"We didn't have any up in Newfoundland." Dawn shook her head. "Mostly mom-and-pop places, unless you went to Dairy Queen and they just did soft-serve. I've almost forgotten what that tastes like."
Stokes also began to purr as he alternated his nibbles with cat-licks. The cover of darkness afforded them more privacy.
"It's getting dark." Kendall said. "Your Mom wants you two in bed at a reasonable time."

The twins side and headed back over to the tent. They wanted to stay outside just a little longer, but they knew that their father was right.
Both boys entered the tent and went over to their mother, who was helping Artemis get to sleep, and lay down.
*****
"Dairy Queen was good for a quick treat," shrugged Delfina, eating a spoonful of ice cream, "but I didn't frequent it as much. I guess we all have different tastes."
It was getting dark and all she could see were the dark silhouettes of the ships out on the water of the cove.
*****
Freda did not protest Stokes' nibbles and licks, she welcomed them. Her eyes were closed and she purred in contentment.

Randy and Erika finally moved off to a much more private place later on. There, Erika finally collected her "big prize".
Next morning dawned bright and clear, and the powerboat couple were still asleep after the previous night. Erika's eyes opened into slits as the sun fell on them, then she stirred. Randy's port aerial was still curled around her. They were nestled beside Marty again, and all of them in turn next to Freda. Once again, she and Randy had experienced this sharing of minds and senses, and it had been staggering. It was also something that made them wonder if they should ask an expert about it.
Bree woke up, smelling the linseed meal cooking. Greg would flavor it with apples and cinnamon and add supplements before bringing it to her, and the near-anorexic Juno also got that treatment. Working aircraft in the north had to consume it in addition to their fuel to stay warm and maintain their energy reserves. It was also good invalid food if one wasn't taking anything else in. Her parents and sister were bringing in fuel mix shakes for everyone else.
"Good morning." she nuzzled Shale.

Freda was still asleep, not having woken up yet.
*****
Shale roused from being nuzzled and looked at Bree with a sleepy smile, "G'morning."
*****
In her tent, Ebony was sleeping deeply, having stayed up late last night to finish the portrait. The twins and Artemis were nestled against her under the nightcovers.
*****
Delfina was also inside her tent resting and digesting the meat and the ice cream she had last night.

Bree gave Shale a peck on the cheek, as if they'd already been married for years. "All ready for today, hon?"
Kendall was sleeping across the doorway. Nobody would get near his family without getting by him.
Dawn was up and about, helping to rustle the morning meal together. It would be a light affair, as everyone had eaten quite well last night.
Erika took a deep breath and enjoyed the morning while Randy still slept against her side. He had more than earned his rest. More and more, he was feeling like a mate rather than a lover. A process of mutual exploration and intimate knowledge that would have taken months or years to accumulate in the usual way was bearing its rich fruits in a span of days, and it had happened when she offered her proverbial heart along with the rest of herself. Their bond had become a never-ending thirst for one another.

"Yeah, but I'm nervous," admitted Shale, "But, I think I'm just getting the pre-wedding jitters."

Ebony woke up slightly and looked tiredly at Kendall. Then she fell back asleep, still tired out from last night.

Delfina awoke when Shadow licked her cheek.

"The chaplain will be over at 1300, and he'll talk us through it before it begins." Bree began the process of standing up. She felt much better this morning, though not quite back to working form. "And it looks like Mom and Papa ordered in breakfast again." She noted the shake barrel that had been left by Shale's side. "But it's mash for me again."
Greg came up with rubber skips of steaming linseed mash, and set it before her and Juno. She tipped her nose in thanks and began to eat. It was good enough, and necessary, but Bree was starting to get to the point that she would kill for a chocolate mix shake.
Kendall was already awake, but not yet inclined to move. Ebony had earned the right to sleep in. If the kids should wake before she did, he'd see to them.
Dawn started beating the triangle to signal the start of another breakfast.

"Oh, good," nodded Shale. That made him feel better, at least for a little bit.
*****
The twins were just beginning to wake up, though their sister still slept nestled beside their mother's fender.
*****
Shadow lifted her head at the sound of the triangle, recognizing the significance, but she glanced at her mistress, who was still asleep beside her.

"But right now, I've got this craving for chocolate." Bree admitted. "And I can't have any 'till I'm off the medication."
The helos, being early risers by inclination, were sauntering about the open areas of the waterfront and shaking themselves off. Early-morning vapours came out of their noses. Most of the civilians would go off to the local airport for a wax and detailing before the ceremony. Bree and Juno would be groomed by the NCO's, and since Shale wasn't leaving Bree's side, they'd probably do him as well.
Kendall opened one eye as he noted the twins waking. Somewhere outside, a dog barked.
Dawn was mixing waffle batter in the kitchen, preparing to pour it into molds.
For Dagmar, the breakwater that separated Vilinsky's private basin from the ocean was as far as the coach would permit her to go by herself. She looked over the floating, teak-surfaced deck in the fashion of a child peering over a picket fence, wearing a fitted sheet to protect her paint job from dock bumps and the sun's UV rays. Her eyes were fixed on a speck in the distance, steadily growing larger and more detailed as it came to pass before her sponsor's residence. Her insides leapt a little as she saw the USCG racing stripe and the radar arch that identified the ensign she'd seen yesterday. For all she knew, he might not care for "cats", but if eye candy was all Dagmar was going to get, she would content herself with that.
Slowly, she followed the ensign along the confines of the breakwater, taking in his clean lines and clear blue eyes until he passed beyond the escarpment of land to the left and disappeared from view. Sighing, Dagmar remained at the structure's end until Malia, one of a pair of Boston Whalers employed at the mansion's dock, came to fetch her.
"Dagmar," Malia addressed her, "Mr. Vilinsky requests your company at dockside, where he's having breakfast." She motioned with her head, back towards the house.

