Bill was looking a little moist-eyed himself. He had not really been consciously aware of what they had allowed the family dynamic to get into all these years. "I don't want to play them off as anything." He hung his front, looking tired and regretful. "And I didn't know that that was what I was doing. Can we work out what to do next?"
"Good to meet you too." Rosemary smiled in an easy, engaging way, "I'm glad to see that Bree's getting so much support. She never hesitates to do anything they call on her to do, even in the worst of conditions. She deserves as least as much in return."
While Bree slept, the station's deputy commander was arranging for another HH-65 to be available to work on Saturday, which was when the powerboat races were to be held.

Ebony nodded, "Yeah, we can. Just try to think rationally this time. There are many other options here."
*****
"And I agree with that," nodded Delfina.

"I wanna help Raven out." Bill raised his front again. "And by the Manufacturer, I wanna put these SOB's away before they hurt anyone else."
"My daughter was born as a variant that is a blessing to others, but in many ways a curse to herself." Guy smiled sadly. "Our "work ethic", if you will, is not something we are taught so much as it is hard-wired from birth. But hers, and that of all the others of the same variant, is intensified. If not controlled and channeled, it can drive them to their deaths."

"Then do something about it," said Ebony.
*****
"I see," nodded Delfina, "There isn't anything like that in the human culture."

Bill nodded, slowly. "All right, then. I'll take this down to the camp, first thing."
"And her variant is a sex-linked trait as well." Guy pointed out. "There are no HH-65 males, for much the same reasons that there are no male calico cats." By this he meant human-world cats, not the smalltrack kits. It was evident that he did read up on things. "It was quite a culture shock for the Coast Guard when they got everything they wanted in a helicopter, but not in both sexes. Those old veteran instructors weren't prepared for all-female classes."

"Delfina's not gonna be there," said Ebony, "She's at the Coast Guard station visiting Bree."
*****
"I guess everyone had to get used to it," said Delfina.

<<< Perhaps a time jump soon? How about to the morning of the race?>>>
"Then I'll go there, then." Bill put the binder into a compartment. Jackie had already returned with Elsie.
"She's awake again." Guy noted. Bree was looking around with sleepy eyes, no doubt feeling like a total indolent slug, despite her current state.

(((((OOC: That would work...)))))
"Yeah, okay," Ebony said with a nod.

Delfina looked toward where Bree was.
Shale, who was beside her, woke up, sensing her move, and nudged her to let her know that he was still there with her.

Bree returned the nuzzle, then addressed the station's deputy commander, who looked to be a Bronco mix. "Is the replacement coming in?"
"Yes, ma'am," he answered. "And Lt.-Commander Desmarais will be available."
"Good." she allowed a smile. To Shale and the others, she explained. "That's my old classmate, Juno." Her nostrils flared as she detected another familiar scent. "Delfina?"
"I'm heading into town." Bill told Jackie. He put away what he needed to and prepared to move out.

"Ah," nodded Shale.
The Mustang pulled forward and smiled, "Hey, Bree. You know it's me. Just coming by to see how you're doing."

Ebony had by then calmed down again. She had the urge to call Kendall and the kids as she was missing them right at this moment.

Bree looked Delfina's new guise up and down. "It definitely suits you. I'm feeling better, but not quite there yet. I'm still feeling guilty about asking my old classmate to go off her leave to take over for me at the race, but if I can trust anyone, it's Juno. And this wedding will be a total surprise for her."
Ebony's words had stung him, but Bill knew that she had a point. He was quite deliberate and purposeful as he pulled out and took the downhill road into town, to arrive at the CG station and cock his front in puzzlement as he looked for Delfina, but saw a Mustang who sounded like her...

"Yeah, thinking of dropping the Probe guise It's getting old," shrugged Delfina, "Anyway, I think that this is the first time I heard you two are getting married. Congratulations."
"Thanks," nodded Shale, then he nudged Bree, "And you don't have to feel guilty about Juno taking over for you. She's helping you out."

Ebony went to someplace quiet, pulled out her cell phone, and called home, hoping that someone was there to pick up at the other end. She was also working on calming herself down and pulling herself together after what had happened earlier.

"Oh, you didn't know yet?" Bree raised her 'shades. "OK, it was very short notice. But we figured on Sunday afternoon if nothing big happens in the meantime. You're invited, and anyone else at the camp too."
She turned back to Shale. "Juno's had a bit of a raw deal in life and in her career, and it took some time for her to stand up for herself and get her due. I'm hoping the race and what comes after it will be a nice diversion for her."
Kendall picked up the call on the other end of the line, knowing who it was by the ring tone. "Hello, Ebs?"

"I'm sure some will love to come," said Delfina, "Including those two lovebirds." She was referring to Dawn and Manuel, "I'm sure I can get some of them away from their daily tasks."
*****
"Ken?" Ebony's voice wavered a bit as she had been crying earlier, "Do you have any free time this weekend...?"

"I think half the town's going to be in on it before long." Bree laughed a little nervously. "But I don't mind."
"I'll make the time." Kendall answered in definite tones. "Where are you now? Still in Villa Hermosa?"
