Ebony lifted an eyeshade and glanced over. "Good. Don't want them falling in." She watched as Ricardo and Phoenix nudged the twins away from the koi pond for the umpteenth time, not keen on losing her children to drowning.
~~~~~
Jade just shrugged and ate her dinner. Right now, she was too hungry to care what it was at the moment.
~~~~~
She was almost completely recovered as she watched the rescue efforts at the gorge with the convoy. Delfina wondered what was in that black box.

"A better fence..." Phoenix mumbled. "I got an idea." She nudged Falcon closer to Kestrel. "I just need a little room.

"I don't know if Ebs is okay with that," said Ricardo, "She still doesn't trust magic."

"I'm not going to cast anything on the twins," Phoenix said. "Its going to be on the ground around the pond."

Ricardo noticed that Ebony was watching with an intense, disapproving gaze now.
"Ebs is extremely protective, even if there isn't anything threatening the twins," he said, "You'll have to forgive her for that."

"So getting her to trust magic is going to be a little harder than I thought," Phoenix sighed. "I really wish I could find a way to get her to trust magic."

"She's probably going to be a whole lot trickier than Delfina, too," said Ricardo, "but it's probably a bad idea to get that trust through her children. I don't know. Ebony has always disliked magic sense she was little. She doesn't talk much about it, but just mentions a bad experience with magicians and that's it."

Phoenix tapped her antenna on her hood for a moment, and pulled out one of the spellbooks and flipped through it. "What do you think she'd do if she suddenly found herself gifted in the mystical arts?"

"I'd say she would act very surprised and confused, as well as wanting to know just what the heck had happened," replied Ricardo, "but wouldn't those stripes she's wearing interfere with the spell?"

"It wouldn't," Phoenix said. "The spell will just temporarily transfer my powers to her for about a day. Lets see what she thinks of magicians after she been one for a while."
(((And I gotta to go to work now, and I won't be back on until tonight. Phoenix is gonna use the spell to let Ebony be a user for a day, hoping that it might change her attitude towards them. See ya.)))

"Well, better be prepared with an explanation in case she does ask," said Ricardo.
"Don't worry, I will," Phoenix assured him, muttering the spell that would transfer her powers to Ebony, "There. Done."
~~~~~
Half-dozing by the bench, Ebony roused a bit to feel a tingling sensation inside her, but she just thought it was Akira acting up again, so paid it little heed, except to tell the demon to settle down. She wouldn't know that Phoenix had used a spell to transfer her powers to the Viper.
When Claire was being hoisted up, Aron kept his focus on the rope he was holding on, feeling more tremors than it should be on it. He decided against telling Ronald, as if it was any major problem, the rest would feel it also.
Cole looked at Kathleen circling around the site. He welcomed the reminder that not all mages were as those he knew personally. While most cars, and most likely humans, could do some minor tricks, such as special paranormal skill or cast a single spell, Cole was what the Magic department in the Organization called 'Severed'. Someone who had absolute inability to manipulate magic at any degree, even unable to use most magic weapons that average Joe could use. Due to that, one of the Organization's mages in Colorado, a Ford Granada named Marice, picked on him constantly. Most members were taught to at least know when someone was trying to read them, but Cole was unable to learn that simple skill. His defenses were to recite a chapter of a law book, or visualize the ocean. Fortunately, Mavis had not picked up what exactly Cole's mission was, though she did try. He had several scars from five years old to a week old, but only apparent to those who tried to scan him properly.
Cole brought up the radio. "Thanks for the help Kathleen." He said truthfully. "But it looks like we don't need your help anymore at the moment, you can go back."
<<< YEEHAW! Last page of GAAK is finished! >>>
"All right." Kathleen called back. She sent a message to Delfina. You can head back soon.
Julian was also picking up on the tremors. "It's not the rope. It's the ground that's moving." Already the pack string was on its way back up. It was then that Lazaro got the call to retrieve the black box for real. "Just get it and get out of there!" Ronald told him from his vantage point. "They'll do a body recovery when it's safe."
Darcy was also doing her best to keep the twins away from the koi pond. Tess was arranging for a taller barrier to be erected around the pond, fencing not unlike that used for the goats. A more visually harmonious solution would be worked out in time.
Okay, Delfina answered, standing up. She was feeling a bit better after her rest. Then she picked up on the tremors as well. Whoever's still down there should be getting out of there now.
~~~~~
Ebony became more fully awake and looked around the center court. She saw that there was a stronger fence being put up around the koi pond so that the twins wouldn't accidentally fall in. That was a relief to her.
