"Heh, once he gets into his artistic element, he wouldn't care about the price on your hood," said Ebony, "It's his passion."
The Viper shifted into gear, "I'll take you to him, alright? His shop is pretty well hidden and it's hard for the average car to get there unless they're given specific directions. I know where it is."

"All right...as long as we aren't tailed," Glimmer replied quietly, "It looks like we'll get all of Nitropolis' police force on us if we're spotted."
Wot're ya gonna do after this, Jensie?
This sounds crazy...but the first idea I had in mind was to hide out as one of Kamui's team members.
Whoa, ye really are crazy. Oi like that...

"I'll get some of my people to distract them," said Ebony, "At least long enough for us to get to Rico's without being spotted."
She signaled to three tuners, who came over, "Alright, I need you three to do me a huge favor. Distract the cops for us. We need to get to Rico's, but we don't wanna be seen. Got it?"
"Got it," the three tuners, a Pontiac Sunfire, a Ford Mustang mix, and a Chevrolet Corvette, all nodded in confirmation and took off down separate tunnels to the surface.
"They'll keep those cops occupied for us," Ebony said to Kamui and Glimmer.
"I hope so," said Kamui.
"Trust them," said Ebony, "They know what to do. Now come on, let's go."
Kamui looked back at Glimmer then shifted into gear to follow the Viper into another tunnel, opposite of what the three tuners took.

Glimmer gulped and followed them into the tunnel. His trials were still far from over, and they certainly would not be over when he would see the literal light at the end of this tunnel.

"HQ, we have a number of wanted parties, code 6 on Aviator Avenue," came the chatter over Detective Kim's radio, "uh...we need to verify identity, are they the ones from earlier?" "Hang on...we'll try to send details shortly," came another reply.
The 300ZX sighed frustratedly. He did not believe that the three most wanted tuners of the Nitropolis underground would be so obvious if they left. Unfortunately, the chase would leave him with insufficient carpower to scope out the ones he wanted. He turned to his partner, the Carbon Motors E7 who hesitated at the smokescreen now temporarily assigned to him.
"Michaels?" "Yeah..." the E7 replied. "I need you to stake out this address," Kim replied, passing the Gainsboro address of the drop-off point but not the bounty details, "I got a source that tells me that they may be headed here." "Sure, no prob," Michaels replied, before revving off.
"Rookies..." Kim muttered, "Unpredictable...but they'll do anything for loyalty."

The Sunfire, Mustang, and the Corvette came out of their tunnels and up to the surface, then took off down different streets. All three intending to distract the cops their own way. But first, they had to find them.
*****
Ebony led the group down their own separate tunnel toward Ricardo's body shop. She was quiet for the duration of the drive, even as they came out into the open in the more abandoned part of the city. The Viper gestured to her companions to quietly follow her down an alleyway strewn with litter, knowing that they couldn't just reveal themselves on the larger streets. It was safer in the alleys, which offered plenty of opportunities to hide from the cops.
She sniffed the air and knew that they were close to the shop when she came upon an iron door with rivets around the edges. "This is it," she whispered, as she knocked out a rhythm on the door, which caused a tiny window to slide open and gray eyes to peer out at them.
"Password please," said a distinctly Spanish-accented voice in English.
"Black Viper," said Ebony, then said the next phrase in Spanish, "Ricardo, debéis me un favor."
The window slid shut as a series of locks were heard from inside unlocking and the big iron door slowly opened to reveal the owner of those gray to be a Dodge Stealth with a wicked flame job. "Entre usted. Traer su amigos contigo. Hacer no holgazanear."
"What did he say?" asked Kamui, who did not understand a single word of Spanish, except for maybe a few interesting curse words that she would hear from her boss every so often.
"He's inviting us in," Ebony gestured to Kamui and Glimmer to follow her inside, "Make it quick, though. He needs to close the door."
Kamui nodded and hurried inside, nodding respectfully to Ricardo as she passed him.

