"I see", Matt nodded. "As investigators, I suppose we have to look into both sides of the story until one proves to be false."

-Niles looked over to Matt.- Exactly right. We need to find people who actually knew Thing, or find evidence of either story. -He looked back to BC.- Did you know him personally?
-BC shook his cab.- No, I didn't. I saw pictures of him, and that was enough to tell me not to come into contact with him, along with the many horror stories. There was an elder of our herd when I was young that had a huge scar down one side of his cab, and his mirror on that side was gone. His story was that he had a run-in with Thing shortly after getting in a fight with his wife.

(((((OOC: Whoa... Sorry for being late today... I had to sleep-in, I was so tired... Now let's see what I can come up with...)))))
"I suppose there's two different versions of a story that it's sometimes hard to tell which one is the correct one," nodded Ebony, "Just as there's two or more different versions of an alibi that a criminal makes up to justify his or her innocence or prove his or her guilt."
"Ghosts can't really tell their own stories," said Lorena, "So it would have to be up to people like myself who are tuned into the psychical energy that surrounds the place of death. Usually, I'll just get an image, or several of them, of what had happened in the individual's life, their emotional energy of what they were feeling at the time of death, or a phrase or sentence repeated over and over comes through to my consciousness, either asking a question and making a statement. I've rarely had spirits directly speak to me before, but that might change someday."

"Ebony," Matt questioned, "How well if at all did you know him, apart from when he tried to kill you? Did he ever speak to you?"

"Well, I first met him at the height of the Street Wars in Nitropolis," said Ebony, "Quiet, but helpful. Kept things in order outside the city. But I've rarely ever spoken to him, except to thank him for his help or ask him to do me a favor. I really never knew him that well and gave him his space. I didn't want to intrude on his privacy."

"Yeah, staying out of his way would've seemed like a good idea to me.", Matt nodded.

Interesting. -Niles replied.- So, he was helpful? It doesn't make sense why he'd hurt you all of a sudden when he helped you so much in the past.
-BC:- It really doesn't make sense unless you take into account the side of the story that's not generally accepted by combine kind.

"Maybe that's something that I didn't take into account," admitted Ebony, "I judged him just a little bit too quickly without knowing the facts and I end up being haunted by him."

-BC:- Or face it, he's just plain evil. Combines for years have worked to change our image. We're seen as dangerous, angry beasts. None of us like to admit that one of us is really like that... but with Thing, nobody really knew for sure.
-Niles:- I think it's a good idea to head back to Nitropolis, and figure out what this guy was really about.
-BC:- I'm not allowed in city limits up there... but if you need anything, here's my cell number. -BC gave Niles a scrap of paper with his right CB antenna.-
-Niles tucked away the paper with his antenna.- Thank you, sir. We appreciate your help.

"We appreciate it," nodded Lorena.
Ebony agreed, "Thanks, BC. And, you know, I think I'd like to hear a little bit more about combines and their society when we get back from Nitropolis."

Any time. -BC gave a gentle smile as he backed up, K-turned, and started down the ravine with his header lifted to keep it from getting damaged on the rocks.-
-Niles looked to BC as he drove away, then looked back to Lorena:- Hm... nice guy.

Lorena nodded, "Yes, nice fellow. He sounds like a worthwhile friend to have."
Ebony also agreed, "Yeah. Guess I'm gonna be going on a trip back to my old homecity."
