Swept Away: The Shapeshifter's Lesson

DISCLAIMER: Cars, it's characters, story, and setting belong to Disney Pixar. Delfina Thompson, Black Viper (aka Ebony), and Stormbringer all belong to me. There is no copywrite infringement intended. This is just for entertainment purposes only.
NOTE: The storyline is from the current main RP, Swept Away.
The city lights shown in the distance. A small Ford Probe GT, dark slate gray in color with blue-white flames painted on her sides, was approaching from the southeast, with determination set in her sky-blue eyes. She was slightly tuned with an off-white visor, a medium-sized spoiler, but with very little bodywork, except for the chrome hubcaps she wore.
Delfina Thompson, formally of human heritage, had just taken the next step of her shapeshifting powers and learned to shift into the car form that she was now using. It had taken her just a day to get used to her new form, but she had adjusted pretty well according to the other magic-users. Learning how to steer, shift gears, start and stop her engine, and drive was easy enough, but it took her awhile longer to control her speed until she was able to get it right.
She approached the exit ramp that would lead her to the City of Nitropolis and took it. The ramp bisected right into Main Straight and into much more busier traffic. Delfina didn't panic at being at such close quarters with the natives, but just went with the flow so that she could blend in. After all, this was pretty much similar to the traffic on her own world, since ruined by volcanic ash, that she knew how to drive in this manner.
It was already 4 o'clock in the morning and Delfina was already tired from the long drive from Ash Mountain, Colorado to Nitropolis, California. She had enough spending money to rent herself a room at a cheap hotel that was just at the outskirts of the city.
When she had gotten her room, she could see that it was furnished in the way that would accomadate a car. It had a standard sleeping pad along with a standard nightcover, plus an extra cushion in the drawer to provide some extra comfort to guests. At least Delfina could be grateful for that as she bedded down. She was probably going to be sleeping all day before she would be able to do what she had come to do.
Maybe I should come up with a street name for myself. That way, they won't easily recognize me, Delfina thought as she slowly drifted off into an exhausted sleep.

Four tuners, a purple Dodge Viper, a blue Toyota Scion xB, a purple and green Nissan Silvia, and an orange Barracuda, were in the more seedy part of the city. Once again, the first three were in the back of an alley gambling while the 'Cuda stood guard outside to make sure that nobody came too close to finding out what his comrades were doing.
The 'Cuda was just sitting by the side of the curve counting how many bricks there were in the nearest wall when he heard the sound of a tuned engine approach his position. He stood up on his tires, ready to turn whomever it was who was intruding when a dark slate gray Ford Probe GT pulled up right beside him.
“Hey there,” the female tuner greeted in a friendly manner, “What's a muscle car like yourself doing out her alone?”
“I'm not alone,” the 'Cuda protested, “I'm here with my friends.”
“Oh, where are they?” she asked, trying to look over his hood and past his supercharger into the alley beyond, in which he was guarding. The 'Cuda moved to block her view.
“Uh...” he stammered, “T-they're closeby... J-just not in there...”
“Then why're you here then?” asked the Probe.
“Uh, er...” The 'Cuda was unsure what to say and would've blubbered out the truth if it hadn't been for the purple Viper who arrived on the scene to see what was up and what had caused the 'Cuda to sneeze so suddenly.
“Hey, Snotman,” the Viper spoke gruffly, “Who're ya talkin' to? You're supposed to be guardin' us.”
“N-no, Boost,” the 'Cuda said, “I'm not talking to anyone. She started talking to me.”
Boost glared at the 'Cuda, “Better not be lying to me, Snot Rod.”
It was then that the Probe pulled forward defensively, “Hey, lay off him, okay? He's doing his best to keep everyone else away from whatever the heck it is that you're doing in there.”
“Who're you?” the Viper demanded when he saw the tuned Probe sitting beside the 'Cuda.
The Probe smiled, “Name's Stormbringer or just Storm for short. I'm just visiting.”
“Go visit someplace else,” Boost growled, glaring at Storm.
Storm shook her front, “Can't do that. I'm here to challenge you to a race, Boost.”
Boost blinked, “Me?” How the heck did she find me this quickly? He though as he eyed Storm.
However, Storm, who was actually Delfina under an assumed street name, could pick up on Boost's thoughts. If you only knew who I really am, you might not want to race me.
“Yes,” she answered, “A race between you and me. So, are you up to it?”
Boost appeared to be seriously thinking about the prospect of racing against this upstart tuner who had just come right out and challenged him. He could wipe the streets with her. Or so he thought. Let's see how confident she is after I beat her.
“Okay, Storm...” Boost almost growled out the Probe's fake name, “Ya got yourself a deal. When and where?”
Delfina smiled and nodded, pleased that her plan worked. “Alright then,” she said as she turned around, “Meet me outside the city before midnight. The race is to be held there.”
“Got it,” replied Boost.
After watching Storm/Delfina disappear around the corner, Boost suddenly turned and smacked Snot Rod hard across the hood with his tire.
“You let her just sneak up on you!” the purple Viper snarled angrily. He was still sore over the encounter with the infamous Black Viper, who was really Ebony. What if she sent this upstart Probe to survey his territory before deciding to take it?
The 'Cuda cringed at the blow, “I-I'm real sorry, Boss...” he apologized, “I-I didn't mean to... It'll never happen again... I-I promise...”
Still, Snot Rod could've sworn he almost recognized who that tuned Probe really was just by the color of her eyes. Was that Probe really her? Snot Rod thought to himself, his mind on someone else. He did not know yet that Storm and Delfina are one and the same.
Boost just glowered, “It'd better not.”
* * * * *
Midnight approached and Delfina was already waiting for Boost and his gang to show up. She had filled up her tank a few hours ago and had taken a brief nap just so that she could be alert during the race.
