First of all, at what point do the fleshy and movable mouth and lips change into stiff, rigid metal? Because the mouthparts are obviously flexible, and the grilles and hood are obviously rigid. There has to be a changing point somewhere.
Second of all, what's the point of a tongue if the only thing you ingest is liquid? And what does the tongue attach to? Where does the throat, if any, lead?
So many questions regarding mouths.

Second of all, what's the point of a tongue if the only thing you ingest is liquid? Have you ever tried talking WITHOUT the use of your tongue? The tongue has a second function that allows people/cars to speak and form constanant sounds and vowel sounds. And hey! These cars DO need to talk, right? Explains the tongue. ~Kamui.EXE

How would gas taste to a car? Well, they would certainly need a tongue for that.

It would certainly explain why Fillmore seems to have so many flavors of organic fuel. Or at least I think they were flavors... I can't really remember.

LOL Danni!!
We found the "Look and Find" Cars book at the library today and get this -- Sheriff is depicted in it drinking from a can labeled Jelly Doughnut Flavored Fuel. So if there's fuel flavored like donuts, can cars also eat donuts? They'd have to, or how would they know what a jelly donut tastes like? I know it was probably just a cop & donut joke and not canon but it was an interesting idea...
Anyway, I think somewhere along the esophagus the parts change from soft to rigid metal. If they do eat any solid food, having a flexible esophagus would help move food to the stomach...which would be the gas tank? I'm not sure.

They have promo stickers for "Gask-itt" treats, so they must be taking in some sort of solid food.

Rollerwings, I'm more talking exterior than inside the mouth. At what point does the flexible part of the "jaw" structure change into the rigid metal we see on the rest of the front of the car?

well...I simply think exacally what most are thinking.... Cars have mouths or they wouldn't seem real. They'd be like Kit "the talking robot car" Having the mouth seems a little more pratical to looking alive and it certainly gives them more personality then just a talking grill. Plus...it is rather difficult talking with out a tongue.... *tries it* yeah.... it'd be like having novacaine in your blood or something. hmmn.... I bet they can eat solid things, only they aren't things like Jelly doughnuts and stuff.... it's kinda got to be like dog treats.... they say they taste like "Peanut Butter" or "Veggies" but if you've ever gotten the nerve (or boredom) and trried one...they don't take anything like peanut butter to you and me..... but the fact is, if you don't know what something tastes like from the get-go...it's hard to know what it doesn't taste like. As for 'Jelly-Doughnut' flavored fuel.....sounds interesting.... nasty.... but interesting. makes me wonder if it was real, if I gave it to my car if it would run better....... Anywhoo... that's my veiws on this.

I always wanted to see a car actually eating these... whenever I get to see the ad, specially in big size in the art book, I am asking myself.. what is it filled with? *gg* hmm, for me the whole cars in the move are supposed to be like a organic machine, there are a lot of organic objects having hard and stiff surfaces going into a smooth bendable surface. Well I didn't think about that too much, but I do think they have a taste and eat stuff besides... or at least that's what I imagine for a car world...

Hmmm... Perhaps their whole body is flexible to an extent? That would explain why they could nuzzle without loosing paint.

I'd say it depends. If the front bumper is on the same piece as other parts of the car, it may become gradually more rigid as it gets farther from the mouth. Today's cars have plastic bumpers, so they are a little flexible. I guess that in the Cars world it's the same, but somehow even more flexible. Older cars like Doc hay use an unknown-to-us extremely flexible metal alloy... And yes, I think they eat solid food.

I think their bodies are flexible enough that they can withstand blunt force with less damage than cars from this planet would, not to mention their suspensions are built stronger than cars from Earth. Mater's jump over the moon would've destroyed his suspension if he'd been an ordinary tow truck, and when he smashed through the fence he didn't dent anything. Lightning never got dented falling off Willy's Butte or when Chick knocked him off the track. But the cacti stuck into Lightning, which makes me think the cars' "skin" retains some flexible qualities.
