Sorry for the long title, but since I have the Japanese version of the game while most of you probably only have access to the American/European versions, I decided to list both of them.
Anyways, this somewhat old PS2 game is yet another addition to the growing list of street racing/tuning games out there. This one is more realistic than the likes of NFS or Midnight Club, but probably not nearly as realistic as Gran Turismo. For example, you cannot just power yourself through a turn, even a wide one, at 200+ Km/h and expect not to lose traction and slam into the side-barriers. When tuning or choosing cars, weight can be just as important a factor as horsepower. Since all the gameplay in the game is free roam(more on that later), you have to worry about your tires wearing out or your oil/radiator-water overheating in the long run.
The gameplay is different from NFS where you just choose a "Point-A-to-Point-B" race out of a list. Instead, you spend the game roaming the highways of Tokyo, looking for rivals. Once you find one, you get close and blink your headlights to challenge them. You then engage in a "duel" with them, where you both have an equally large "SP bar" which is drained when you're overtaken or crash into obstacles on the road. Obviously, you win by draining your rival's SP bar. Whether you win or lose, you can continue roaming and looking for rivals or call it a day and return to your garage. Over the course of each night, the performance of your car degrades due to heat and tire wear, but that can easily be fixed by driving into special "Pit" exits on the side of the highway.
It's a lot more complex than that, but I don't want this post to become too long.
Oh yeah, and this is the only driving game I have ever played where you can control the car's turn signals...you can even customize them in the tuning shop!