Kendall lifted himself up, clearing the doorway to the tent. "You awake, boys? You know what day it is today. Let's get cleaned up and ready."
That afternoon, a throng of cars, helicopters, humans and boats assembled around the open grass field adjacent to the Coast Guard station, abutting the waterfront. The guests and the crowd of well-wishers spilled out onto Wharf St., the boardwalk and the public beach as Bree and Shale and the rest of the wedding party went off from the heliport to the public green several hundred yards away. The humans gravitated towards the shade of the bandstand as the chaplain assumed his place and opened the ceremony with the usual homilies about the importance and solemnity of marriage vows before calling the couple forward. Finally, it was time.
Bree and Shale didn't shine so much as they gleamed, from a double coat of polish buffed to a mirror-like finish. Each wore a rosette, one of black velvet with a white center for the groom, and a white one with an organdy fall and a center corsage for the bride. The chaplain kept to the nondenominational version of the vows, which were relatively straightforward, and the entire procedure took about twenty minutes from the summoning of the couple to the front to the final pronouncement: "I now pronounce you ... husband and wife." Helicopters didn't customarily kiss, that was a human innovation. There was, however, a long nuzzle. And it was said that the time to go through the receiving line was longer than the ceremony itself.
By the time all the photos were taken, it was getting into early evening. Rather than a reception, there was a picnic at the green, with everyone bringing something. Aside from a slightly-too-happy bystander almost falling off the pier, there were no hangups. As darkness fell, the tired but happy newlyweds retired to the privacy of the hangar, where they would be left alone, but their degree of exhaustion suggested that there would probably be not much going on there aside from sleeping.
Carl was on the cell phone again, with Hans and "Gonzo". He wasn't particularly happy with them right now, and wasn't shy about saying so. The middle-aged Mercedes winced as the ship's implied threats came out loud and clear. "Yes sir, we've got it all lined up. It'll look like a perfectly natural occurrence."
"It better." the ship growled. "Because if the cops get on your tails, don't look to my concern to bail you out."
"Don't worry, sir." Hans replied, sweating a little. "It'll be done." As soon as Gonzo stops being such a reckless slob...

Delfina was walking back to Freda with a couple of friends, after bidding the newly-weds goodnight, ready to go back to Phantom Cove to sleep off all that food, which was specifically cooked for the her kind, that she had eaten at the wedding. She felt so full.
She and the others were helping Raven, who had maybe drank too much of the wine that the humans had brought for themselves to consume, and the alien was a little bit loopy at the moment.
(((((OOC: Poor Raven's drunk! XD)))))
*****
Freda had pulled up to the dock to take the humans back to the cove. She had enjoyed herself too and was feeling very contented and happy. The wedding wasn't the only cause of her happiness. She had heard that her folks were coming to visit her and that they would be there in a few days. Her father wasn't that far, currently based at Oawu, Hawaii. Her mother was down in Mexican waters doing some coastal research. It wouldn't take them long to get to California.
*****
Ebony was gathering up her children, seeing as they were practically falling asleep, and was preparing to leave herself with her family. She was glad that Shale and Bree liked the portrait that she had did for them on such short notice and had given all her waking hours to work on. Now she was extremely exhausted and only wanted to return to her tent at Phantom Cove.

"That was wine?" Dawn rolled her eyes as she helped with Raven. "More like Mad Dog 20-20. Brad always did make his stuff too strong, sometimes I think he must've been a wino in a previous life."
Stokes offered to "walk" Freda back to the cove, and waited while she took on her friends.
"I think your portrait definitely stole the show, Ebony." Kendall remarked as he helped shepherd the sleepy children back to the camp. "Bree's parents thought it was the greatest thing they'd ever seen."

"Guess Raven drank too much of the stuff," sighed Delfina, heading over to the ramp that Freda had stretched out for them, "Our alien boy took on more than he can handle and his systems simply can't tolerate it. God, he's gonna have a big hangover tomorrow."
*****
Freda smiled at Stokes as she waited for the humans to board her, some of them apparently having partied a little too hard at the reception.
*****
"I'm glad they liked it," said Ebony, "I've worked so hard on it during the whole of yesterday afternoon and late into the night. I"ve put alot of effort into it and my antenna is sore."

"I'll remember to keep some ice aside for him." Dawn took Raven's other arm as they brought him up the ramp. She grabbed an empty bucket on the way up, just in case a certain someone got sick.
Stokes politely averted his gaze and stifled a snicker as he watched the intoxicated being taken aboard by their friends.
"I'll put a heat wrap on it for you." Kendall added a nuzzle. "C'mon kids, let's get back to camp."
