How about family difficulties? Ya know, something bad happened in their lives which forces them to decide to become part of the DRH?

I'd always thought that they were just a bunch of middle-class kids from the suburbs, fresh outta high school with no real ambition or direction in regards to their lives in the long term. Enamored with the dream of Cristal-drenched, shiny plastic MTV pop-rap lifestyles, endless posturing and opportunities for small-scale violence without reprisals, they ditch college and instead spend a whole lot of their time (and money from their well-to-do parent's paychecks) on modifying their bodywork and personalities beyond all recognition, allowing them to do - pretty much what they've been doing for most of their lives - aimlessly driving up and down roads, little pretend ricers trying to be little pretend racers. They're living the dream, alright. ;D

Boost, DJ and Wingo are all tuner cars but how does Snotrod fit in? He's a muscle car :?
Unless he was related or a friend of one of the other guys, Then they managed to get him in the gang....hmmmmm.....*inspired to write yet another fanfic XD*

I think they were these kids, came from broken homes with a difficult life, and ran away from home, and found each other, one by one, and for Snot Rod, I think DJ or Wingo might of seen him, and felt sorry for the guy and invited him to join, but Boost refused, but after a majority vote, they let him in^^!

OJJ, that sounds like some real-life people (adults, sadly) that I know!
They might have met in some type of juvenile delinquent lockup. My theory is that Snotrod's a little older than the others and he was allowed to join the gang because his age gave them an advantage. Maybe he could buy stuff like nitrous cannisters that wouldn't be sold to minors.

They're probably just buddies that always caused trouble so they decided to form the DRH, I dunno...

i think niitours woudn't be the equivalent of something alcoholic, it would be more like a drug of sorts...

I imagine it being similar to meth because it would speed a car's engine up and probably make it more aggressive in the process. Both substances are highly explosive and illegal (at least I think nitrous is illegal for street driving in most areas?)

I think in California you can't have any engine mods, but body kits etc are permitted.

From doing minimal internet research, the only performance mod that is banned (at least in the US) is Nitrous, and even then only in the state of Tennessee.
Although I think there's a point where a car's engine becomes so powerful for its own body(especially with weight reduction) that it simply becomes "street illegal".
