(((((OOC: Had to eat dinner...)))))
"Surveillance? What were they looking for?" asked Delfina.
*****
"I believe he did," replied Nerisa, "So you think that some narcissist has hired Carl to do their dirty work?"
*****
At last, the line picked up and an elder woman's voice answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Mom," Shale said, "It's me, Shale."
"Oh, Shale," said the woman, who's name was Cornelia Huntington, "It's so good to hear from you. How've you been?"
"I'm fine," answered Shale, "I'm done here in Villa Hermosa with Bree. She's fallen ill and I'm staying with her for the time being."
"Oh, the poor dear," Cornelia replied, "Is she going to be alright?"
"Yes, Mom, she's recovering," said Shale, "Don't worry, okay? But anyway, the reason I'm calling is that Bree and I have decided to get married right here. We've been putting it off long enough."
"That's wonderful," exclaimed Cornelia, "I am so proud of my baby boy. He's finally found a girl he wants to be with for the rest of his life. I can't wait to be a grandmother."
"Mom, she's a freemartin," Shale corrected, already feeling embarrassment, "There'd be no way unless we adopt. Besides, we haven't talked about it yet so we haven't made a decision about children yet. But, please don't push it."
"Well, alright," sighed Cornelia, "So when are you two going to hold the wedding?"
"In a few days when Bree's fully recovered," said Shale, "Her family's already here. And I would want you to come too, if you have some free time."
"Of course I'll come. I wouldn't miss my Baby Boy's wedding," Cornelia said with a smirk in her voice.
Shale silently groaned. He hated that nickname that his mother had given to him when he was little, but didn't say anything.
"Your little sister will be coming with me as well as she is spending the week with me," said Cornelia.
"Taranee's coming?" asked Shale. He knew that sometimes teenage Taranee, the youngest of the eight children of the Huntington family, would get herself into some occasional mischief and would tease him whenever she would get the chance.
"Yes," replied Cornelia, "She's coming."
"Oh, well, okay," said Shale, "Well, we'll see you both then. Bye, Mom."
"Bye, honey," replied Cornelia, hanging up on her end of the line.
With that, the Agusta/Bell mix closed the connection. He gave a sigh and turned back to the hangar.

<<< "Baby Boy"... ooh, that's wince-worthy XD >>>
"We're not sure, that's what makes me kind of afraid for Bill now. He's a sturdy guy, but he's definitely gettin' on." Fillmore jigged his front uneasily. "We'd find tracks and a little bit of trash now and then, where we wouldn't expect to find any, and a little too much to be coincidence, y'know? I think I saw one of them, a grey van that took off as soon as I saw him. Older guy, late 70's."
"Or HE's the whackjob." Stokes snorted. "But wherewithall and resources he definitely has, enough to cause us a lot of grief, and he's done that already." He checked his onboard clock. "I have to report back to the station soon, but I'll get back to you with anything I hear."
Bree had settled down again, awaiting Shale's return. She cocked her head as she watched him come back, as he appeared just a little bit embarrassed.

At that moment, a sleepy Viper came out of her tent. She was awakened by the voices outside and had come out to check it out. "What's goin' on...?"
*****
"Of course," nodded Nerisa, "You know how to get in touch with me if you do."
Freda nuzzled the cutter, a bit unwilling to let him leave.
*****
Shale came up, putting on a smile. "Got ahold of Mom. She and my kid sister, Taranee, are coming."

"OK." Bree nodded and smiled. She settled on the fresh bedding, still feeling the effects of her illness, but much improved over yesterday. "I haven't met your little sister. What's she like?"
Stokes was as reluctant to tear away from Freda as she was to see him leave, and tenderly returned the nuzzle. "I'll be back as soon as I can." He slowly broke contact, turned, and then headed out the cove, taking one last look at his love before turning out onto the sea.
"Oh, hi Ebony." Fillmore said. "I was headin' back to the Springs 'cause the festival is over and I have to get set for the next one, but I was just telling Delfina that someone's been stalking out Bill."

