It's a one-shot, so It's not done yet. I'll post it here on HH and on my ff.net account when I finish it. Taiomega: Thanks for the list! I'll definately use the carburetor failure; maybe on Ramone... You gave me a gold mine. Does anyone else think Mater's rust is what's going to get him in the end? AHHHHHH I read Ramone and then I just freaked out... sorry... Holy crap.

Don't worry, he goes in his sleep... or at least that's when it starts. Generally people don't stay asleep when they're suffocating. But he doesn't suffer for very long! Honest!

Mater seems just as likely to take himself out while doing some kind of stunt. No offense to my fellow Mater fans but you know the whole redneck's last words joke: "Hold mah beer and watch THIS!"

I don't think the engine shutting off would kill a car...at least, not immediately. Lightning ran out of fuel and was still alive, conscious, and not even all that distressed. Sally supposedly broke down outside Radiator Springs, and yet she's still alive and healthy. I can't imagine an engine managing to stay running through some of the crashes at the beginning and end of the movie(remember, McQueen had to push the King through the finish line), and yet all the victims came out fine in the end.
Hell, it might be practically impossible for a well-maintained car to die of "natural causes". Which is one of the aspects I find most disturbing about Cars: The only way to go is through some violent accident or brutal murder.

I think that there may be a certain amount of time a car can go without its engine running unwillingly. See, it's my guess that when a car isn't doing anything other than talking its engine is usually idle, but if its engine is dead of a cause that would need extensive work then they could die. Just my confusing theory.

XD Ah... Thank you, Lord, for giving us the Blue Collar Comedy Tour... Anywho- this is a tricky subject, as it's hard to determine what's fatal and what's not. I think it's pretty obvious that air intake is important, as well as oil. The real trick is trying to determine the internal workings of a living vehicle without actually having seen it... Besides, I have to take some liberties, otherwise the story would be quite boring.

XD Those are my parents' cars.

*heart breaks* i have a car with a cracked motor head. We put some goop in it and it sealed the crack, but if not the car will overheat because the radiator coolant will go into the engine. The car will eat it's own coolant, which will build up in the engine eventually like sludge. But I digress... Overheating (unless it's caused by some major problem) shouldn't be a huge cause for issue, it probably wouldn't be fatal, in my opinion. The interesting thing is that unlike human organs, car parts can (for the most part) be fixed or replaced. Maybe we should point the writer in the direction of something that is irreplaceable on a car, or if something irrevocable happening to part of the car (ie - engine seizing severely), those could be potentially fatal situations. ~Sarah

Why not make the internals, where the car seats would be, vital?
The engine could be for locomotion only, like our muscles. You don't require all muscles to be able to live. Right behind the windshields (the eyes), there could be all sorts of vital stuff, like some sort of stomach, a thought processing center (brain), spleen, etc.
I'm late with this, but maybe you can consider these suggestions in another fic ^^
