of loyality, such as the one he has given you. She thought, but knew that if she would say that, Rodger would again go in defense.
He nodded. "Alright." He said in a tired defeated tone. If you wanted to defeat something for short term, you would have never lost an argument. But Rodger had, and knew that any further retaliations would be futile now.
"Good." Helen said, Sam walked past her and over to Rodger. "The ride should be here within half an hour. You'll stay here in the meantime. Tell me what you want to bring over to the ranch and I'll get it from your rooms. Hand me your keys." She extended her hand.
She looked over to Lionel. "Thanks for the help." She said. "I appreciate it."

"Anytime, Helen." Lionel nodded. He shrugged, in the way of stretching. "Got me out of the office, anyway."
"Always a few. I don't let them bother me." Amara yawned. "In the human world, especially before the blowup, there were those who thought the moon landing was a fake, and nothing could convince them otherwise. Of course, we've only ever sent probes there, no live people."

"And even now going there isn't worth the bucks." Christine said. "I wonder when we'll get out of this 'proof of concept' and 'information retrieval' phase and get to building a space station? The humans lost so much knowledge in a field that has a very steep learning curve."
"Say hi for me to the rest of the team if you get the chance to see them today." Helen said before Lionel went. Now for the remaining two men in the room.

"I'm sure to see Jonathan and Picard at some point." Lionel said. "So how's it coming with the vaccine?"
"They're already talking about going to the KSC counterpart or what's left of it to snag what they can." Amara said. "That's what Picard was telling me."

"We won't have it by this flu season." Helen sighed as she wrote down in a notepad what to take from the guy's rooms. "Things take time. And it's a murder to get through FDA. And because how it is manufactured, it doesn't meet the adoption approval of human imported drugs." She sighed. "Ask me again in two years. All I'm doing here is collect samples and ship them to the college." She finished up writing.
"You two stay here." She said in a stern tone to Samuel and Rodgers before heading out with Lionel. "You've grown to accustomed to me." Helen said. "I'm far from being the foremost authority in medical field in this state, or even this county."
"People better think positively about that mission lest they could jynx it." Christine chuckled, even though she was a bit doubtful herself. "Too bad they can't snag the old space station as well. And then, it would be far from functional after all that time."

"Providing it doesn't just fall down and burn up in the meantime." Amara shrugged. "But they can see if any data remains, and maybe some surviving people that we haven't found yet."
"And we're always two steps behind the viruses themselves." Lionel sighed. "Little buggers mutate fast."
