The old, slightly rusty Corvair woman at the postal/shipping station came out. "Afternoon, what can I do for you?"
<<< Ralph Nader's fave car XD >>>
"Good, good." Bill nodded. "Not that I'm paranoid or anything, but the roads have ears."
The Mercedes and the van were in the process of leaving quietly, but had made a note of the conversation and its participants.

"Hi," Delfina said, and pointed to the cans on Jastrow's deck, "We'd like to send these express to Doc Hudson for analysis, please."
*****
"Tell me about it," sighed Ebony, "That's why we've careful not to let anyone know of his presence. We especially don't want Carl to find out either."

"Got his address and number?" the Corvair asked.
"Who's Carl?" Fillmore piped up at last.
"Is that the foreign ship who was hangin' around, makin' friends and influencin' people?" Bill asked with narrowed eyes. "That was one of his forklift guys that killed himself rather than be caught by the cops, right?"

"Yeah, it's right here," said Delfina, taking out a piece of paper with Doc's address on it. She handed it to the Corsair, "Here you go, Ma'am."
*****
"That's him," nodded Ebony, "Though I don't think he has any friends here. Just enemies." Her voice went low and with a growl, "Excuse my French, but he's a manipulative b*st**d who deserves to be taught a serious lesson."
This also brought out a bit of rage that she had kept pent-up inside for a long time.

Bill harrumphed. "Well, we all agree he's got it comin' to him, and he's definitely after Raven or somethin' to do with him. Why else would they be buttin' in on Freda's work area like I heard or try to break into the closed stacks at the library?"
By now, the waitress was here with their orders.
The Corvair woman entered the information and printed it out on a waybill. She then sealed up the cans in a plastic bag and put them into a shipping container. Randy and the ensign paid for the shipping and the package was on its way.
"Should get there overnight." the clerk said. "Anything else?"

"He's clearly after something and I expect it's Raven," said Ebony.
She stopped briefly as the drinks were brought, accepting hers, "Oh, thanks."
*****
"No, that's all," replied Delfina.

Bill sipped at his tonic mixture for a moment or two before speaking up again. "It's a damn shame, somebody comes so far to pay a visit, and that's the kind of reception he gets."
"Yeah, the government sucks, man." Fillmore added.
"Maybe it's not OUR government, y'know." Bill scowled. "'Facturer knows there's no angels in Washington, but there's others a lot worse, and they got just as much wherewithall and far less scruples about how they do things. I wonder who, now?"
Randy, by now, was aware of human needs. "Delfina, now that we dealt with that, anything you might need to go back to camp for?"

"That's what we're trying to figure out," said Ebony, sipping on her drink, "But we don't know yet."
*****
"Yeah, food," replied Delfina, "I'm starving."

"OK, we'll get something quick to go, because Erika hasn't had anything yet, and then go back." Randy turned to the fuel dock, waving to the attendant and asking for fuel shake cans specifically formulated for consumption on-the-go. Jastrow did the same. Then, they started back for the camp.
"'Spose there still might be something of interest back at the library?" Bill speculated.

Freda and Nerisa, seeing the others leave, refueled and left their docks, following in the wakes back to the human camp.
Delfina, riding with Randy, watched as the boats headed out into the sea. They all looked like a miniature fleet to her.
*****
"Already checked," said Ebony, "All I found was an old article reporting on the UFO crash. It didn't give much information, though."

"There wasn't much in the paper beyond that." Bill shook his front. "It was kind of a four-day wonder and then people moved on to other stuff when nothing else seemed to come of it. There are a few other folks from back then who are still around, though."
Marty was the first to greet the boats when they returned to the cove. "Guys, wait till you see what Raven did! He changes shapes, just like Delfina!"

"They are?" asked Ebony.
*****
Delfina blinked and sat up a bit, "He did?"
Nerisa looked at Freda, "Who's Raven?"
"He's the alien that we discovered at the bottom of the ocean the other day," explained Freda, "He was underwater when you came, so you didn't meet him yet."
"Where is he now?" asked Nerisa.

Randy, realizing that he had let the cat out of the bag in front of Nerisa and Jastrow, went on in a little lower voice. "He's in the camp now.... as a human."
Jastrow, though technically a government employee, was no dumb bunny and was already considering the potentially life-complicating implications of what he was now privy to. "OK, if anyone should ask, I didn't hear any of this." He hoped that Nerisa was also blessed with such common sense.
Bill leaned in closer. "My cousin Jaqueline, she lives up on the ridge above town. She's the only '40 stakebed around, not hard to miss. She was with me on that night."

Nerisa nodded, duty-bound by her job.
"Okay, here's what I want everybody here to promise," said Delfina, "This information does NOT leave this cove. Ever. Understand?"
"Crystal," nodded Freda. Nerisa also agreed, "Yes, Ma'am."
*****
"Would she be willing to talk to me?" asked Ebony.

"She might." Bill said. "If she's awake. She lives with some of her grandkids and I suppose I could give'em a call."
Dawn was waiting for Delfina further up the beach, having sussed that Marty spilled the beans. "He came out of the water as a human, mother-naked, and we put some clothes on him and got him something to eat. He's resting in the guys' tent right now, because the change took a lot out of him."
