Bree blinked her running lights in response, making one more pass before continuing on her appointed rounds.
Randy looked up. "She's OK, as far as coasties go. She actually takes time to explain the "why" of things when she can." He rolled his eyes a bit. "Some of my family don't really get along with "the authoritays."

"That's Bree," said Delfina, "She sometimes comes to visit us humans at our mountain complex in Colorado whenever she has a vacation or a few days off. She also has a boyfriend named Shale Huntington."

"I think I mighta seen them hanging out together once or twice. Is he a Bell mix guy?" Randy asked. "The scuttlebutt around here is that she can't have kids for some reason, so it kinda surprised us to hear she'd got herself a man."
"Some guys aren't really fixated on the idea of having families, though I've heard Bree and Shale might adopt if they marry." Dawn watched the Dauphin head off into the distance again.

"He's an Agusta Bell mix," said Delfina, "and he's been really accepting and supportive of Bree, despite her inability to have kids."

"Good for her." Randy shrugged. "I figure with all the stress she goes through, she needs some lovin'."
"So what are we going to do if that guy's still there tomorrow?" Manuel looked back towards the opening of the cove.

"If the "salvage operation" turns out to be a front for something else, than I'm gonna start asking questions. To heck if that guy doesn't like it," said Delfina, "and we're gonna have to be very discreet about our diving activities as well."

Randy glanced up to Freda. "Any suggestions there?"

"Well, I can look to see who this guy really is," offered Freda, "and who hired him and those divers of his."

"You can do that, sure." Randy drew the corners of his mouth anxiously, "But for Chrysler's sake, watch out for that guy."

"I'll keep an eye out for him," said Freda, "Don't worry. I'll be fine. I can take care of myself."

I hope so, Randy's eyes seemed to say.

"How about we get back to shore," suggested Delfina, "I'll set up the wards and I also want to study this coin more and perhaps make some observations and make some traces of the symbols on it as well."

Meanwhile, deep below the surface of the sea and down at the bottom of that very same trench lay what looked like an aquatic shape underneath a ton of ocean debris that had fallen from above. Since it was very dark, it was hard to see the outline and it was very still, as if dead. But if it were, it's body would've rusted by now, even after 60 years, and it's whole length encrusted by the tiny sea life that lived there. But it was not and it wasn't.
Instead, the thing was only in hibernation mode. It was alive, but it was unable to wake up, due to the fact that a component it needed for alertness and movement was missing.

"Yeah, sounds good to me." Randy shrugged.
Carl was not a happy camper today. The forklift crew was finding any reason at all not to deal with the big cruiser personally as he snorted and went on about the incident that happened earlier.
"You all let some weakling human frighten you, and in the meantime what we want could be right beneath us!" he raged. "Is our client going to pay for "almost" and "maybe"? Nein! they pay for results! Now get your heads right and get back to work!"
The small, cowed machines scuttled to do his bidding...

Delfina nodded and prepared the dinghy to take her humans back to the shore. There was a satisfying splash as the boat hit the water. She gestured to the other humans to climb onboard before she climbed on.
When they got to the shore, Delfina climbed out and walked over to the camp.

About twenty other humans were in the process of cleaning and freezing shellfish to send back to Ash Mountain, and dulse was drying on racks. A few other small inshore craft were gathered about the shoreline, most of them of a more utilitarian bent than Randy and they didn't have much to say to him. A reefer truck was waiting to take a load out, wrinkling his grille at the smell of shellfish remains which were also being held for conversion to fertilizer, which was what carsverse locals usually did with these things. "I'm glad SOMEBODY has a use for the smelly things, 'cause I'd have nothin' to do with it." he was heard to mutter.
Dawn and Manuel went along with Delfina, waving goodbye to Randy for the moment.
