I just saw it yesterday! It was really good I think! Mambo is so cute! How would you rate it next to Shrek?

OK, I saw the movie and I have a bit of a rant for it. .
It's totally geared towards kids, except for a few adult jokes smattered in here and there, only one of which was funny. The animation was really bland and ... just generally not very good. It looks like something that was animated years ago and just looks embarassing in front of all the amazing rendering that is in most movies these days. And the colours in the movie really bothered me, for some reason. They were dark most of the time, and when they weren't, they were so ... just boring. Not really stylized at all.
But what really annoyed me about it was the whole idea of the film. It was about Ciderella whom is named Ella for short in the movie. And she ends up falling in love with the dish washer/servant in the tale instead of the prince. And the whole idea is that you don't have to follow the norm and the prince isn't always the best choice. Which would have been totally, totally cool, except they made the prince an ugly, stupid, conceited idiot who needed an instruction manual to get him through life and couldn't even stay on his horse. And they made the servant a super-sexy pretty-boy with brains, charm, perfect looks, bravery, and a witty sense of humour. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the whole message behind the film? Of course Ella was going to fall for this fruitcake, you could tell the moment he appeared on screen that he was going to get the girl in the end and the less intelligent (and much more amusing) prince was going to fail. If they really wanted the movie to be about not following the norm, they should have had Ella choose the prince even though he was a silly bumbling idiot.
The only thing I liked about it was Mambo, who had an adorable character design, but that wasn't enough to save the film for me.
I also thought it was amuzing how very "adult" the design of the villainess was. She was very provokative and sexy, she reminded me quite a bit of an evil Jessica Rabbit. I hope I'm not coming accross as a perv, if you've seen the movie you would totally know what I'm talking about. But of course she was vanquished by good in the end, once again making the movie fall into the typical fairy-tale stereotype it was trying so hard to avoid.

Yep! That's what it said at the movie store at the mall. It also said May 1st at the farther mall though. It said April 24th at our nearest mall.
