upcomingpixar.blogspot.com/2007/03/cars-2-disc-set.htmlAccording to the "Upcoming Pixar" blog, Cars is coming to Blu-Ray as a 2 disc set. So I guess that explains why they released the movie first as a single disc. Of course, there's still the remote possibility that there will be a 2-disc regular DVD release, but it seems doubtful-- they probably want to encourage people to buy into Blu-Ray. Sorry if this has already been mentioned-- I hadn't seen it anywhere on the forum.

Can't you only play Blue-ray DVD in special DVD players? There's no way I'm going to buy a new DVD player just so I can get speical Blu-Ray DVDs, they better realease it on regular DVDS too otherwise I'm going to be one very very very angry girl.

Right. Well, eventually either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will take over regular DVD, and then you'll be able to afford the player. But for now, yeah, it's a pain. I can tell you that computer animated movies look AMAZING in high definition, though, so it will be worth it when a Blu-Ray player and widescreen HDTV finally become affordable.

A way to beat the Blu-ray/HDDVD blues - JVC just released a DVD player that'll read BOTH formats PLUS the older DVDs. Maybe that's the best way to go?

But at this very moment, Blu-ray players are overly expensive. It's not safe for Disney to release the 2-disc edition only on Blu-Ray. It's like... a waste of money from them, hoping it will be a waste of money for us. Won't work, IMHO. I love high-definition for animated movies, it's awesome. That's why I hope Blu-Ray becomes affordable in a short future. But the future is not now. I like Blu-Ray for its quality, but I hate it for its DRM. But that's another story.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_DiscBlu-Ray is supposed to be the "next generation" of DVDs, with a higher quality of image and sound. Of course, to read these, we need to buy Blu-Ray players. The problem is that they are really expensive, and still relatively rare.

Yeah, and according to a friend, a blu-ray PS2 disc messed up her console. I think the PS3 discs are Blu-Ray. Of course PS2s can't read Blu-Ray, so there aren't any PS2 games on Blu-Ray . Actually a Blu-Ray disc shouldn't mess up a DVD drive, it will just do nothing, like if there was no disc in it, same as if you try to read a DVD with a CD drive...

Yeah, blu-ray discs look just like DVDs but can hold a lot more information on them (like 50 gigabytes vs. 4 on regular DVDs). The extra space is used to hold the higher resolution of HDTV video.
