A CHILD IS BORN

The friendship between Meredith Star and Luke Grayston was beginning to blossom into a full-fledged relationship. Everybody could tell that the Corvette and the Skyline had feelings for each other and had begun to speculate that there would be a child born soon who would be a mix of both parents and then some.
Meredith had entered the clinic at one point and come back out with a sort of mask over her face, but everyone knew that something was up. She was now up at the Wheel Well with Luke when she decided that right then and there she would tell him the news.
“Luke?” she asked the Skyline nestled beside her, “I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?” the Skyline blinked and looked over at her curiously.
“I'm in term,” Meredith said simply, but she felt quite apprehensive about what Luke's reaction would be to that piece of news.
Luke, again, blinked in surprise. “What? Y-you are?” Then he nuzzled the Corvette affectionately, “That's great! I love you! We're going to be parents! How far along are you already, Mere?”
Meredith chuckled as she watched Luke become excited upon hearing the news. She nuzzled him back, “I love you too. I'm already one month along, but please calm down. I have six more months to go. This is all new to me too, but we can get through this together. Okay, Luke?”
“Okay,” nodded the Skyline, smiling sheepishly.
As Meredith advanced in her term, swelling out slightly, Luke supported her wholeheartedly. He would do things for her, like keeping her happy and calm and making sure she was healthy for the birth of the baby.
Meredith, herself, was feeling the symptoms of the term, noticing that she was becoming heavier as the child grew within her and slower because of the child's weight. She had to stop and rest more often than usual, as most of her energy was going to her baby.
Whew! Ebony was right about this term business, the gravid Corvette thought, I'm exhausted and it's taking most of my strength away.
She was resting in the bedroom she shared with Luke one rainy afternoon when she felt it. The sharp pains that usually told of oncoming labor followed up by childbirth.
Elizabeth and Amber came over to help her. Luke was right by her side, comforting her with soothing words and giving her encouragement that she can do it.
“We're going to be parents...” she told her mate, wincing as another contraction gripped her body.
“Uh huh...” Luke nodded, but he was beginning to feel unsure about this whole parenthood thing.
Meredith saw the uncertainty in Luke's face and began to worry. What is he thinking?
“Luke... I need your help in this...” she whimpered a little bit as another painful contraction struck her. She gasped and winced, but knowing that this was going to be over soon.
“I'm here, Meredith,” Luke nuzzled her, “Just let it happen.”
Encouraged by this, Meredith gave it her best and soon she lay on her pad, exhausted, yet proud. Alongside her was a tiny form of silver and violet Corvette/Skyline mix.
Luke seemed to melt at the sight of his daughter. She looked so beautiful and innocent. He forgot for a moment that he had been so uncertain about being a father.
“Are you still worried that you might turn out to be just like your grandfather...?” Meredith asked him.
“Yeah, “Luke sighed and looked down, “I just have this feeling that I might not be a good father to our daughter.”
Meredith nuzzled him, “Of course you will, Luke... you'll be a great father... you're nothing like your grandfather...”
“But he's her great-grandfather,” said Luke, “she'll want to know about him. I'd like to keep that knowledge from her as long as possible until she's old enough to understand the situation between him and me.”
Meredith understood this perfectly. “I see...” she nodded, “You don't want her to get hurt... I want to protect her too from the knowledge of my father...”
Although still worn from the birth, Meredith leaned over and nuzzled Luke.
“Relax, we'll be okay as parents to our daughter...” Meredith assured him, “I've been told by Ebony that first time parents aren't always perfect...”
“Yeah, I can see how she had a hard time with the twins, but had managed to raise them as good as she was able,” Luke nodded, “We're just like her in a way, I guess.”
“We'll learn as we go...” said Meredith.
Luke nodded in agreement. “So, have you thought of a name for our daughter yet?” asked the Skyline.
“I think...” Meredith paused for a second to stifle a yawn, “I think so... How does the name Juniper Lee Grayston sound to you...?”
Luke smiled and nuzzled his mate and daughter, settling beside them. “It's a nice name. I like it,” he kissed Meredith on the fender, “Get some sleep, Hon. You need it. I'll watch over the both of you.”
Meredith only gave a faint, yet satisfied smile and drifted asleep against the Skyline's side with her new daughter – her and Luke's daughter – beside her.
