I just bought my first cell phone. I've been shopping around for the whole month and Virgin Mobile had the best deal. Yay!

I'm on Virgin. I don't use my cellphone much...
...except today XD. I think I ate half of my account (which I usually refill every three months...)

Congratulations on getting your first phone!
Virgin mobile, really. I wouldn't have thought of them as having good rates, that's surprising. You know it's funny I just noticed that they were back in town (or maybe just back in the mall, not sure) the other day... they had a kiosk a few years ago, then I don't know what happened to it, then I saw it near Booster Juice and Sport Chek a couple days ago. Weird.

I have Virgin myself, I prefer prepaid phones over contract phones. I only pay for what I need.

At the same time I was buying my prepaid phone, there was a guy buying a couple of phones for himself and his SO on contract. The hoops he and the clerk had to jump through while the poor girl was trying to serve both of us at the same time! No contracts for me! No more hunting down scuzzy pay phones in dubious places or leaving my stall or gear unattended.

$850? OMG! That poor sap who was buying contract phones was complaining about having bought an iPhone off of eBay and now he couldn't get any locally available cell service to activate it for him. SUCKER!

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it! I'm still holding out and not getting one, despite numerous guilt trips laid on me by relatives who insist that not having a cell phone is going to endanger the whole family. I can see how yours will be convenient in helping you avoid searching out pay phones far from your booth.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rogers are wankers. I haven't had any service through them myself, but so many people have told me of their horror stories when dealing with them. Of course they won't activate it for this guy, they know that he didn't buy it from them. Before the iPhone 3G came out, you'd have to take a $500 risk of buying the product through Apple or online (at the time, they were still working on the honor system that yes, you would be a good little AT&T customer and take it to your closest retailer to get it unlocked hehe) and seeing if you can get someone from Rogers to put a SIM card in and unlock it under the table for you. Apparently it was a crapshoot, but there were a few hacked iPhones floating around here. I still want one

Rogers sucks dead donkeys. I had a bad experience with them some years back that put me off cell phones for a long while until I found the Virgin deal.
The only thing we get from them is cable, and with Aliant now offering TV channels, I might persuade Dad to bundle it with our phone and internet and give Jolly Rogers the finger for good.

My cell phone fried last night at the Avril concert ... the computer in it is totally gone, I can't even get it to turn on. If Aliant can't do anything about it, or give me a loaner phone (I'll be out of town for the next week or so, and will NEED a phone) , I might take a look at Virgin... my contract was up in May so I'm really under no obligation to stay with them if they give me trouble over it lol
