Wow, does he like blast through old automotive junkyards full of dead cars?
Anywhoo, I modeled the entire exterior of my house accurately in SketchUp in about 2 hours.

Actually Grind racing is about as close to demolition derby mixed with gladiator combat as it gets.
Interesting... it's always the quiet ones...

Anybody who is working with Cinema 4D around? I am modelling Detlef in there in the moment, the programm is quite easy and nice to handle though I simply can't find the cut-out tool, like you modell a form and cut it out of another form.. and I would need that tool now... *sigh*

Cinama 4D is actually a type of 3D program, Adrian. That's what 4D is.
Now I've heard of Cinama 4D before, Lizkay, but I can't say I've had any contact with the program so I don't think I'd be too much help right now. Sorry! ^^;;;

3D hates me. I'm giving up on SketchUp and sticking to line drawings. I'm not comfortable with drawing that way.
Goodbye 3D. I hate you too.

I see it less as "drawing" and more as "constructing" and "modeling".

Well, I can't do that, obviously because I have no 3D/modelling experience at all. It's too hard for me to understand and I never will. I'm too stupid to understand 3D.

Firstly, you're giving up without a fight which is even worse than just plain giving up. You give up way too easily on things which is just plain bad. Secondly, very few people are genuinly stupid and you aren't one of them. Thirdly, there are a lot of people here who can help if you're stuck. Fourthly, I pretty much said the same thing about a year ago (2005) when I was in my 3D course. So when the course ended, I didn't even want to touch it again. But here's a short story that made me change my tune: It was the year twenty-oh-six as Space woman Kamui was making her trek in the 2D quadrent of the androMEDIA galaxy. She was travaling in her super cruiser call the Flash 8 (designed and manufactured by Adobe-Macromedia) when she heard a distress signal from the 3D quardrent about a young woman's (AKA: SupahGurl) ship being attacked by the vicious Polygons of a small planet called 3DS MAX 8! However, previous dealings with the planet 3DS MAX 8 had left Space woman Kamui on the verge of death and her never wanting to traval to the 3D quadrent again. However, SupahGurl's pleas for help still persisted on the Flash 8 until they can no longer be ignored! So Space woman Kamui fired up the ActionScript 2.0 engines and made the jump to fiber-optic speed to the 3D quadrent to come to the aid of SupahGurl to help tame the Polygon beasts so she may pass through safely. But in order to defeat the Polygon beasts of 3DS MAX 8, she refered to the Autodesk technical manuals to find a way to tame such wild beasts. With the aid of the knowledge of the mighty ring, loop, connect, extrude tools along with the all powerful scale, rotate and move tools, Space woman Kamui was able to defeat the Polygon beasts and told SupahGurl how she can do it too. In doing so, Space woman Kamui became confident in this strange new 3D quardrent of the androMEDIA galaxy. It was after the events of this fateful day that she chose to explore the 3D quardrent more and help tame more of the Polygon beasts and tame the Vertecie Monsters of 3DS MAX 6. It was the jumpstart of Space woman Kamui's adventures in the 3D quadrent where she would stay for time to come. Just what kind of adventures will she face? Will she be able to beat the evil Lord NURBS? Will she ever learn the secret language of MAXscript? Will she ever master the secrets of the Z-Axis Clan? Stay tuned! Same forum! Same Space woman Kamui channel!Alright.... maybe it wasn't nearly as sci-fi or as cool as that but it all came out of trying to help a friend of mine in learning 3D when I didn't know much about it myself. So I hit the MAX tutorials and went from there. Since then, I've become addicted to it. So maybe just give it time. The best tip I can recomend to you is to think in 3D instead of 2D. I know you've got the 2D stuff down pat so I think you can definately do 3D. Just be patient and DON'T give up so easily! ~Kamui.EXE

are there even 4 Ds? I mean isnt the real world 3D? if it is, then what even COULD be 4D? it's just silly really.
anyways... i'm done with that one. I'll go find something else to be pedantic about.

are there even 4 Ds? I mean isnt the real world 3D? if it is, then what even COULD be 4D? it's just silly really. Well... if you want the technical non-Cinama-4D answer, yes, there is such thing as 4D. You see, the "D" in 2D, 3D, and 4D stand for Dimension. With 4D, it's like 3D only with the element of time mixed in just for kicks. If 4D is still confusing, blame Einstein, Newton... and all those other crazy scientists who came up with this idea! ~Kamui.EXE

Uh oh, just because it got mentioned... we had to work with matrices with 5 or even more Dimensions (that belonged at some part to the logarithm lessons, oh yeah Uni times...). We just live in a 3D world (I just say x,y,z) and it is hard to think in another way, maybe one of the reasons why I never passed these lessons... XD I have no clue for what stuff you need that "more than 3D thing" at all.
