Nerisa only smiled in response. It was not partly due to Erika's actions, but also because Freda was absent from the cove and she knew where the research vessel had gone off to and who she had gone to meet.
*****
"Thanks," said Ebony, "That means alot."
*****
"I'd bet," chuckled Freda, "Must be lonely working out here all by yourself for months at a time."

Erika shook herself off and came to rest on Nerisa's starboard side. "Don't mind if I use you for shade, do you?"
"How are the kids handling it?" Jordan asked.
"It's got its lonely times." Fergus admitted, "But I like going out and feeding the gulls."
"Better that they're on the island than on our decks." Stokes said waggishly to Freda.

"Not at all," replied Nerisa, "The smaller ships in my fleet do it all the time when we're in port. I don't really mind."
*****
"They're holding up pretty well," said Ebony, "The twins seem to take it in stride, but I'm worried for my daughter. She's not handling it well at all. She's only known her grandmother for five years. Such a loss is devastating to her."
*****
Freda laughed, "I'll say."

Erika settled with an exhausted WHEW! in Nerisa's shadow. "I won't say much, but we had fun."
"Have you thought about counseling?" Jordan asked.
"I like the terns better." Stokes admitted. "They don't make a mess all over you, and they're fun to watch as they dive for food."

"That's good," said Nerisa, who wasn't one to ask personal questions, "Glad you did."
*****
"Kendall and I have talked about it," said Ebony, "but I'm not sure Artemis will go for it. She's rather young and I'm afraid that she might fight us on this issue."
*****
"I like them too," agreed Freda, "Aren't they graceful when they dive?"

"It's almost like a ballet out there when they get goin'." Fergus nodded.
"Five years old is a difficult time to lose someone." Jordan agreed.
"We should be back in a couple of hours, Jordan." Robin called out to her brother.
Erika yawned and stretched before settling back and dozing off. Randy, she'd found, was not only an enthusiastic lover, but surprisingly skilled for a lad of twenty. Erika was only twenty-two herself, but her experiences over the years, however unsavory the circumstances under which they had been obtained, had given her an ample basis for comparison. Perhaps some older but well-kept-up woman had given Randy some tutoring. It wasn't uncommon in these tourist venues for such ladies to go prowling for boy toys.

"I think it's nice watching them in their natural habitat," said Freda.
*****
"It is," Ebony nodded in agreement.
*****
Nerisa just let her mind drift for a bit as she rested at anchor in the cove.

"Everything's better that way." Stokes nudged Freda, "Especially you."
"My mate and I haven't had kids yet, but maybe we should get busy on it." Jordan looked a bit more sober. "So they can get to know their grandparents while they're alive."
Soon, three sets of rotor blades were heard in the air over the cove, as Robin and her parents looked for a good place to land.

"Aw..." chuckled Freda as Stokes gave her a nudge, "You're so sweet, Ben..." She didn't know how else to respond to that.
*****
"That's a good idea, but may talk it over with your mate and see if you guys are ready," said Ebony, "That's how Kendall and I did it before we decided to have Artemis."
*****
Delfina stood up and shaded her eyes as she watched the three helos come in. There was a huge space next to the camp where they could make a landing.

Guy loitered in the air while his mate and daughter landed in the grassy area and rolled off, then set down himself. He surveyed the camp with slightly raised eyeshades, finding it larger and a bit more involved than he'd thought. Robin, in the meantime, was already looking about for Delfina.
Stokes responded with another nuzzle. "And you're sweetest." He felt ready to proceed to another level if Freda was willing.
Fergus chuckled in amusement. "Looks like you two'll be off, then. Thanks fer droppin' by."
"We already have been discussing it." Jordan nodded. "Rosemary is ready, but we've been trying to a bit more settled before going through with it."

"Robin," Delfina called, raising her arm and waving it, "Over here."
She began walking toward the helos.
*****
Freda giggled as she began to grow more relaxed by being around Ben as they spent more time with each other. She wanted to take it further and she was, indeed, willing. "Yes, we are," she replied to Fergus, "It was nice meeting you."
*****
"Well, just make sure it's soon," said Ebony, "Or find a way."

Folding her rotor blades, Robin turned towards Delfina. "Glad to see you again. This is quite the setup." She looked about at the tents, trailers and facilities.
Sharon and Guy followed up behind, nostrils flaring at the novel scents. Neither of them had yet met humans directly.
"We definitely will now." Jordan vowed. "Life's too short to hold things off." He looked towards Bree and Shale, now nested together like sleeping cats. "Speaking of which, they should just get married already."
"Goodbye now." Fergus waved as the two departed.

"Yeah, it's always good to be prepared," replied Delfina. She glanced over at the other two helos that had accompanied Robin, "So those are yours and Bree's folks?"
*****
"Yeah, it wasn't too long ago that he proposed to her, wasn't it?" asked Ebony, looking at the pair.
*****
Freda sailed away with Ben. She found she liked being with the cutter and she felt happy for once. "So," she asked after awhile, "Where else can we go?"

"Yes, that's Mom and Papa." Robin moved aside for her parents.
"Good afternoon, Madame Verant." Guy tipped his nose courteously. "I am Guy LeVasseur, and this is Sharon, my wife."
"Hello." Sharon smiled. "And thank you for putting up with us for a little while."
"In April, yeah." Jordan nodded. "But they're already sleeping together like old marrieds."
"I hope the past few nights' events haven't soured you on the Palace Caverns and rocks yet." Stokes said. "The rocks really come out well at low tide, and they really do look like a palace."

"It's no problem. It's good to meet you too," replied Delfina, "And please, just call me Delfina. Everybody here does. The formalities aren't needed here."
*****
"Kendall and I did that too before we got married. Maybe they should hold the wedding now," said Ebony.
*****
"No it doesn't, but I've never been there before," said Freda, "I'd like to see it, though."