"Well, Taranee's a bit of a mischief-maker," Shale said as he came up, "She has a habit of getting herself into trouble, but she seems to have fun doing it. And her biggest mischief-making activity is to annoy me."
*****
Freda watched for the longest time, seeing the cutter disappear behind an outcrop of the rocky cove entrance. Nerisa gave her a friendly nudge.
"Don't worry," said the destroyer, "He said he'll be back."
"I know..." sighed Freda.
*****
"What happened to him? Who's stalking him?" Ebony suddenly became alert.

"Sounds like Robin in our early years." Bree laughed. "She was a pest. Good thing she's not here right now to hear me say that."
"For sure he will. He's nuts about you. It's in his eyes." Marty said reassuringly.
"Spotted this grey van guy, late 70's type, hanging around, and other times we found tracks and maybe the odd bit a' trash where it shouldn't be." Fillmore told Ebony. "In fact, I got some of the trash right on me here in case we had to bring it to the police or something." He took out a plastic bag and nudged it out to her.

"She probably be a little teen terror once she and Mom arrive," said Shale.
*****
Freda smiled at her friends, "Thanks, I know. I love him too."
*****
Ebony blinked. "You might have to. That van might be the same one who poisoned Bree's fuel and made her sick."

"Bogus." Fillmore came as close as anyone had seen to an expression that suggested that he could kill somebody. "Whoever it was sure liked cinnamon-filled Gask-Itts."
"And she's gonna be my sister-in-law." Bree sighed. "Oh, well."
"And we won't let that waste of oil get anywhere near ya." Marty promised.

"That's what they said at the Coast Guard station when I went to visit Bree," said Ebony, "Apparently, the forms this guy who was pretending to be a delivery van was also munching on that candy as well as messing with some forms. The scent was all over those. And not to mention the company who delivers Bree's meal never sent out anybody on the same day Bree got sick."
*****
"Yeah, you'll have to put up with her," agreed Shale.
*****
"Right," agreed Nerisa, "Or he's going to get a missile in his stern."
"Thanks," said Freda, "I really appreciate this."

"Really?" Fillmore's face became stormier. "I can't remember the last time I got like, THIS mad, but it's happening now."
"That's how it crumbles, I guess." Bree shrugged.
"And I'm gonna punch him right in the keel." Marty vowed, miming a roundhouse with his grappler.

"I think this has been getting us all mad," said Delfina, "because Carl has sunk to a whole new low now. He is so going to get his stern fried if I ever find him."
"He even, unknowingly dragged me into this too," said Ebony, "I'm a little upset and angry too."
*****
"Very true," agreed Shale as she came over and gave her a nuzzle.
*****
"I wish I could do something, but I'm just a coward," sighed Freda.

"Freda, you're no coward, you're just a gentle soul." Marty countered. "A big jerk like Carl thinks that because you're gentle like that, he could push you around. But maybe he might be wrong about you. You don't really know what you have in you until you're really up against the rocks."
Randy and the human members of the work crew were coming back from their early morning session, barge in tow. Erika tagged along with them. The go-fast girl paused as she passed Freda, scenting Lt. Stokes on her. She smiled and looped one aerial tip to resemble a "thumbs up" gesture.
"I hope you all get the mofo." Fillmore nodded. "I have to go now, but I'll tell Doc everything when I get back, and keep us posted, OK?"
Bree returned the nuzzle with a loving nibble. "Anyway, no teenage girl ever scared me."

"You really think so?" asked Freda, who half-noted Randy and Erika's return.
*****
"Alright," said Delfina, "See you later, Fillmore."
"Bye," said Ebony.
*****
"Taranee's a bit of a goth," said Shale, "Her negative attitude might be a little annoying."

"She's seventeen, you said?" Bree asked.
"Take care." Fillmore went back to his trailer that he'd left by the roadside, hitched up again, and was off.
"It's Carl that's the real coward." Marty pointed out, "Picking on people smaller than he is, hurting' em, usin' 'em. He REALLY didn't like it when Randy, Delfina and me put him on the receiving end for once. Like the humans say, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!"

"Yes," said Shale, "She is. Why?"
*****
Delfina waved as Fillmore left then turned back to the others. "Well, this has been quite a morning, huh?"
"I'll say," agreed Ebony, "I'll probably stop by Bill's place to check it out later today."
*****
"But I don't fight," said Freda.
