That would work since I have a human character. But, I've pretty much had nothing to do with Delfina so I want to, at least, put her in an RP where she would fit in, but because of that little argument that I had with Kamui.EXE about how the humans get to the Cars world, I couldn't do a thing with her. As far as I know, we're still in a disagreement over that.
But I don't know if I want her to be a human or a car, although she might be working closely with the interdeminsional portal and accidentally sucked through. I'd imagine she'd be pretty shocked to find herself in a different place where everything is sorta familiar to her, except that it's way different than what she knows.

Humans trying to survive in a world they never made and was never made for them would be pretty amusing. They would pretty much have to live off the land once their own supplies ran out, which means (in the desert), pine and pinyon nuts, agave pods, seeds and grasses, prickly pears, berries and cutting open cacti for water. I have an SAS Survival Guide and some military manuals on hand if anyone wants info on that.

Sure, and I know a bit about camping out, as well as actually having done it (there is a campground nearby where I live, so I have a bit of experience). You know, basic things like starting a fire and building a shelter and cooking.
And I assume that Delfina isn't going to be the only human I hope.

There would be some others. Maybe they could be running from the same villains that are taking over on the human side of things. The inspiration I'm using is combed from several sources: the Timeline Wars books by John Barnes, the North American Confederacy universe from the books of L. Neil Smith, and The Number of the Beast by Robert Heinlein. There are only so many things you can get from today's movies and TV shows because there are ultimately only 1 or two plots in all of them. Books are a richer hunting ground. Since it's in the near future and not right now, we can get a little crazy with the villains, who basically are of a number of races but united by their dedication to a harsh authoritarian collectivism, and they move from continuum to continuum seeking out the like-minded locals and co-opting them into the compact, where they get to rule their fellow dimensional natives in return for tribute to the greater empire.

I haven't been into the sci-fi books lately because of college, so this is something that I really don't have a lot of knowledge of, sad to say.
But, maybe having interdimensional travel as the focal point to make the trip more interesting.
There would have to be a way for the humans to get around when they get stranded on the Cars world.

Several possibilties here:
They bring animals in, or tame the local animals. The latter would require that the humans have already spent some time here. They have escaped here with little more than what they could carry in a 50-70 lb. ruck per person, but perhaps they may have mountain bikes.
Kamui, when you get back and read this, no, we haven't forgotten you. We'll hold off on deciding anything major 'till you're back.

Animals from the human world meeting animals from the Cars world might be interesting. Maybe, the animals themselves have figured out a way to survive in a world that's completely alien to them, although I don't know how they would do that.

Seeing that the two worlds have the same sort of plant life and have water, herbivores, such as horses and other ungulates, could probably manage just fine. It's the carnivores that would have real problems, unless protein-rich substitutes were found. I could just imagine the native kids coming across horse tracks and wondering just what the hell they are. If the human party are smart, they would do most of their movements at night and find someplace to hide during the daytime.

The only option I see with that if some of the animals that have been brought through couldn't handle the sudden change and died. That would give the carnivores some source of protein, unless they learn to become vegetarians...

Horses that have been used to living in a stable and being fed mainly on grain and commercial feeds would be at greatest risk for getting sick from a sudden change in diet, not to mention lameness once their horseshoes wear out. This could be a realistic complicating factor for the human party. Range-bred horses, on the other hand, would have a much easier time since their feet have been hardened from life in this very sort of terrain and they are accustomed to a diet of browse, weeds and coarse grasses. What a horse gets used to eating in the early years of its life determine how well it will manage in that enviroment. The bacteria and enzymes in a mustang's gut are quite different from that of a sport horse with a much more pampered existence.

So the range-bred horses would be able to get away from predators and the stable-bred horses wouldn't. The latter would make perfect fodder for the predators.
And would the humans have formed a sort of society to help them cope with their situation and stay sane?

The humans are already part of a network of people organized to function below the radar of the government. They retreated to the Route 66 area because it's away from the Interstates which are now controlled by chip access. The regime at that time in the human world requires all vehicles to be chipped and be capable of transmitting signals back to the authorities, or else their computers won't let them operate. They have also siezed and junked most of the old vehicles made before a certain date. That makes them too dangerous for these humans to use, let alone bring anywhere. So we may be talking about a group of multi-skilled types leading a "grey man" existence with their families on the back road, until one of them comes back with something he stole from the govvies, which blows the whole interdimensional conspiracy wide open - if they live to tell about it. They use their stolen McGuffin to get into another dimension away from their pursuers, as they already know it can be tuned to locate a continuum with similar environment. It requires a large Faraday cage of sorts in order to transport a large number of people and animals at once, a metal freight container or a few welded together would do this. Perhaps that is the first thing discovered by the kids... this odd conglomeration of freight containers with strange tracks leading out of them.

That sounds really complex. But it's an "in" for Delfina at least. She'd be one of the humans that have escaped her groups' pursuers.
So, we can probably have the kids discover this hidden society at some point at the beginning of their trip. Maybe they befriend them and help them.

Yeah, that's the general idea. If everyone is agreeable to this, I can set up the intro and the general explanations and logistics and leave room for people to insert their own characters within that context. Of course, we'll wait until Kamui's back before doing anything major. She might have other ideas.
