Well...this turned gutterminded pretty quickly, although there's no denying that the biological theory is more "fun". But I think adding mammal-like nursing is going a bit too far...

gutters are important tho, you wouldn't want to be aquaplaning too quickly when it's raining.

In the RP context, we came up with a compromise between the "biological" and "manufactured" camps, mainly for the pragmatic reason of avoiding conflict between players with different theories. An expecting mother would have a choice between bringing the child completely to term within her own body (not always an easy proposition), or having the combined genetic information extracted through some as-yet-unspecified means and processed in a factory. The young that come about through either means would be quite precocial, like foals, being able to move about on their own within hours of delivery, though it might be a year or two before they're ready to keep up with their parents on the open road. Aircraft babies would unfold and stiffen their wings and blades like insects newly emerged from a chrysallis and be good to go afterwards.

like genetic engineering then? test tube babies?except made in a factory.... *ponders* well if I was a lady car I'd [expletive] then have the factory baby thing ^^

we will! XD
Okay in all seriousness, time to revive this thread. Time to look at why this thread was really made. The next question is what would the gestation period be for a car? For mammals they tend to go by the size of the animal... for example a cat or a rabbit is pregnant for a matter of weeks, where a much larger animal such as an elephant is pregnant for 22 months. Pooky, you probably know what horses are, I've only come across one pregnant horse in my time and I can't rmember how long she was supposed to be pregnant for... 14 months or something like that? I'm pretty sure it was over a year, I could be wrong though. And of course, we humans have a gestation period of 9 months.
So based on size and weight, what do you all think? Most writers are just using creative license and saying 9 months for simplicity's sake, but I think it's an interesting question...

Hmmm... interesting question...
Let me use Ebony, my own character for a minute. Ebony is a Dodge Viper so she's not a very big car. So, I think that her gestation period would be about six months.
A Pontiac Trans Am would, like more standard-sized cars would have a gestation period of eight months.
It's all based on each car's physiology. The size of the car controls the how long the gestation period is going to last.
Now semi trucks... that's a different story... I'm thinking that they're something like elephants...
I don't know about aircraft, like jets, airplanes, and helicopters though...

Gestation period, I think, would be determined by size. Trucks would have at least a year, like horses (Horses are 11 months, actually). Large aircraft might be something like elephants, reproduction-wise, so the extraction and factory processing might actually be quicker and more cost-effective if a female didn't want to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time. The average for most cars would be seven or eight months, maybe ten in the case of large SUV's and military vehicles. The natal passage in most cases would be accessible through the trunk area, but the original genetic insertion might take place through a different route for practical reasons.

not always size...look at whales..theirs is no less or more then a horses and we all know there is a large size difference there ..and i heard dogs are about only 2 months.. blue whales, which are the worlds largest animals only have a gestation period of 11-12 months while the much smaller beluga whale has one as long as 14-15 months..so i don't think it's all about size..it can also be on the brain size too...and how long a certain animals lifespan is too.. i kinda think for a car it can vary on the size and perhaps the "breed"
