“Well?” Aron asked Mia, who was now a fully fletched doctor.
“The cancer has metastasized, the x-ray showed it has spread to the liver. I would want a CT scan of your head to see if it has also spread to the brain.” Mia said. “Are you still sure you don’t want Delfina to know what’s going on?”
“Yeah. You do know how to block her out, right?” Aron asked.
“Who doesn’t nowadays?” Mia said. “But still, at this advanced rate, I doubt she will even be able to help you. I’m amazed that you haven’t shown any symptoms yet. I would have expected you to be out of breath or have jaundice.”
“I will take that as a good sign.” Aron put his jacket on. “I’m going to Terra Humania in a week. I’ve heard some talking about a doctor over there who was researching some sort of cancer, and still is.”
“I doubt he can be of any use for you.” Mia frowned slightly. “Even for the funding we’ve put in research at Humania, this is still the best facility for humans, however disappointing it is compared to pre-blowup era.”
“But still, I think it would be worth it to give him whatever notes and reports you got by looking at me.” Aron said.
“Sure. I can have it ready tomorrow.” She said. “Who is that doctor anyway?”
“I don’t remember what they called him, but I am sure I can get a name by asking around.” Aron said.
“When you get back, I want that CT scan.” Mia said.
“Of course.” Aron said, knowing fully that he wouldn’t return.
Aron sighed and waited at the crossroads. He had chosen them that if he was having any doubts, it would surely surface there where he had almost gotten captured by Egill. And now he was striking a deal with him, if he would show up.
“Sorry about the delay.” A female voice sounded as a young fit Ford Taurus appeared. “I had to make sure that this wasn’t sort of a trap.”
“It isn’t.” Aron said and let his defenses drop, allowing her to probe to see if he was telling the truth. “I was expecting a male.” He said.
“After having separate personalities for over thousand years, you develop differently.” The Taurus said. “The one you encountered was someone who tried to bend the rules, but forgot that sometimes, bending the rules means it just snaps back in your face. He was more or less the most extreme of us.” She was trying to put him at ease.
“Alright.” Aron said. “It doesn’t matter that much.”
“Good. I get the feeling you want to know what the procedure to this kind of deal is.” She said. “I don’t care much for money, but the currency I mostly deal with is information. You already got some valuable information to offer.”
“Yeah, no Egill aspect has possessed a human before. All humans coming here are told about you and what you can do.” Aron answered. “But what I am going to ask you of is much more valuable than that.”
“And if you don’t have enough to offer, I will not give you that.” The Taurus said. “So, tell me what you want from me.”
“What I want from Egill is to leave anyone from my family line alone. All of my descendants shall be considered neutral, not a foe or a friend. No matter what does happen to them, Egill is not to attempt to possess them, or deal with them unprovoked. When I say Egill, I mean all of you.”
“You’re right. That is quite expensive deal. It’s your three years old grandchildren that are a mix of a human and a car. What is it that you’re going to offer me in exchange of that?” The Taurus asked.
“Access to Terra Humania, location of a Cold Iron vein, a Cold Iron dagger, and me.” Aron said.
“That’s quite a lot.” The Taurus said. “But it does cover your request. But still, how will you get me, or Egill, over to the other world?”
“I’ll carry few coins with me. I guess you got some method of concealing them. Once I’m over there, I’ll have one of the coins put on me.” Aron said. “I will be going in five days. I’ll be able to meet you again here in three.”
“We’ll finalize the deal then.” The Taurus said.
Aron had been going around the remains of Los Angeles. Even for the disaster, and one big earthquake, it was one of the few cities in America left in sort of good shape. He had asked few questions, gone around and be a show. But in his backpack was all the notes he had, along with few silver coins. He had managed to evade Delfina and her probing for the time, so she didn’t know what he was about to do. He was in a secluded area, where he would not draw attention to himself.
He looked at the arm braces he had been given. It was quite tight to the skin, but faint aura of magic in the Rose Gold portion of it prevented pain and injuries. He snapped one of the braces on, then took out a small pouch. Reaching in, he simply touched one of the coins.
“So that’s how it feels like.” The presence said with Aron’s body. It quickly put the coin in a secure lock in the brace Aron had put on him. It noticed few gaps in the memory of the host, but discarded that. Several of those willing to give up had another user simply deleting some memories and information that they didn’t want Egill to know. It knew though it had to find another body soon, mainly of a healthy, young, and preferably a wealthy individual. This was a whole new world, and it needed to gain some strong foothold in it.