Soon, she heard the rumble of a V10 engine approach and with magical senses she could tell who's engine that was. Her sky-blue eyes shifted over as the purple tuned Viper pulled up beside her.
“Alright,” Boost growled, “Let's get this over with.”
“Oh, don't be so impatient,” Delfina chided the Viper, “We'll start the race soon enough.”
Boost just snorted at her and waited for the signal to start.
Delfina gave the signal and both Viper and Probe took off down the road. Boost's crew followed along at a slower pace because they wanted to see what was going to happen to the two street-racers.
It was a good thing that there was no traffic at that late of night, so Delfina had chosen a good place to race without any interference from any cops. But that didn't keep the others from worrying about getting caught.
Both Delfina and Boost kept side-by-side, neither one not wanting to give the other quarter. It seemed to Boost as he concentrated on the road that “Storm” was quite an exceptional and experienced street-racer.
If she is so good, he thought, then why haven't I heard of her until just now? I need to trick her somehow...
Delfina herself was concentrating on the road as well, but she could just tell what her opponent was thinking. She gave a hidden smirk. So he thinks that he can get the best of me, does he? Well, we'll see about that.
She muttered an ice spell and from the treads of her tires spread very thin sheets of ice on the blacktop behind her. Delfina had pulled slight ahead of Boost, wanting to give him a small taste of what she could do. The ice on the road looked a lot like black ice on a moonless night. Very dangerous.
“WHOA!”
She looked back at the shout and saw Boost slipping and sliding on the icey road that she had created. Not wanting to cause an unnecessary accident, Delfina lay off the ice spell.
Boost was furious because of the trick that “Storm” had played on him and looking to be not in control of his steering and grip on the road to his crew, whom he knew was following the race. He did not want to look foolish to them and prepared to get even.
The purple Viper picked up some speed and shot forward, edging up to the Probe's back bumper. He gave her a harsh bump and tried to force her over the berm to see if he could crash her.
Delfina temporarily lost her grip on the road when Boost shoved her, but managed to regain her balance. Yet, she had sustained a bit of damage from the bits of rock that had flown up from the spinning of her tires, which glanced smartly off her side, making several nicks in the door panel. That stung, but she was determined not to give up. Gunning her engine, she tore off after Boost.
This time, it was not going to be a simple ice spell, but something much more drastic. Delfina focused in on Boost's breaks and muttered a locking spell.
A squeal of breaks reached her and a yelp of surprise, followed by a growl of frustration, from the Viper. Delfina sped past Boost in a slate gray streak and crossed the designated finish line, which happened to be a lamp post.
Delfina slowed down and pulled over, waiting for Boost to come up alongside. She could tell as he did so that he was panting heavily and looking like he was not in the best of moods. His crew pulled up shortly afterwards.
“Whoa, dude,” said the blue Scion, “She beat you.”
“Shut up, DJ,” growled Boost, “I know that already.”
Uh, Boss...” said the green and purple Silvia, noticing something odd about Storm/Delfina.
“Not now, Wingo,” Boost interrupted before turning his attention back to the Probe, “Okay, ya won. What do I owe ya?”
Delfina blinked, “Owe me?” Then she chuckled and shook her front, “No, I don't think there's anything that you can owe me. Beating you in that race proved my point.”
“What point?” asked the Viper.
“That you can't mess with a human,” Delfina replied bluntly.
“What?” both Boost and his crew exclaimed in unison and staring at Delfina in surprise.
Snot Rod was the first to regain his senses and looked upon the Probe in wonderment, “Human? Like the ones we saw on TV?”
“Yes,” Delfina nodded, “and I'm one of those humans.”
“Wait just a second, Man,” Wingo blurted out, pointing a tire at Delfina, “How can you say that you're one of those humans when you're a car?”
“Simple,” Delfina answered Wingo's question, “I'm a shapeshifter.”
“A what?” asked a confused Snot Rod. He cringed when Boost raised a tire to smack him, but Delfina had moved to place herself between them.
“Shapeshifter,” Delfina clarified, keeping her sky-blue eyes on Boost, “as in someone who can shape themselves into something or someone different. Hence how I was able to take on the form of a car.”
Boost, Wingo, DJ, and Snot Rod all looked at each other, then back at Delfina.
“Alright,” said the Viper, “Who exactly are you?”
“Me? My name's Delfina Thompson,” the Probe replied, then flicked her antenna, which brought forth an illusion. It depicted an image of that of a lavender-skinned gargoyle female with the same sky-blue eyes, “And I'm willing to bet you know who this is.”
Out of all four of the DRH, Snot Rod was the first to be able to figure it out. “Omigosh, that's you!” he blurted out, causing the others to look at him.
“How do you know?” demanded Boost.
“Look at her eyes,” Snot Rod gestured with a tire, “She and that creature-thing both have the same color of eyes! Sky-blue!”
“Yeah, Man, come to think of it, they both have the same color,” interjected Wingo.
“And,” Delfina added, “I did some research on the make and model I've taken on and found that Probes don't have sky-blue eyes. That's the one feature that I can't change when I shift forms.”
Boost nodded, “Oh, okay.”
“I have to get going now,” Delfina turned her front wheels in the direction that led out of the city, “It was nice getting the chance to race with you, Boost. Hope to do so again. See you guys next time.”
The DRH sat there for a few minutes until Delfina had disappeared into the darkness, then turned back toward Nitropolis. However, one was slower than the others.
As he looked back at the now-empty road, Snot Rod wondered if he would ever get to see Delfina again. Maybe if I get some free time away from the others, he thought hopefully, I can go to that mountain by myself to visit her.
Then the 'Cuda turned to catch up with the rest of his companions as they headed back to Nitropolis.
