There was the sound of crying somewhere in the tunnels, but Boost was unable to figure out where in those dark places his sister had gone. When she had found out, unintentionally overhearing the conversation that her brother was having with another young tuner, that there was no possible way that she was ever going to have a happy life ever again, 13-year-old Ebony had bolted and ran off to hide. And now she was crying.
Boost felt that terrible feeling rip at his engine as he listened to the crying. Oh, Ebs, the 15-year-old Viper youth thought with much sympathy, I wish that you could tell me what's bothering you. He wanted to help his sister, but didn't know how.
I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.
Was it because she was homeless at a young age that's bothering her? Was it the fact that she has no other family except for her brothers? It hurt Boost to see and hear his sister like this. Ebony had a tendency to act on her emotions instead of thinking clearly at her age.
But, Boost had to go see where Ebony had holed herself up this time and headed into the tunnels to find her, following the occasional broken sobs.
What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
Meanwhile, far away in another part of the tunnel that she had fled into, a 13-year-old Viper was laying on the hard, uneven ground, choking back sobs that threatened to overwhelm her fragile psyche and her small body. She was hurting from what she had just overheard and couldn't find the proper description for what she was currently feeling.
"W-why didn't he t-tell me...?" she asked the silent, empty space around her, her body wracked with sobs, "I-I thought I could t-trust my own b-brother n-not to k-keep ssssecrets f-from me..."
She coughed on a bit of dust that she had accidentally breathed in. Ebony felt hot under her hood and was beginning to get the chills. The fact that her health was quite weak didn't register in the young girl's mind at the moment.
"N-never knew what..." she held back a sob, "a h-home life was like..."
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.
Ebony had been rendered homeless at a very early age. The thought of being abandoned by those that were supposed to love her was a terrible burden on a mind so young. She saw it as a reason for being useless to the rest of the world. She wasn't like them at all and nobody really cared about somebody like her. She was always alone and no other child her age wanted to play with her.
Open your eyes and look outside, find the reasons why.
You've been rejected, and now you can't find what you left behind.
"I-I'll always be like this..." she sniffed, "I'll n-never have a future..."
More tears were trickling down her sides. She shuddered as her body was wracked with more sobs that she was unable to hold it all back. All she wanted was to have a family just like everybody else and now because of her low status in society, she couldn't even have that. After a brief silence broken only by faint sobs, Ebony picked herself up. She thought that if that was the way it was going to be, than she couldn't do anything about it.
Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.
It was then that she thought she heard her brother's voice calling out to her. She froze, as if answering would get her into trouble. She didn't want that to happen to her.
Ebony was fortunate that she was born a natural black color so it was easier for her to hide in the shadows and stay out of Boost's sight. Yet, that didn't prevent him from sniffing her out. Boost pushed back some old boxes that his sister was hiding behind. He frowned when he heard her sneeze.
"That doesn't sound good, ya know," he told her.
"Shut up..." Ebony coughed, "I w-wanna know why you k-kept this from me..."
"I wanted ta protect you, Ebony," Boost answered, "Ya know I love ya ta death."
"Well, it ain't workin'...!" Ebony snapped, keeping herself from crying again, "Y-you lied to me!"
She broke off and sped away down the tunnel. She wanted to be far away from her brother now, moving swiftly, yet stopping suddenly to cough up this messy oil/anti-freeze mixture. Ebony started to realize that she was becoming ill at that time. She had been ill all her life and there had been nobody to help her cope.
"N-nobody wants m-me..." she sobbed as she settled again, "T-they don't c-care... I'm n-nothing to them..."
She felt more tears begin to well up. Why does this have to happen to her? Why do they hate her so much because of what she had to become to survive?
Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can't find.
She's losing her mind.
She's fallen behind.
She can't find her place.
She's losing her faith.
She's fallen from grace.
She's all over the place.
Yeah,oh
"Ebony!" Boost called out, his voice full of worry, "Where are you?"
The young Viper girl didn't want to answer her brother. She shivered and stayed still. But when she heard him call again, she recognized just how worried he was when he couldn't find her. Ebony rushed out from behind her hiding place and burrowed into her brother's fender.
"W-why do they h-hate us...?" she asked faintly.
"Because we're different," answered Boost, "Because we're not like the rest of them."
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.
"I-I'm scared..." Ebony whimpers.
There was silence between to two siblings, who acted as if that silence were broken everything would be ruined for them. Boost drew his sister closer against him with an antenna and let her snuggle against him as she was crying. How he hated to see her so upset.
She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah
She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah
He nudged her gently. "C'mon," he said softly, in a tone that he rarely showed in front of the rest of the gang, "Let's get you back home. You're sick and you need to rest."
Ebony only nodded numbly and followed her brother back to the Arena, but she still felt so lost. Will she ever find happiness or will she be sad forever?
The End
