I imagine Tex would ask for Strip's opinion on who to choose. Considering that he seemed to have a relatively high opinion of Lightning ("You've got more talent in one lug nut than most cars got in their whole body") and the fact that The Fabulous Hudson Hornet was his crew chief and his attitude improved, Lightning might have been offered the sponorship anyway.

Crash or no crash, I think it was pretty much Tex's intention to offer the deal to McQueen, not in terms of his conduct or sheer virtue, but just entirely down to marketing. Face it, who would help to shift more units of Dinoco-branded oil off the shelves - some callous green cheat with a line in dodgy mustaches, or the season's rookie breakthrough - just as photogenic as he is talented?
Either way, ol' Chicko would still end up green come next season - in more ways than one ;D

McQueen obviously won't be the next Dinoco blue boy, but then again....maybe in the long run He might become it one day. Then again.... seeing as the whole story is about McQueen realizing theres more to life then the fast lane.... maybe The King would indeed keep the sponsorship and maybe hand it down to another promising/talented race car..... Who knows..... well.. if Disney pulls a sequel out of they're pah-toot, maybe we'll find out. heh |
