Okay. I have never read Eragon. I went into this movie with an open mind. I didn't hate it... but it is far from being even one of the good movies I can recall seeing! And here I was all hopeful for a movie that involved heroic dragons!
Now, to make sure I'm on the level, I'm glad I saw it. The cinematography was stunning and the graphics were incredible. The story, however, needed some serious work. It was a bit like listening to the story being told by a couple of ten year olds hyped up on caffiene.
There was no sense of time, the plot did not tie into itself, there were countless plot points thrown in that had nothing to do with the story proper, far too many throw-away characters... simply put, it was just... bad.
I'm still going to buy it, though. 5 out of 10 stars it may have been, but it was still fun to watch for a laugh.
And boys in leather are always great.

My good friend said it "wasn't what he expected..." I aint seen it yet, but I'm a bit worried, since I read the book and loved it.
All I've heard were bad reviews on the story but good reviews on graphics, which is the exact reason I hate Pirates of the Caribbean 2 :\ so I don't know if I want to see it or not.

I saw it and I'm reading the book now. They had changed quite a bit from the book to the movie, even the chracter's appearances. The book is wonderful but the movie just scrunched it into two and a half hours. It's not bad for a general summery of it but if you want the full story, you should probably read the book.
Other then that the graphics were amazing and I thought the acting was pretty good, especially Jeremy Irons.

I don't know that I'll ever read the book. I mean, the movie left a downright awful taste in my mouth.
I think what upset me more is it honestly felt like the kid had read Pern, thought "I like this story," and written a 400 page AU fanfic. Because honestly, the dragonrider's relationship with its dragon was identical to how it's set up in McCaffrey's Pern. He just took out thread and threw in an evil king as the antagonist, and the evil king honestly wasn't even that effective a villain.
I was sadly disappointed.

Yes it also copied alot on Lord of the Rings; the elves and their ancient language, dwarves and that a wizard/sorceror worked for the bad guy (Durza/Galbatorix Saruman/Sauron). Also that the title Eregon is two letters short of Aragorn (the king in LOTR). Also the elf is supposed to look exactly like Arwen, a major elf character in LOTR. Reminded me way too much of it.

Yeah, Eragon is... horrible. Unoriginal, badly written, and pretty much just plagarism of the works of real writers with real talents.
I wouldn't waste my money on the movie, and the book was a waste of time. I couldn't even finish the last few chapters.

I LOVED IT.
Everyone applauded on two instances. When Saphira came into the cave towards the end after Eragon thought she was dead, and at the end. XDD And my friend and I were laughing through the whole movie.

I also have to admit... one of the lamest movies I saw this year and I saw a lot (I am going twice a week to the cinema.. I am in a .. kind of cinema-movie club.. they force me to go *LOL*)
not that the story itself was bad, neither the graphics... but it was too "episodically" for my taste, they are there, than they are here again and than they go back there again, scene jumping through the whole movie... and seriously that evil guy... made me more laughing than being afraid *LOL*

I must agree with that, LizKay. I remember that everyone was asking eachother how they could be like 'Let's walk' and leave the horses and then all of a sudden the next day they have the horses again, that sorta stuff. :\ I didn't really mind, though... I went in expecting a lot worse than what I saw.

Vice-versa. It's the exact same set-up as Pern. Exact.

Man all I can really says is if you read the book, don't see the movie. My mom hated it, she read the book. I read the book too and the book was amazing they left out so many characters, places, and important plot points. They didnt travel through the desert or explain how Eragon learned to read or met the werecat or anything. The only thing I like was Saphira and the special effects they were amazing. oh and I still cried when Brom died. the movie was just empty... you didnt love and know the characters like in the book.
