"Yes, sir," nodded Shale, "I am."
*****
"Perhaps," said Raven as he petted Dude.

"You are a man of few words," Guy smiled tightly. "At least I can see one virtue in you already."
"I wonder what they're cooking up?" Randy looked towards the tent.

"I'm not one for long, drawn-out conversations, Sir," said Shale, "Except when my job calls for it, I'm the quiet type."
*****
"I do not know," said Raven, "We might not know until they come back out."

Guy studied Shale intently, not feeling rushed to give any answer to that. With her workload, "quiet" is probably a blessing for her.
Sharon came up then. "We ordered in from the fuel stop. Would you like to join us, Mr. Huntington?"
Randy sighed again. "We'll just have to wait and see what they've got planned."

"That's really nice of you, Ma'am," Shale said with an appreciative nod, "Thank you."

Raven nodded, "I would like to help as well."

Sharon nudged some cans over to Greg. "These are for Bree when she wakes up and feels like eating."
"OK." The forklift nodded.
The other helos were gathered outside, as it was a pleasant night aside from the circumstances. Sharon led the two helo men back over.
Dude let out a loud MEOW!, as if to put his two cents in.

Shale went over with Sharon and Guy to where the other helos were.

"And someone else agrees with me," said Raven.

Bree opened her eyes slowly. She still had a few days to recovery, but at least she wasn't burning up now. Her nose was cooler, and getting its moisture back. And she was hungry.
Greg had been napping beside her, almost nestled against her rugged-up side. He suddenly went upright, yawned and opened his eyes before rolling around to Bree's front and cradling her face gingerly in his forks and lifting it to check her eyes. "A bit brighter this morning. Are you feeling up to something to drink?"
"I'm feeling a bit hungry." Bree nodded as Greg released her.
"Your mother brought these." Greg carried a couple of cans over. "She says she doesn't trust what was brought in yesterday, and I can't say I blame her." he cracked one open and set up the spout. Bree took it and began sipping slowly. Her mother had remembered her favorite flavor.
Outside, the other helos were stirring back to wakefulness.
Lt. Stokes was still dozing. He didn't have to be out until 0900 this morning, which meant he could catch a little extra sleep. Ensign Jastrow was already active, sighting Randy and Erika coming into the marina and waving an aerial.

Shale was just waking up as well and the first thought he had was to see how Bree was doing this morning. He stood up on his landing gear and shook the sleep out of him and went over to the hangar and peeked in.
"Good morning."
*****
Ebony had also gone into town as well, keeping her own task in mind as she headed for the Coast Guard station docks and, of course, where Stokes was.
She kept repeating to herself in her mind what she was going to say to the cutter.
*****
Freda remained in the cove, her obligation still up to help the humans. She still kept to herself even as he occasionally glanced toward the beach to see what the humans were up to and if they needed her soon.
But always they were busy with their own tasks.
*****
On the beach, Delfina was already up, already had breakfast, and was sketching Raven's medallion in a notebook. The alien had allowed her to do this while he himself had gone back to his true form and was floating out in the cove himself.

"Good morning to you too." Bree smiled, looking up. "You sleep well?"
Randy and Erika met with Jastrow at the limits of the CG station's zone. "What's Ebony up to?" the ensign asked as he looked back towards the pier.
"She's gonna have a talk with the Lieutenant there." Randy answered. "How long has he been moping around like that?"
"Since yesterday." the speedboat ensign shrugged. "He didn't touch his ration the night before, so he's obviously not feeling too great."
"Freda's been the same way." Erika mentioned. "Looks like they miss each other."
Dawn noted that Delfina was still busy, and went to untie the inflatable and see about Freda. She pushed it out, started up the outboard, and headed out to where Freda and Marty had anchored.

"I did," nodded Shale.

Ebony finally pulled up to the cutter's dock. She cleared her throat. "Excuse me, Mr. Stokes," she said, "Do you have a minute?"
*****
Freda glanced up and saw the small inflatable pull away from the beach and head toward her. What now?

The cutter shifted his eyes to the car on the pier. "Just "Ben," if that's OK with you."
Bree took a deep breath, and then forced herself to a standing position, giving Shale a nuzzle. "That's good." She stood there, overcoming fatigue and dizziness, for another minute or two while Greg hovered nearby. "That I'm sick is completely irrelevant to the fact that I'm still responsible for this place and everyone in it. I heard somebody say that Lt. Stokes is off his fuel. I really need to look into this, like NOW." She moved out, still in her fitted rug, headed for the gentle incline that would take her from the helo compound to the pier. Greg and her startled family followed suit.
Dawn tied the inflatable to the plank-topped raft, and climbed onto it. "Morning, you two." she said to Freda and Marty.

"Sorry, habit," said Ebony, "Okay, then. Ben it is. So..." she paused for a moment, searching for a subject that would break the ice, "I heard about Bree falling ill. Do you know how she's doing right now?"
*****
Shale blinked in surprise and hurried after Bree as she left the hangar. "Bree, wait a minute," he said, catching up to her, "You still need to rest. You haven't recovered yet."
*****
"Good morning," Freda responded dully. It didn't feel like a good morning to her, though.

"I heard her fever broke a little after midnight." Stokes reported. "But nobody's told me for sure yet."
Bree proceeded carefully down the incline, sides heaving as she was still weak, to find Lt. Stokes talking to Ebony. She paused, listening as her fiancee and the rest of her family caught up with her.
"Freda, we've noticed that you've been kinda down in the dumps lately." Dawn said. "Are you feeling OK?"

"Man, I know what a fever feels like," said Ebony, "So, I know what's she's going through. But as far as anyone giving you a heads up on the situation, maybe you should go ask. I'm sure they'll tell you."
*****
"Bree, please," said Shale as he caught up to her, "You have to come back and lay down."
*****
"Yeah, I'm okay," sighed Freda, "I'm just tired, that's all."