As they raced through the alleyways, Glimmer evading dumpsters with flawed grace, he wondered why the tuners could not have spent the time to try to improve their sections above ground, as discriminated makes did back in the decades before. Almost immediately, El Bandito came up with a reply.
It's noot their make... it's their choice of loifstyle...the powers hoier up 'ere doon' loike it one bit, think they're oonly oot for racing and droogs. Iroonically, tha's all they leeve behoind wun they finish their "urban renooal."
I...I didn't know that...
O'course ya din't, laddy, yoo thoot the same thin' back when yoo were all aboot winnin'.
But now that I've lost...
And yer mind could still use a little more openin'. It's never too late.
It wasn't long before they reached the tattoo parlor. It was almost ironic that the area reminded Glimmer of some kind of underground secret society. He hesitated at the sight of Ricardo...but then again, with what he'd seen recently, Ricardo wasn't that much more extreme.
Curiously enough, Glimmer could understand Spanish...his Managers had educated him in the tongue along with other major world languages during his training. And 'servicing' Hispanic clients for Slick-19 had kept it from going rusty compared to the other languages.
Photos of some of Ricardo's more (in?)famous works were posted on the dark walls. It was very hard to tell what the original makes of some of those clients were...some even appeared to be deliberately 'combined' from more than one make. It was fitting, then, that Glimmer was quick to make up his mind as to what he wanted to "disguise" himself as.
Yoo're messin' aroond with me. No way yoo'd wanna be that, ever!
Like you said...it's never too late to open my mind...

Officer Michaels was halfway to Gainsboro when he heard the roar of engines racing toward him...as well as the initial police reports. He was about to cross a four-lane intersection when one of the tuners blazed past him, startling him enough for his engine to stall temporarily.
"Dang it...Hey...hey! Get back here!" the E7 rookie yelped as he restarted his engine and went after the Corvette. "Pull over!"

After the place was sealed up again, Ricardo returned to speaking English. "So, what is this favor you're asking of me?"
"Well, Rico," said Ebony and pointed to Glimmer, "I want you to help my friend here disguise himself. He needs to look entirely different from his true appearance."
The Stealth looked at Glimmer, accessing what kind of body work that might need to be done. He asked Glimmer, "What did you have in mind, Amigo?"
*****
The Corvette, named Devil for his personality and cunning with dealing with the authorities, heard the sirens and glanced behind him, seeing the rookie cop chasing him. He laughed outloud and shouted back, "Try and catch me first, Copper!"
Devil sped off down the streets, intending to lead the young cop on a crazy and wild chase through the city.

"I'd like..." Glimmer gulped, "...to be a Shooter. Not 'too' outlandish, but still very 'distinct." He braced internally for what Kamui might think of such a decision.
===
Officer Michaels winced at 'Devil's' cruel laugh as he pulled up the Corvette's info on his info-visor...one which was quickly soiled after a quick trip through a dirty puddle. "Ugh...dammit!"
The E7 had a hard time keeping up with the Corvette, slowly starting to lose him after a few miles. Worse, it seemed most of the backup were preoccupied with the other two.
I've burned more donuts in a day than I've eaten in a year...I'll catch him...

Hearing this, Kamui blinked in surprise and looked at Glimmer. "A Shooter? Are you sure?"
*****
Devil laughed again and quickly maneuvered through the city streets, gradually losing the cop.

"I wish I were more sure than I am now..." Glimmer replied, "But it's the only thing I can think of that won't easily give me away. They still think I'm obsessed with model-purity...but not so much, anymore."
===
Michaels skidded to a halt kicked a trash-can with his rear-right tire in frustration as Devil finally eluded his sight near a corner. "DAMMIT!" he shouted, his frustration laced with a bit of despair.
"3-2-5 to all units, you are authorized to use all non-lethal force, chase escalating to Condition 3," came a dispatch...and Michaels recognized the voice as Kim. "Michaels, get your bumper to Gainsboro ASAP. They're trying to distract us from the stakeout."

