"Yeah, they're here here too," said Ebony, "That's Robin and Jordan. And I think that's Rosemary. I haven't met her personally, but I heard from Delfina that she's nice."
Just at this moment, Kestrel and Falcon, upon seeing all the gay festivities all strewn about, darted forward with laughter. Only Artemis stayed near her mother.
"Kestrel! Falcon! Come back here!" Ebony called after her sons, afraid that they might accidentally hurt themselves if they weren't careful.

Freda dropped anchor at a suitable spot to watch the race.
Delfina, at the research vessel's prow, looked up at the HH-65 circling overhead. "That's Ruby," she said, "She's one of Bree's old classmates."

Elsie came out to check out the new kids. Two of the boys looked to be about her age. "Hi."
Robin, getting familiar scents, glanced about to find the source. "Ebony!"
Dawn shook her head at the numbers of helos in the sky. "She's sure got a job ahead of her, trying to keep them apart."
Bree watched the proceedings from just outside the hangar. She could stand up and move around for longer intervals, but still wore a white fly sheet to protect her still-recovering system from the heat of the day. She looked up at Juno playing shepherd to the media and race team 'craft and couldn't help a guilty feeling inside. The attendants had fed Juno a good breakfast - which she would inevitably burn off. The woman's metabolic issues had almost led to a medical discharge at one point. She turned to Shale, sighing. "I still feel kind of guilty about asking Juno out here, but she's the only one I can really trust."

(((((OOC: Oh, sorry.)))))
Kestrel and Falcon stopped when they saw Elsie. "Hi," they returned the greeting.
"Hi, Robin," Ebony said as she came up, followed closely by her daughter.
*****
"I wish her the best of luck, then," said Delfina, "She might need it."
*****
"Give her some credit," Shale replied, "Be glad she's doing this for you."

"I know, Shale." Bree nuzzled her intended. She hoped that Juno's boyfriend wasn't going to resent this interruption of her leave time, which her insanely high work drive wouldn't allow her to refuse. This was the woman that the CG had sent to a spa for R & R, but who wouldn't let the staff touch her, wouldn't eat, and came back worse than before. Only a steady boyfriend seemed to make a difference. "I really ought to get her something in appreciation."
"It certainly takes a lot of work and cooperation to put this thing together." Dawn lowered her eyes to the volunteers policing the water.
Elsie looked to the boys and to Ebony. "Is she your mom?"
"Hey, Ebony." Robin called back. "Have you met my sister-in-law?"

"Maybe something that she would like," suggested Shale.
*****
"It's a big responsibility," said Delfina as Nerisa anchored next to Freda, "They don't want anything to go wrong or something bad to happen."
*****
The twins nodded, "Yep, she's our mom."
"Not personally," replied Ebony.

"Something she and Rémi could do together." Bree glanced back towards Juno's man, who was watching from the ground.
"There's Erika." Dawn pointed as the amateurs came into the staging area. Erika had a number 3 stencilled onto her hull in temporary paint. "She won't be going 'til the third race, though."
"Cool!" Elsie said. "She came up to Gran-gran's house one day. My name's Elsie."
Robin waved a blade to bring Rosemary over. "Ebony, Kendall, meet Rosemary, my sis-in-law."
The elegant Bell 430 smiled warmly. "Pleased to meet you both."

"Something they both like?" asked Shale, taking a glance at the other Rémi as well.
He could also see that Taranee, having arrived with his mother last night, was acting like her rebellious, teenage self and avoiding everybody. The girl would give anyone a glare if they got too close to her.
*****
"Why?" asked Delfina, "How many of these races do they hold?"
*****
Kestrel grinned, "I'm Kestrel. And this is my twin brother, Falcon. We also have a little sister named Artemis, but she's with our Mom and Dad."
"Nice to meet you too, Rosemary," said Ebony.

"That's what I need to find out. I admit I don't know Rémi very well." Bree turned to look him over further. The medevac helo came across like a sweet, tolerant soul - an entirely good thing as far as Juno was concerned. She moved back a foot or two as Taranee came across, blocking her view without so much as a how-do-you-do. No... don't kill the future sister-in-law. That wouldn't be good...
"Five races for the amateurs." Dawn looked in the program book some volunteer had handed her. "Which race depends on size, hull and engine. Not as strict as the pros, but obviously they don't want to overmatch the competitors."
"You look awesome like your mom." Elsie said.
"I've heard good things about you from Robin." Rosemary answered. Robin just blushed and smiled. "So are you also here for Bree's wedding?"
Kendall was looking Rosemary over, with more than just social interest. His company was a huge affair now, in contrast to the modest lifestyle that the Masseys kept to in Colorado. They could now justify keeping a helo on staff for executive transport. If this young woman had had her fill of nouveau-riche snots in Aspen (one good reason why he avoided the place), he might have an offer for her.

