"Nice to meet young folks with manners these days." Jackie smiled again. "So you're the one askin' about the UFO crash."
Elsie hovered close by, viewing the Viper with a mixture of curiosity and awe.
"He's usually pretty sharp about those things." Dawn nodded, "And far enough away not to be too emotionally involved. So how are the others handling it?"

"Yes, Ma'am, I am," nodded Ebony, "I hope you don't mind telling me your story."
*****
"They're doing alright, I think," said Delfina, "I had to go into Erika's Innerscape to remove a few electrodes that were controlling her thoughts and emotions."

Dawn screwed up her mouth to avoid saying something very profane about Carl. "And how did that work out?"
"We were out collectin' seaweed, Bill and I." Jackie began. "We sold it inland for fertilizer, 'cause other stuff was hard to get with the war on and all that. We worked day and night to get that stuff in during the peak season, I swear I can still smell it after all these years. One night in July, we were on the shore with other folks doing much the same thing, and we see what looks like runnin' lights of an aircraft, 'cept there was nothin' back then as fast as that, made turns like that, or looked like that! We never seen nothin' like it! It went on for maybe five minutes, like it was searchin' for somethin', then it went right down into the sea, looked like it was a few miles offshore. Boats went out n' searched, but they found nothing in the areas they could reach. Then Bill made those drawin's, and some of 'em even appeared in the paper, but after another week or two, it all kinda died down, with maybe the odd UFO enthusiast checking things out now 'n then."

"I succeeded," said Delfina, "She's not under his control anymore."
*****
"So you saw nothing more of the UFO, whether or not it came back out of ocean or not?" asked Ebony.

"Oh, Erika must be so relieved now." Dawn looked back towards the small boats, sipping their rations off the raft that was anchored in the cove. Erika was nuzzling with Randy between sips. "She looks happier already."
"Nothing since that night." Jackie shook her front, "But Bill recovered somethin' kinda wierd that he's kept to himself ever since. That little medallion-thingie."
Bill pulled the artifact out of his side-door compartment. It was like the gold one that Raven had, except more silvery and a bit smaller.

"Yeah, she does," agreed Delfina. Her stomach growled, "Oh that reminds me... Did I miss lunch?"
*****
"Where did it come from?" asked Ebony as she peered at the medallion.
(((((OOC: Calling it an early night... I'm not feeling well...)))))

"We saved a couple of hummus wraps for you." Dawn said. "They're in the cooler."
"I was pokin' around onshore sometime after, and I found this wedged in some driftwood." Bill replied. "Never seen the likes of it before or since."

Delfina went over to the cooler and took out a hummus sandwich and a bottle of juice, then went over to sit in front of her tent to eat.

"What did you think it was for?" asked Ebony.

"And Raven, so far as I know, is still resting in the men's tent." Dawn said in a lower voice.
"Don't know, really, but it glows a bit at the edges in the dark." Bill said.

"Should probably let him sleep," said Delfina between bites of her sandwich, "I really don't want to put him through too much right now."
*****
"That's nothing like I've never seen before either," said Ebony.

"Yeah," Dawn sat down. "We'll work out more of this later. In the meantime, everybody's signing a card for Bree."
"Now n' then, we do see a few lights over the ocean, though I dunno if it's the same kind of thing." Jackie said. "Gets the UFO chasers excited for a while."
Elsie, the little truck girl, was still hanging around, listening to these wild tales. It wasn't often that her great-grandmother would talk a lot about it.

"I'll sign that," said Delfina.

"I don't understand what the deal with these UFO Enthusiasts are," said Ebony, "They aren't like those that were overly crazy about the presence of the humans, are they?"

"It's coming around." Dawn reached for a large posterboard already three-quarters full of signatures and get-well wishes, and a pen with it. She gave it to Delfina.
"Maybe they're some of the same bunch, always into wierd stuff." Jackie snorted. "I'd understand if the humans are tired of always being poked and prodded at. Nobody thinks of how it'd feel on the receiving end."

Delfina took the posterboard and and pen and wrote her name among the many other signatures and wrote a short message to get well soon.
*****
"That happened to them several times," said Ebony, "Of course they didn't like being treated like that. They're still working very hard for their rights. At least enough so that they'll be left alone."

"Like they got every right to be." agreed Jackie. "I c'n easily symp'thize with'em, havin' had more'n a few troubles of my own with the do-gooders an' know-it-alls."
"Like the social workers?" Elsie chimed in. "They just made things worse when Mommy and Daddy split up."
"Yeah, sorta like that." Jackie nodded. "That's my great-grandaughter there."
Dawn then took the board and wrote something of her own before passing it on. "So what else did you get to this morning?"
