I'm thinking their age doesn't have to do with the model, either, because Sally would still be a child if that were so.
I think their model year is when they 'come of age,' or reach adulthood.

To maintain some flexibility, I made the assumption that it was the year that the average age of the cohort of such cars reached 16 or above, the minimum age at which they can travel on their own. That would allow for individuals who are either older or younger than that.

Uhh... I think you misinterpreted my post.
Ramone is a 1959 Impala.
1959 Impalas didn't exist in 1954, as far as I know. >_>;

How do you know? Have you looked at pictures? Some of us really need proof here. That's what the debate section is all about.
And on top of that, did you notice that in the "Our Town" sequence where Radiator Springs had visitors and more inhabitants Flo and Ramone were there and not Doc? It must have been before Doc's Big Wreck in '54 and before Doc came to town to practice as a small town doctor.

Still though, I think the ages and models of the cars can't really be related to real life - the ages they act in the movie, and in the case of Ramone, when they were around, just don't add up.

Yeah. :\ Kinda annoying though, but hey, I'm not complaining! It bothers me sometimes, but in most ways it doesn't... If they went by the model years, Sarge and Fillmore would be really, really old.

hmm... about Doc's arrival, in the Art of Cars book it shows his qualifications, and they are all dated 1960 (which makes sense if he started studying to become a doctor post '54 crash... 4 yrs of med school plus another few years in a residency program) so maybe he didn't get to RS until the early 60's, when he arrived as a doctor.

well their cars anyways..maybe they don't age like we do. for my fanfic i just age them similar to animals. a short childhood of a year, a few years of teenagehood and a very long adulthood for as long as hundred years if they last but thats just me anyways XD...i'm wierd like that

I think that to some extent, age does exist, like the little purple car at the last race, he wouldn't be there on his own, but Mia and Tia are, so therefore they must be older, and they must age a bit, like with Lizzie, she's old, but she isn't dead.

I just learned in my Cars video game for the DS that DJ is one of Ramone's cousins, kinda weird don't you think? A DRH: cousin of Ramone.
