I want to see this sometime soon. I've been getting really good word-of-mouth about it. That, and anything Frank Miller is involved with tends to be stamped with his own style because he won't settle for less. It's not meant to be a historically accurate account of the battle of Thermopylae by any means, see the History Channel for something more like that - but for a relatively cheap film with a cast of unknowns to kick booty on its first weekend of release is really something.

I going to see it. It just looks so awesome. One of the reasons I love Sin City.
The tickets have been selling out at the local theatres. And the funnything is, mostly everyone going are men, hardly a woman in sight.

Yeah... if that film were any more macho and manly, it'd be growing a beard and chest hair.

Hey, I don't care. I'm still going to go see it. It doesn't bug me. I chose the night to go see Ghost Rider when the bikers were there. But hey, bikers are cool. We had a nice chat about the movie.

I also plan to see it, more for the visual and the historical experience than the "potential hunk factor," unlike most of the female population of my school. An article on the making was posted in a recent issue of Time. Only then did I learn it was a mostly computer-generated project. The trailers honestly had me fooled, thinking it was entirely life action with CGI enhancement.

I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!! My mom does too, only because Gerard Butler, A.K.A. 'The Phantom of the Opera", is in it.

And to think they made it on a $65M budget, which is chicken feed for that kind of film today, with a cast who are largely unknowns. A huge amount of a film's budget these days is just the fees of the actors. It was also filmed largely in a warehouse in Canada. That can't make the union crowd in Hollywood very happy, but considering the featherbedding and outrageous rules and demands they make these days, they've made their own bed.

I'm going in expecting it to be similar to last year's "Crank"...not a very artistic or Oscar-material movie, but just a whole lot of action, gore, and one-liners.
And yes, the Manliness Meter does seem off the charts with this movie.

I just saw it, and I really enjoyed it. Just like I said, most of the enjoyment comes from the action, gore, and badass one-liners. However, I have to say that the story-telling(specifically the narrator's dialogue) was surprisingly good as well.
The final battle was a bit disappointing, but the ending that follows makes up for it.

Director Zack Snyder knows how to guide an epic speech, as is done on a number of occasions in this film by King Leonidas (Gerard Butler). He also knows how to make a battle scene look really cool. Despite knowing the fate of the Spartans, I cheered them on during their battles with the Immortals and others. However, much like a number of action and sci-fi yarns of today, Snyder uses visual stylings and CGI effects as a crutch. Yep, it's cool to watch a man stand down a rhino and even watch a wall of bodies crush a soldier. However, had Snyder realized just how truly amazing the real story of the Spartans at Thermopylae was, he might have cast off Miller's comic version and gone for the real thing. In short, the comic bookishness of this movie takes it down a notch. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy comic book films as much as anybody. The problem with this depiction of the Spartans, though, is that the real story is so much better than the comic book version.
