"I had my own troubles with those "think-they-know-what's-best" people too and so did a Trans Am friend of mine. Had to keep those dirty Feds off her bumper for awhile so she could have some peace," nodded Ebony, "I never liked how they handled certain situations even when it doesn't even call for it."
She nodded to Elsie, "Hello."
*****
"Other than the Innerscape trip and the morning nap after that," said Delfina, "Not much. Except when Jastrow came and told us about what happened to Bree."

"Feds." Jackie's voice took on a tone of disdain. "Never did care for 'em."
"Jackie had some land disputes with the government, long time back." Bill added. "So naturally, her gorge rises whenever she hears, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
"Gran-Gran ran off a survey crew with a shotgun once." Elsie announced proudly.
"They try to nip thirty acres off my property an' that's exactly what they get." the old truck woman huffed.
"Well, gettin' back to th' medallion piece, it's gotta have some kind of energy inside." Bill carefully re-pocketed the item as he turned back towards the Microbus, who had been relatively quiet throughout the course of this conversation. "Fillmore, you had some books on ancient civilizations and UFO legends, right?"
"Yeah." Fillmore replied. "They're in my stash." He opened a side door, shook out a battered trunk and opened it. It was crammed full of books.
"And aside from Raven, not much happened here either." Dawn said. "We've been cleaning our equipment and stuff. But did you hear anything more of that Carl guy?"

Ebony looked at the books in astonishment, took a few out with an antenna and read some of the titles, "Geez, I have several reprints of these in my bookstore. People love them mostly because of the mysteries they provide that gets them to think for themselves of the answers."
*****
"Not really," said Delfina, "He hasn't really been around because of Nerisa."

"Good." Dawn scowled. "Less we hear about him, the better as far as I'm concerned."
"A lot of'em are first editions." Fillmore said. "Some even autographed."
"Wow." Elsie peered into the box.

"I'm hoping that we'll get to have some peace from the likes of him," agreed Delfina.
*****
"Mind if I read one of them?" asked Ebony.

"Go ahead." Fillmore gestured. "Just be careful with some of the paperbacks, they're not aging so well. Cheap paper and glue, gotta love it."
"Just the same, we're gonna buffer up the alarm systems a little more." Dawn scanned the boundaries of the camp. "And work on a plan to deal with intruders."

"Thanks," said Ebony as she went through the books, taking some out and putting them in a plastic grocery bag she had on her, "I'll give them back when I'm finished with them."
*****
"I don't want to make anyone feel unwelcome," said Delfina, "That would make people think we're hiding something."

"They'll mostly go up at night." Dawn said. "Nobody will see them during the daytime." The camp was already surrounded by tall stakes with signs and reflective tape to warn off-roaders who had a habit of running the beaches at night (and not always paying attention to where they were going) that they were approaching an encampment.
"OK." Fillmore nodded. Ebony was on his "trustworthy" list.
Jackie went off to attend her tractor, which was mooing. "Bossie wants her dinner..."

"I still have the wards up to let me know of any intruders," said Delfina.
*****
"Thanks," said Ebony with a nod. "And I think I'd better get back to the camp in a bit."

"All good." Dawn nodded. Not being a user, the current situation made her feel a little more vulnerable than usual.
"Is that the camp with the humans?" Elsie asked curiously.

"And, not to mention, we have a tuned Viper who's almost like a metal bloodhound herself," added Delfina.
*****
"Yep, that's where I'm staying since I think hotel rooms are so expensive anyway," replied Ebony.

"So what's Ebony making of all this?" Dawn asked.
"That's for the tourists." Elsie shrugged. "And it's a ripoff. Is there any chance I could meet'em?"

"She doesn't know that Raven can shapeshift," said Delfina, "I think she's still working on collecting interviews from those UFO witnesses."
*****
"I think maybe tomorrow morning," said Ebony, "I think they're still a little bit tensed-up after what happened yesterday evening."

"OK." Elsie nodded, but she had the air of a child who definitely remembered promises made.
"Oh?" Dawn folded her arms. "The ones still around would be getting pretty old by now."

"I'll talk to them and let you know what they think," said Ebony.
*****
"True," agreed Delfina, "but there's Wild Bill, who drew those pictures. I'm assuming he knows someone who was also a witness."