Shale sighed as he looked at his sister with a frown. Taranee was ignoring him, like she usually would anytime she was with him.
*****
"I'm new to this," said Raven as he joined them, "Why do they race?"
*****
"We don't have those spikes like Mom does," Falcon pointed out.
Ebony nodded, "Cool. And yeah, we're here for Bree and Shale's wedding."
She noticed Kendall's preoccupation and nudged him with a tire.

"Oh, sorry." Kendall laughed. "Forgot my manners. We're looking for a little something to get for their wedding present. What would they really like?"
"Well, we're getting a giant quilt for them, to cuddle up in." Robin said, "Bree tends to be practical, but Shale's got this romantic soul that he likes to pretend stays hidden, though he's not fooling anyone now."
"I like her paint the best." Elsie said. "She's got neat graphics."
Bree figured it was up to her to speak up, and cleared her throat.

Ebony chuckled. "Like Ken is sometimes." She thought for a moment, "Oh, you know what? I can paint something for them. How does that sound?"
*****
"Mom is real artistic," said Kestrel, "She's done all those graphics she wears herself."
Artemis finally decided to leave her mother's side and wandered over to where her older half-brothers were with Elsie.

Taranee turned blue eyes toward Bree.

"That would be wonderful." Robin agreed. She turned to Rosemary. "Ebony's a terrific artist. You should see her drawings."
"Wow." Elsie was impressed. She noticed Artemis coming over. "Is she your sister?"
"Taranee?" Bree inquired. "You've been here since last night and you haven't even said hello to your own brother."
Dagmar Linskold was racing for the TerraSearch team, representing an Internet giant that was the Carsverse equivalent of Google. She was a turbine catamaran type known as a "skater", from a family line in which multihulls turned up with regularity, though the better number of her family were vee hulls. The pro races weren't until the afternoon, so she stole some time away from her team's dock to check out the course and see if the performance of the amateurs could give her valuable information on the conditions here. For a moment or two, however, she studied the form of the cute Coast Guard ensign who was keeping the way clear of spectators, and wondered if it would be worth the effort to get his name.
"Checking out the local guys, Dags?" a voice came up beside her.
"Shut up, Danny." Dagmar responded with a half-hearted stern-kick. Danny Wake was competing in a different division, but that didn't stop him from running off at the mouth as well as the engine. "Isn't your bad karaoke enough torture for the rest of us?"
"But I thought you loved "Close to You". Danny cracked.
"If they put that song in a concrete vault and dropped it into the Marainas Trench, maybe." Dagmar snorted. "It's already bad enough when pros sing it, thank you very much." She turned her attention back to the course, taking in its turns and potential hazards. Hmmm... bit of a cross-current at the third bouy. Gotta hit that one the right way or it's nose over *rse for me. And the tide's going out, so I'll have to oversteer against the ebb flow. Yecch. In addition to the sights, the scents of multitudes hit her nose, every conceivable type of vehicle was here. It was then that one scent made her nostrils flare, before she even consciously knew it was a scent.
The amateurs were going by, pacing out the course on their own before the actual races. Dagmar raised her bow as she saw three other turbine racers in this pack. All were vee hulls. One female, painted in old-style "dazzle" camouflage patterns, albeit in more fashionable colors. Their numbers were spray-stenciled in temporary flourescent paint on their sides. Dagmar had seen many such. They were essentially the warm-up for the main event.
But, for some reason, the girl continued to keep her attention...
"Whatsamatter, kit got your tongue?" Danny snerked.
"Shaddup, Danny!"
"First race should be starting soon." Dawn said. "Just a short one."

"And I bet I could whip something real easily too," smirked Ebony, "All I need is inspiration and the piece would be done in several hours time or even by tomorrow if I don't have any interruptions."
*****
Kestrel looked over at his sister. He nodded, "Yeah, this is Artemis."
*****
"I'd like to see the outcome," said Raven, "And see who wins."
"We're gonna be cheering on Erika," said Delfina.

"I know they'd love that." Robin nodded. "I say go for it!"
"Hi, Artemis." Elsie smiled. "My name's Elsie."
"She's in the third amateur race, Raven." Dawn said. "The first two are for smaller boats."
Bree hmm'd at Taranee's sullen silence. Shale hadn't been kidding about his little sister's attitude problem.

"I just need to get some art supplies," said Ebony, "And a quiet place to work."
She paused for a moment and glanced around, "Where are the kids?"
*****
"Hi..." Artemis said shyly, tilting her hood a bit and looked at Elsie curiously.
*****
"Oh," Raven said sheepishly, "I didn't know that."
*****
Taranee only turned away, having very little interest in the goings on with the boat races.
Shale came up to Bree and watched his sister retreat. He turned to Bree, "See? It's hard to get close to her. She's like a rock and it seems like she's far away from the world."
