I would think that the rims are also not that feeling, considering they come off when you swap out a tire. they'd get contacts and bumps and such through the hub and suspension. so the tires and rims being 'shoes' makes sense to an extent.

Also, when he's being "massaged" by the automatic brush thingies in his trailer after the first race, he's showing obvious signs of pleasure. Man, that always makes me laugh. I think they can feel cold and hot. They can also get sick, because there is the clinic and there is the scene where Sheriff mentions that the sun must be getting to Lightning when he tries to tell everyone that Doc is the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. They think he's going crazy or getting sick. Well, they must get sick, because Snot Rod sneezes. They definatley don't feel in their tires, in my opinion, because they can be taken off, replaced, and heck, they even pop. It would be like having exploding feet. I think they just have feeling in their inner-wheel, but the tires are like shoes. I think the undercarriage would be the most sensitive part of the car, but I imagine they have feeling all over, they're just a lot tougher than your regular organic being. They would have to be, at the speeds they go and the kinds of things they need to endure.

About the dashboard thing...I think it may be possible for cars to accurately sense things such as speed, RPM, fuel, etc. We see them use or refer to other "internal systems" such as DJ's CD player, Van's GPS, or Lightning/Chick/King's radios, so it's not a baseless theory. Lightning probably didn't sense that his gas is low simply because he was too excited. I also think Cars cars are tougher than real life cars...just compare The King's crash with this very similar real-life one(which probably inspired Pixar when they created the crash in the first place): youtube.com/watch?v=Jjel7nFlK2QEven with the video's low quality, it's clear that Rusty's car took a lot more damage than The King...which make sense, seeing how real-life cars are designed to take damage for the driver, while a Cars car is the driver.

Cars car metal = leathery... if you notice on the scene were lightning makes Red cry, Sally reverses into Luigi and "dents" him but his metal popped out again.
I think that King's metal would have "healed" like this but it was too badly damaged.

Well Lightning's pretty surprised to run out of fuel when he tries to run.
Incidentally, according to Richard Petty(?) who plays the king, The King's crash at the end is a frame by frame reconstruction of a crash he actually had. '77 I think it was.

Petty says it's based on one of his crashes, but I have a hard time believing that, since it creepily resembles another NASCAR crash by someone completelely different: youtube.com/watch?v=Jjel7nFlK2Q
