/* *Part V *Part IV *Part III *Part II *Part I */"Yeah... maybe I could talk to someone, but who?", Martin said. "I have no confident here... or even friends! There's Aron, but as far as I know he's away I don't know exactly where..." He sat on his bed. "That's exactly why it just hit me in the face! I lost everyone I know!" He was almost in tears.
"Well, load the stuff you've got for now, I can wait.", Amélie said. "I haven't seen the town in a while."

Aron looked down to the gorge, having seen the dirt overflowing where they had been. "So much for retrieving the dead." Aron muttered. He thought it was going to be easy, find cars, get helo to pick them up, and be done with it.
Aron didn't even stop to wonder what was in the black box. It was the military anyway, they treated everything with equal importance. It wasn't like Tom Clancy and that all. His brother had signed up with the air forces, and after a short while gotten himself a desk-job in the so-called "Stargate Mountain" when it was found out that his eyesight had deteriorated, and was no longer 20/20. And the stories he had told were pretty much boring.
"That was unexpected." Aron said in a rather flat tone.

Phoenix grinned at Ricardo as she saw Ebony's antenna-tip spark, "See? It worked."
"I see," mused the Stealth, "Now which one of us wants to tell her?"
Ebony heard Phoenix and Ricardo talking and turned her attention toward the Trans Am and the Stealth and asked, "Tell me what?"
"Oh, I cast a transfer spell that would give you my magic for 24 hours so that you can see what being a user is like," explained Phoenix, "Now I'm just a regular car for the time being until the spell wears off."
"You did what?" Ebony asked flatly.
"Now don't get mad, Ebs," Ricardo cautioned, "This won't last long, but this will give you a chance to see the world through a magician's eyes."
"I'm not sure I like where this is going," Ebony rose on her shooks, "I don't even know any magic."
"Don't worry," Phoenix assured the Viper, "The knowledge comes with the ability, but I'll let you look at my spellbooks if you're lost on what to do."
Ebony just shook her front, not having anything to say to that.
~~~~~
Delfina climbed up to gain some height and took flight, rising up into the sky again on an updraft.
Liska sat down on the bed beside Martin. "We're all in that situation. " she said, "but we just have to carry on and hope for the best."
Ronald turned his mare around and followed Delfina out of the danger zone. Everyone else had already gone, and it was almost dark. The going was treacherous enough in the daytime, in darkness it would be a terror.
Tess noted that Ebony and Phoenix had gotten into a rather intense conversation, but did not overhear particulars. She went over to inspect the fencework and see that it was sturdy enough to take the onslaught of active car babies.
"I know... I just didn't take it well for some reason.". Martin wiped his tears with his hand. "That may be idiotic, but I'm just sick of seeing the same damn place and people all day and night long... I know I have no choice, but... you know..."
As hiking back with Lazaro and Julian, Aron was more careful about where he stepped because of the rapidly approaching night. He gave out a yawn, tired after all the action.
Then he thought he had seen something out of the corner of his eyes. He quickly reached for the spot where he flashlight was, but found nothing. He cursed in his mind, knowing that either he had packed it in the backpack after the linedrop, or had lost it during the drop or in the gorge. After all that had been done today, Aron was not in the mood to be jumped by a quadwolf.
"Lazaro, do you see anything?" Aron asked, unable to check it out himself because of the flashlight problem.
Delfina flew high overhead of the group, keeping track of where they were and which way that they were going. In this form, she was able to see in the dark and her eyes gave off a soft, red glow.
~~~~~
Ebony sighed, "I have no idea what this is going to prove, Phoenix, but the next time you try something like this, tell me. Okay?"
"I'll be sure to do that," promised Phoenix, "Sorry about springing this on you, Ebs."
"It's okay," Ebony replied then moved off.

Lazaro shined his flashlight in the direction of Aron, but not quite in his face. "Not really. Did you see something?"
He lifted his radio and hailed Delfina. "Aron thinks he saw something moving around. What's it look like up there?"
"It's hard on all of us, Martin." Liska put a hand on Martin's shoulder. "What can I say? When there's nothing else, there's always prayer."
"Take your time." Sally nodded. "I'll rustle up whatever we need."
Tess turned about as Ebony moved off from Phoenix. She still wondered what all that was about.
And so did Darcy...

"I thought I saw something just out of the corner of my eyes." Aron said, looking at the spot but didn't see anything really off. "Maybe the darkness playing tricks." He shrugged and was about to calm himself down until he heard a low growl, and the shape of a quadwolf came forth behind the group.

Delfina looked down on the ground, her eyes searching for whatever it that Aron had heard. She saw a sharp outline of a creature of the mechanical variety and her sharp ears picked up a low growl. "Guys, be careful," she said into the radio, "I think there's a quadwolf following you." (((((OOC: I'm not really sure what a quadwolf looks like... ^^; )))) ~~~~~ Ebony returned to her alcove to lay down. She thought that she just wasn't having a good day.

Lazaro brought up his flashlight into the animal's face, hoping to blind it and buy time for the others. "Get the horses out of here!" He drew out his shotgun, a short-barreled riot model, and racked it up, chambering a cartridge of 00 buck. "Come on, come and get yourself a faceful."
Julian waved Aron on and pulled out a pistol.
"Delfina," Lazara called up, "We've got problems."
Darcy settled a respectful distance from Ebony's alcove, but not entirely out of view. Her eyes went over to Ebony's for an instant.

Aron grabbed the straps for the horses and led them away. He was surprised to find Julian actually armed with a pistol, since he had pretty much said he came from age where swords were used. I gotta start learn to use a pistol. Aron thought to himself leading the horses away. They were getting jumpy from the tension, but Aron could still control them. "Why couldn't it be Icelandics? They don't flinch." Aron muttered as pulling them.
The Quadwolf, a starved older wolf came forward towards Lazaro. He had not fed for a long time, and even though he had never met such prey, he was ready for something new. He didn't know what the weapon was, so he got ready for a jump.

"Oh, we'll get Icelandics eventually," the packmaster snorted sardonically. "They're still frozen embryos in the lab." He gave one of the Haflingers a smack on the rump to get it moving after it froze and tried to rear.
Lazaro brought the shotgun to bear, directly on the quadwolf's face. In the light of his shoulder-strapped flashlight, he could make out the gouges and scars of old age, and stained, jagged teeth. Now this is trouble...
It was then that he saw Delfina swooping down, and moved back a few feet as he felt the wash from her wings.
