For anyone who has no clue what HYPP is about, here's a look: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE-kuYDrNEUI feel sorry for the mare and the poor little foal pawing at his mama and trying to nurse. Whats the horse doing? Just kicking the baby one or something? Baby horses are spazzy....

it's a muscle disease...you could almost say it's similar to having tetanus...only it's genetic..sad thing is..people still breed these things..as you've seen in the video..you have to put them on special diets..if their muscles are over-worked i heard that can trigger the spasms too..like after a hard ride or work out..

OMG more asshats on parade... 350 lb. woman on 900 lb. horse. I'm a big gal myself, but I know better than to try to plant my lardy butt on a small, half-starved animal. It's strictly draft crosses for me, unless I can get a nice Fjord horse that I could actually mount without a block. youtube.com/watch?v=wH8VZrBzM7c

I'm short and 175 lb. and that discourages me to consider three day horse riding or more. I like horses, but I consider myself a health-risk to them.

Oh, that video was featured on the blog itself, at the bottom of the latest post.
The best part of it was the horse finally tossing that woman. I can tell from the neck and hips that they aren't feeding those animals right. Whatever food there is there is not going to the poor damned beasts.

When seeing the news linked by fugly in her blog, I am so reminded of this. Hágangur, priced stallion. A stallion who scored 9 for willingness (extra energy in riding, plus thinks independently). I did see a video where he almost bit down on the instructor in the same video. Even though the kid is the legal owner of the horse, I would not dare to do this, even for a stallion that failed the willingness check. Icelandic horses do not spook when frightened, but stop and think. No natural predator for 1000 years does that. But the hell that I will begin beliveing the propaganda about Icelandic Stallions being the gentlest creatures.

Wow..i think it is stupid that the woman is letting her kid ride like that with NO hands holding on for safety..that kid is just waving her hands all over the place... i wouldn't care what breed or sex really..a horse is a horse..and a horse is an animal...that follows it's deepest and basic instincts..
that's a really good stallion though..even though he bites..i still think it is dumb how that lady lets the kid do that..
i also think it's kinda dumb how all the commenters on there are going "wow.that kid is only 5 years old!" lol so?? All it's doing is sitting on tis' back..in a very unsafe manner as well..

youtube.com/watch?v=yrRAdVKCeGchmm a cruel form of rodeo here..even though i'm pro-rodeo..i don't approve of whipping a horse across the face.. it's funny..because i've watched some of these videos..and they all buck the same..not to mention they stand perfectly still while getting ready...tells me they might be trained on cue for this.. but anyways...look at this guy! amazing how he sticks..wow..i'd piss my pants

Eva: That guy is amazing. I saw the video before about rearing.
The woman was not the mother, but an instructor who was the rider of Hágangur (the stallion) in the last competition. She was teaching the kid what we call 'dressage'. Pretty much ride with a bit of style and show you got a balance. The most popular one is doing the tölt while holding a beer mug, and let nothing spill.
The kid did stop and say at one point she has almost fallen off, so she adjusted a bit and the kid did not fall. In the beginning, the kid was afraid of letting go, and voiced it.
As for the rodeo, I think the most cruelest thing I had seen of a rodeo was having a herd of unhandled horses put in the ring, then a team was to capture them on trained horses, bind them, put bridle, saddle and ride them in the shortest time possible. Imagine the stress.