"Well," Kamui said, "If you really want to go through with this, I can't stop you. But because neither individual Shooter looks the same, I can suggest the appropriate markings and paintjob for you if you'd like."
Ricardo took out a sketchbook and a pencil, "A Shooter appearance is a bit tricky, but I believe I can do it. Just let me sketch out your true appearance and then you can tell me where to place the markings and any other body modifications that you want. I do this so I can have a reference."
The Stealth began sketching out Glimmer's current appearance.
"This may take awhile," said Ebony, settling back on her tires, "But at least we're safe from the authorities for now. They won't find us here. This place is completely sealed off and keeps sound from escaping to the outside."
It seemed that the Viper knew this place pretty well.
"How long will this take?" asked Kamui.
"Depends on whatever I have available to work with," replied Ricardo, glancing up from time to time to check on the angle, "Might be a couple of hours at the most."
"Oh," nodded the Shooter as she began tocall up the appropriate markings from her memory that she thought would be best suited for Glimmer.
*****
Devil laughed one more time and sped away to rejoin his companions, hoping it would by Ebony and her friends enough time to avoid detection and do what they went to do.

Glimmer gulped, briefly hoping the 'makeover' wouldn't be too painful...at least compared to his weekly 'tuneups' back before he was 'replaced.' THEN he thought about the pain he felt getting 'replaced...' and figured it couldn't be much worse, even if it was literally a backroom artist doing the work.
Don' worry, buddeh. I'll hold yer toires down if ye start squealin! El Bandito added with an almost sadistic measure of glee.
"I was thinking...a nice shade of green," he stammered, briefly remembering his pre-DTM appearance as a green CLK 200...
====
As Michaels sulked and started turning back toward Gainsboro, Kim started accelerating from a nearby intersection. The streets in this part of the city at sunrise were still fairly empty, yet Kim definitely felt like taking chances. He blasted down a street that he tracked was running parallel to the one Devil was on...and one that converged a few miles down.
He kept his sirens off to avoid being spotted as he flickered his glance to the side every time he passed an intersection. If the Corvette kept his course...the Z32 could set up for one helluvan ambush.

"I have a set of different shades of green that you could choose from," said Ricardo as he was finishing up the touches of the sketch, checked the angle again, and looked up at his new client. He showed the sketch to Glimmer, "Now, I want you to take a look at this and decide on the type of markings you want and where you want me to put them."
He glanced at Kamui, "And how about you help him, Chika? You know about the history and placement of Shooter markings better than I do. I'll just paint them on."
"Sure thing," nodded Kamui.
Ebony went to check the available colors of paint in the stockroom and bring some cans of green paint out.
*****
Devil was keeping on the straight road, thinking that he had managed to lose that young cop back there and was now heading for a turn in the road that would loop him around the city and back to where his two companions were waiting to rejoin with him, having done their share of distraction too.
Even though Michaels had given up the chase, Devil was unaware that Kim had taken up the chase as he was hearing no sirens behind him.

"I'm thinking of thin, flowing stripes across the hood and sides, three each, crisscrossing," Glimmer replied in deep thought as he stared at the sketch, "on the left side they'll be black and gold...on the right it'll be chrome silver. Kamui...what do you think?"
===
Kim found himself dangerously close to Devil as the two roads converged...and he took the opportunity to lunge straight into the Corvette's rear wheels for a swift PIT.

"That actually doesn't sound too bad," said Kamui, "I'd say go for it. And also you might want to have symbols that are slightly similar to the ones I have on my hood. Then you'd be more like a genuine Shooter than a wannabe."
*****
Devil was taken completely by surprise as he was pitted by Kim, of whom he did not know was behind him, but didn't really have time to think before he swerved to try to keep a tread-grip on the street and running into a light pole. The Corvette was dazed for a moment and his front end hurt.
But he realized that he had been caught.
