(((((OOC: Ebony's with her twins, but I'm not sure where the stables are located. Delfina is just sitting on a bench in the Center Court. Anita's being an evil hacker spy. Jade's with the riders. I just don't know what to do with either one of them.)))))

Dawn said, "My third-grade teacher was kinda like that. My parents had just split up, and Mrs. Doan helped me get through some pretty rough times in school."
Sid watched the activity outside. It looked like they were going to be working through the night. Shayla had gone out to the nearest airport to top off, leaving Kathleen, Brett and Robin. He glanced back at Phoenix. "Well, soon you'll be having even more animals for neighbors." As if to accentuate his point, a goat bleated loudly from the pen beside the gate. They had made several more escape attempts today, one of them coming dangerously close to the Trans Am before the border collies headed it off.
Lazaro had insisted on retaining his 12-guage Mossberg, and had loaded it with 00 Buck and rifled slugs in anticipation of having to ward off large, nasty critters made of metal. "Excuse me, Mater." He climbed up on the tow truck's bed and looked over his roof. "Them's some nasties out there."
"They're chowin' down on that iron elk like she's tinfoil." Doc growled. "Just so long as they don't come this way, we should be OK. But if they do... aim for the face."
"Got it." Lazaro gave a sharp nod.

Alexis and started to pace nervously as she heard the quadwolves in the distance. Her posture screamed that she was nervous.
(((Maybe the stables are near the entrance of the caves. Because you did mention that you had some ideas in mind for Phoenix that you wanted to get started.)))

Raine felt a surge of despair in her mind as she listened to Dawn. "Thaen what do I do... what can I do? I don't know how to connect with him... he is connecting to me a little bit... but, I want to get to know him better..."

Liska came by the stall that Ebony was using, with her dog. Enkidu wagged his tail and whined.
"Glad to be back with the twins, Ebony?" she asked.
"Maybe if you showed him that you were willing to work at it, he'd come around." Dawn suggested. She didn't know what else to say, really. She'd never met this person Raine spoke of.
A couple of the less dominant quadwolves had to wait for their turn at the kill. Still hungry, they caught strange new scents coming from the direction of a box canyon just to the east. Slowly and steadily, they approached...

Raine nodded slowly in agreement. "...Yeah... I guess I could ask him to teach me how to open up again..." She traced a finger over her PDA in deep thought. "You haven't met him, have you?"

Dawn suppressed a "DUH!" response. "I haven't even left this place yet."

Raine smiled a bit in embarrassment. "Ah... I forgot... sorry 'bout that. But yeah, Doc's really nice... a little reserved... but still nice... and he has many years of experience on 'im... I really admire people like that... He's a car like Ebony... A Hudson Hornet I believe... he's a brilliant cobalt blue and his eyes are like crystal blue orbs..."

Ebony looked up as Liska peered in, her twins nestled against her front fender as they were glad to be with their mother.
"Yes, I am," she suppressed a yawn, "and they're glad to have me back."

Delfina decided that this was enough sketching for now and went to her room. She didn't want to be too tired tomorrow morning.

Dawn was prepared to give Raine a chance, but this flowery description had the corner of her mouth twitching, and she turned her head away so Raine wouldn't see her on the verge of laughter. So what would this Doc think of such praise? Of course, it didn't help that Dawn herself was at that awkward age when anything germane to the under-10 set was "baby stuff" and the emotional drama of the over-13 crowd was so much histrionics. She wondered, vaguely, what this Doc would think?

<<< OK, after this one>>>
The quadwolves inched closer to the strange scents they were tracking, but they heard a heavy clack-clack as Lazaro, half-kneeling on Mater's roof, racked up his Mossberg and aimed it in their direction, while being careful to keep it clear of his new friend's face. Both animals flinched and retreated.
"They ain't so dumb after all." Mater chuckled. "They know a gun when they hear it!"
"How's everyone back there?" Doc called back.

"We're OK," Joshua called back. "Horses are a little twitchy, though."
"We probably won't get much more trouble from them," Doc said, "But we'll have to keep an eye out anyway."
And he did, as the sounds of their feeding and snarly arguements over who got buffet privileges went on into the night. By morning, very little would be left of the creature they'd taken.
