I'm a huge a fan of the Ace Combat series ever since I picked up AC4 for the PS2 nearly 3 years ago, and enjoying AC3 several years before that. I've always felt that they were some of the most overlooked and underrated games of recent years. Well, today the first official trailer to the series' next installment was just released: youtube.com/watch?v=zEDfRoeNLbwI've been considering an X360 over the PS3 for a while now, but this has just sealed the deal.

Looks to be another America vs. Soviet Union style thing (e.g. Osea vs. Yuktobania.) Which would help make it popular on an American system. XD Also, Emmeria's flag/logo seems to include the NATO star, and I suspect the third country on that continent has a lot to do with starting the conflict.
Either way, OXM (Official XBox Magazine) reported some time ago that this game would come to the PS3 somewhere down the line, just not at the same time as the 360 version. Which should be a good thing given that I'm not really impressed by the "bonuses" that the game is offering for the 360 version so far.

Big deal. I have Ace Combat 4 & 5 and they seem better.

The America vs. Soviet thing is getting kind of old, but hopefully Namco will be able to put an interesting spin on the story. I know that after AC4's very straightforward plot, all the plot twists than suddenly hit you halfway into AC5 caught me completely off-guard. The Russian-accent voice you hear in the trailer seems to indicate that either: 1. The "Soviets" are not as bad as they seem or 2. They're gonna have an "enemy point of view" thing going on like they did in AC4. Not sure about X360 exclusivity thing...we'll just have to keep our ears peeled for that. And Thunder, the game isn't even out yet and doesn't have much info about it out. What little there is there tells of countless gameplay improvements, amazing graphics, and a story/atmosphere that matches if not surpasses the previous games. BTW, someone over at Gamefaqs has sort of analyzed the trailer: boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=938702&topic=36051461Interesting.

I'm going to take a guess though and say that the third country on that continent (all the way to the west, the Kingdom of Nordennavic) will have a lot to do with this. And Gracemeria reminds me of Directus and San Salvacion for some reason.
I'm currently at the rescue-Nagase mission in AC5, and I have to say that story's pretty engaging.

Nordennavic(weird name) could play a role...one of the theories I've read at Gamefaqs says that Emmeria's been occupied for a while, and that you and your allies are a group of soldiers who escaped the occupation and are back to liberate the country(sort of like the Free French during WW2). Maybe Nordennavic is the country which gave them refuge during the occupation? Also, by looking at the trailer and some older screenshots, there seem to be three stories going on at the same time: -One focusing on a civilian woman and her daughter -Another focusing on a General and his subordinates(possibly the main character and his squadron?) -another focusing on a tank crew on the ground Good to see that you're enjoying AC5 so far...you're only a few missions before the point where everything goes to hell.

Speaking of everything going to hell...my hour at the PS2 cafe ran out before I could reach the end of the climax part. D:< Still, I came to a very disturbing realization last night...
We liken Glimmer to Hamilton in Formula 1. The you-can-tell-he's-sinister Commander Hamilton from Sand Island is Belkan, i.e. German.
WTH.

Hmm...now that I think about it, there's yet another similarity between AC5's Hamilton and Glimmer, but I won't spoil it for you.

I already finished the game, so I just figured out what that similarity is. XD Won't reveal it though...just so the others will have to find it out for themselves. q=

Just to make sure we're both thinking of the same detail...does the color "Grey" mean anything to you?

Almost like Silver. XD But yeah...it does.

*bump* Lots of updates on the Japanese AC6 Site, including information on what appears to be the first of the enemy "ace" squadrons as well as the new list of super air weapons. Interestingly though, they're also featuring Strigon's lead pilot (Voychek) rather prominently...almost as if he's getting his own subplot as well.

I downloaded it high-def off of the official website. Never before had a trailer brought tears to my eyes like that, though I will admit it made me feel really patriotic, especially with the choir music at the end.

I can't say I'm that excited...but the trailer does make me wish that I owned an X360, which I'm unlikely to get right now. Why do all the good games have to come out in the middle of my senior year? Oh, and here's some gameplay footage: youtube.com/watch?v=O5CcFrbnLuo
