“Oooh, pwetty colahs.”
A small Scion/Jeep mix stared out the window in wonder at the fantastic colors outside. He was fascinated by all the reds, oranges, and yellows that now adorned the trees this autumn season. His natural curiosity was something that his mother, a green Jeepsan with black flames, found interesting.
“Yes, JD, pretty colors,” she said lightly, “That means it's the autumn season now.”
JD turned and looked at her, “Wat autumn?”
Tai smiled at her son. “C'mon,” she said gently, lowering her hood for JD to clamber on, “I'll show you.”
After making sure that JD was secure on her hood and would not fall off as she drove, Tai left the house with her son. There was a park a short distance away and Tai had decided to head there as she knew that other families took their children to explore. She found a nice shady spot under a tree and settled there, letting her frame touch the soft grass and splaying her wheels a bit to relax.
JD stood on the edge of his mother's hood and looked down, gauging the distance that he would have to jump from up there to down on the grass. He managed to make it down with not so much as a stumble and crept over to rest beside his mother.
As the pair rested, colored leaves fluttered down from the branches of the tree that they were under. Some of them landed near JD and others came to rest near Tai's tires. JD's attention was on them and he reached out and pulled one leaf that looked like it had colored yellow halfway through toward him. He patted Tai's side to get her attention and she looked down at him.
“What is it, Hon?”
“Mommy, tee boken,” JD held out the leaf to her.
Tai smiled again, “Aw, it's not broken, JD. It's just shedding its leaves to make way for new ones next spring.”
“Not hurt tee?” asked JD.
“No,” Tai shook her front and replied reassuringly, “Not hurt tree. It's perfectly fine with it.”
JD thought this over. Then a broad smile appeared on his front. “Okie, Mommy!” he said brightly.
It was a peaceful time at the park and both Tai and JD enjoyed every minute that they were able to stay there. The feeling of not having to worry about anything was nice for once.
The End
