"For us and friends and family, yes." Bree conceded with a slightly frustrated sigh. "Military services just don't want to deal with changing people's records, and a lot of professions, like doctors and lawyers, are the same. It might not be fair, but it's reality." She rubbed her cheek against Shale's, in an affectionate, flirty way that hinted at post-nuptial delights. "But I'll still be Mrs. Huntington in all the places where it really matters."
Stokes gave a short horn blast, warning anyone approaching that he and Freda were about to emerge from the hidden inlet. He carried himself high and proud with the attractive research ship at his side.
"If anyone needed something like a day at the spa, it would be Ebony for sure." Dawn returned to her morning tasks. "Anyway, get it while it's hot."

"I'd love that," smiled Shale as he returned the nuzzle to his Coast Guard helo just as affectionately.

Freda smiled as she floated out of the inlet with Stokes, feeling content.
*****
"Yeah," nodded Delfina as she got a plate and served herself.

Stokes was feeling good as he moved out smartly with Freda at his starboard side. Even the pesty seagulls looked good to him in the clear sunshine. Even if the rest of the day was a total fustercluck, this time with his beloved made it all worthwhile. But, all too soon, they came to the mouth of Phantom Cove, where it would be time to part.
"Goodbye for now." Stokes nuzzled Freda one more time. "And thank you for putting up with a clumsy hulk like me."
"Good morning." It would have to be Bree's father who interrupted their private moment. "We couldn't ask for a better day." He looked up at the clear sky, with only a seagull or two between the sun and the earth... perfect flight conditions. "Jordan and Robin went to the local airport to wait for Rosemary. She started out very early from Aspen." Rosemary was Jordan's wife.
Sharon came up, and gave a nuzzle to her daughter and a smile to her future son-in-law.
Dawn paused at the sound of ships' horns. "Freda and her lieutenant are back. BIG smiles on their faces." She smirked as she resumed her cleanup.

"See you soon," Freda nuzzled Stokes in returned, "I enjoyed our time together."
Nerisa roused from her doze when she heard the horn blast and looked to see Freda and Stokes arrive. She blasted her own horn in greeting.

"Good morning," Shale said in return. He nodded to Guy's report, "Alright."
*****
"Ah, somebody got some last night," smirked Delfina, "Both of them did. They look so happy together."

Stokes nodded courteously to Nerisa. "Good morning."
"I never imagined it coming together so fast." Bree's eyes looked larger and shocked all of a sudden.
"Just hope they had some "protection." Dawn chortled. "Or they might have a little surprise a year and a half from now."

"Good morning," replied Nerisa.
"Hi, 'Risa," said Freda.
*****
"Neither have I," admitted Shale, "but it's all been good."
*****
"Hopefully," agreed Delfina.

"I'm quite not sure what you mean by that." Dawn shook her head as she cleared the table. "Hopefully" that they're using protection or that they get a little bundle of joy?"
"Well, that means you can have my "wedding present" all the sooner." Bree purred, nuzzling Shale's cheek again. After their engagement was announced, she had spent some time at Ash Mountain again, and had a few private meetings with Shayla which had proved quite instructional.
"I guess it was pretty quiet last night?" Stokes inquired of Nerisa. He was already transitioning to "on duty" mode.

"It could go either way," replied Delfina, "and it depends on what they both wanted last night, but I'm not going to delve into their personal lives like that. What they chose to do is their decision."
*****
"Aw, thank you," smiled Shale, as he returned the nuzzle.
*****
"It was quiet at least until Commander LeVausser's parents and sister came to visit," replied Nerisa, "They wanted to know about Carl and Delfina told them."

"Was there anything new that came up?" Stokes furrowed his brow. He hadn't really received any information since the previous morning.
"I know, I know." Dawn piled the dishes into the wash basin. She looked up, brushing her ash-brown hair back, as a vehicle pulled in. "Fillmore again."
Bree's parents blushed a little at hearing this, but had the good sense not to say a word.

"They suspect that he might be working for someone," said Nerisa, "That what the humans are searching for something very powerful and Carl's employers want get at it as well. They think that, with Delfina being a user, that she would use it how they think she would use it. They think that what she would find would make her an ultrapowerful user and they want that power."
*****
Delfina glanced at the road. "Sounds like it. And looks like it. He's up rather early. Wonder why he's coming here for."
*****
Shale just smiled and shrugged. He didn't care who heard, he was just happy to be with Bree.

"Sounds logical." Stokes nodded slowly, lowering his voice. "And from what I figure, he's got some sick thing for Freda as well." The young cutter's professional mask slipped a little here, revealing an I-AM-SO-GOING-TO-KILL-HIM flash in his eyes.
<<< You know, Carl could fit the profile of a stalker >>>
"Hey." the Microbus padded across on the sand rather than risk spinning his tires in it. "I just wanted to say goodbye for now because I'm heading back home."
Bree nudged Shale. "So, are you going to call your mom or shall I?"

"He'd better not..." Nerisa growled low, "Or he'll have a missile in his stern..."
Freda was still nearby and she had caught some of the conversation, though she still did not understand the meaning. "What about that nasty Carl?" she asked as she was still afraid of him.
*****
"So soon?" asked Delfina.
*****
"Okay, okay," Shale got up, "I'll give her a call."

"The organics festival is over and done with, and I'm all sold out anyway. It was a good show." Fillmore grinned. "But besides saying 'bye, I wanted to ask you if you'd keep an eye out for Bill. Let's just say there's been some stuff going on."
"Apparently he's been hanging around because he or whoever's paying him figures that if Delfina, a superuser, is looking for something, it must be powerful and they'd like to have it too." Stokes scowled. "And these people assume everyone else has the same motives as they do. They're sick."
Bree giggled like a schoolgirl as her intended went off to make the call.

Delfina became concerned when she heard this. "What's going on?"
*****
"But Delfina wouldn't do that," said Freda, who had known the human longer, "That's not like her at all."
*****
Shale gave her a kiss and went off a little ways and dialed his mother's number, and as he heard the ringing from the other end, he hoped that she wasn't too busy to pick up.

"We came back last night, and found someone had been inside Bill's studio. Nothing big was missing, but there was stuff scattered about." Fillmore explained. "And there's been signs of people hanging around, like doing surveillance or something."
"Didn't Bree's old man say that they were something like narcissists?" Marty interjected at last. "They assume everybody's mind works like theirs?"
Bree yawned and shifted her position obligingly as Greg and another forklift started to groom her, lifting off the blanket by quarter sections and rubbing her down with padded boards covered in shammy cloth. She was starting to feel stiff after several days down on the mat and their attention was welcome and appreciated.
"Do you think I could stand up for a bit?" she asked Greg.
"Wouldn't hurt for a little while, and it'd stretch your shocks." he nodded. "But please don't overdo it like yesterday." he took on a pained expression.
"Don't worry." Bree slowly stood up, sighing as she stretched from nose to tail. Greg looked amused as he took the opportunity to check out Bree's underside and help stretch various undercarriage joints. The other 'lift, a young female petty officer, went to change mat covers. It was not lost on Bree that Greg seemed to have considerably more tolerance for this girl than the other attendants, perhaps seeing greater ability and sense in her. Her tag read. "P.O. Paula Jacincto." Bree would keep that in mind.
