Ebony chuckles as she gets up and follows them out to watch them and make sure they don't hurt themselves playing.
*****
"Nope," Delfina agreed between a mouthful of pancake, "Same goes for you too."
*****
"I could mention that to them and see how they feel about that," said Freda, "but I'm pretty sure they'll agree."

"Don't think they've ever seen a live sea creature before." Kendall went out along with Ebony.
"Yeah." Dawn reached down to scratch Dude's ears as the smalltrack kit came around looking for attention, and noted Ebony's children following a small crab. "Careful now, crabs can pinch."
"I always liked working with kids." Stokes nodded. "Once in a while I help out with the Sea Scouts."

"No, all they've seen are the birds," said Ebony, keeping an eye on the kids as they followed the crab.
The twins looked up at Dawn as she warned them about how the crabs will pinch them if they weren't careful.
Artemis tended to stay near her mother.
*****
"That's good," said Freda.

Kendall caught up with the children. "You guys wouldn't like it if a big, giant something was chasing you, so let him have his space."
"He's just a little guy, and he's scared." Dawn added.
Randy, Erika and Marty came in closer to the shore to check out the new arrivals.
"They're already after the critters." Stokes chuckled.

"You'll have to listen to them," Ebony told her children.
Kestrel and Falcon nodded slowly and left the crab alone.
"Good boys," smiled Ebony.
*****
"They're curious little guys, aren't they?" chuckled Freda.

"Like me when I was their age." Stokes nodded. "I was into all kinds of mischief, and I was pretty wild as a teenager too. I think Mom was kind of relieved when I went into the Coast Guard, that they'd put some discipline into me." He rolled his eyes. "And they did."
"Listen to your mama, she knows." Kendall nuzzled Ebony again.
"The boats are over there if you want to meet them." Dawn told the children, to distract them from the crab.

"Heh, I was like that too," smiled Freda.
*****
Kestrel and Falcon looked toward the shore and saw the boats. "Oh cool."
"Wanna go meet them?" Ebony asked her kids.
"Yeah!" the twins nodded to that question.
"Okay, be careful and don't get too much sand in your tires," said Ebony, even as the two scampered off to see the boats.

"Guess that's a little more we have in common, then." Stokes gave Freda a gentle nibble.
Randy smiled as he saw the kids come up. "Hey,"
"Your kids, Ebony?" Erika asked.

"Guess there is," said Freda, nibbling Stokes in return.
*****
"Yeah, the boys are my twins, Kestrel and Falcon," said Ebony, rolling slowly up, and the pointed to Artemis, who had stayed back away from the water, "And the shy girl is my daughter, Artemis."
"Hi," said Kestrel and Falcon.

Stokes continued to nibble at Freda in an affectionate grooming gesture, not too hot for the kids.
"Hi guys." Randy was as close to shore as he could get without beaching himself. "What do you think of the beach, now?"
Erika smiled to the shy little girl. "So you're Artemis? That's such a pretty name."

Freda let Stokes nibble at her, though she wouldn't let it get too far because there were children present.
"The beach is cool!" said Kestrel in answer to Randy's question.
"It's awesome!" added Falcon.
Artemis looked up at Erika and nodded, "Mom gave me that name when I was born, she told me. Said it had a special meaning."

Stokes kept it friendly and G-rated as he continued to nibble.
"The ocean is an awesome place." Randy nodded. "But cars have to be extra careful around it. Don't go wading too deep and rinse off real good afterwards. You don't want to get rust and upset your mom."
Dawn caught up with Ebony and the children at the water's edge. "Artemis is the name of a moon goddess in our Greek mythology. She would hunt and run with her hounds at night. "
"Hounds?" Erika cocked her head.
"Dogs." Dawn explained. There were one or two herding-dog types that had been brought along to the camp. "But different from the types you've seen. Very tall and lanky. Our boss-lady at the Mountain has a pack of them."
"Did you ever see those dogs?" Erika asked Artemis, in an effort to draw the child out.

"Mom's warned us of that lots of time," said Kestrel, "We don't wanna worry her. She gets sick if she worries too much."
*****
"I've been reading up on alot of human mythology," admitted Ebony.
Delfina walked up finally, finished with her breakfast, "Most of the time, we couldn't get you out of our library."
Ebony chuckled sheepishly.
*****
Artemis didn't answer for a moment, then nodded slowly, "They're big."

"And it's good that you think of your mom." Randy nodded. "I wish I thought a little more of my mom when I was growing up, and listened to her more, but I was a bit too wild and crazy."
"And they're very pretty dogs, aren't they?" Dawn stooped to Artemis' eye level. "Now this lady here is Erika." she indicated the go-fast girl. "And that's Randy over there, and the submarine is Marty."
Kendall came up beside Ebony again. His eyes were on the ships further out in the cove. "Those two are definitely an item."

"But she does play with us," said Falcon, "She's a fun mom."
*****
"Hi..." Artemis said shyly to the three boats.
*****
"The research vessel is Freda Nightshade," said Delfina, who was next to the couple, "and the cutter is Lieutenant Benjamin Stokes. We're beginning to see them together more often. Stokes has been using his times off to be with Freda."
