This is continuing the discussion from the nextgen RP. First, I want to make clear that this is going in the "world" section so that it will not have a geographical limitation (which was part of what doomed the TIRS RP). I have several "background/origin" scenarios available for a merged world RP, i.e., cars and humans in the same 'verse.
- humans using some sort of device to evacuate a number of themselves from their native continuum, for various reasons.
- both continuua having merged many years back.
- both "peoples" having been put in a third world for various reasons.
I'd like to see interesting and well-rounded characters on both sides, and good and bad on both sides, not one race against the other for that's another dead end.

I've been watching from the sidelines for far too long - but now you've gotten my interest piqued, Eva. I might just join this one after all.
As far as discussions about the background are concerned, I'd most want to go for that second option - humans and autos living together in....well, some form of perceived 'harmony'. Much like the real world, with all of its wonderful, wonderful flaws and idiosyncrasies. Or, to put it in another way - it's just like the film, except there's humans living in it as well this time round. Easy enough to figure out, really. Might be the best way to actually do it, when you think about it.
Anyways, count me in, Eva.

I'd still like to see Delfina in an RP and I think I can make her an interesting and well-rounded character. Her TIRS history will have to erased from her profile, which is on the Cars Collective website, though, but I'm okay with that.
As for the humans tangent, I think that they would have to live in a society of their own, but would have regular contact with the native inhabitants, something like in Final Fantasy Advent Children, although there'd be some humans that'd be working for the vehicular equivalent of the Government, just like in the human world, and those that would still be able to carry on their old jobs that they had in their world before they had to be transported away.
But as for how these humans transported themselves, they'd probably would've either done it in a group or individually by accident. Most likely as a group because I don't see them doing it individually. The device, I think, would be rather alien in design and would be something like a temporal portal that could transport people, animals, and supplies to another world. And for the reason that they would do this is that maybe their own world is having an overpopulation problem and a pollution problem that requires that about a number of them in a group must leave to be able to survive. That is what I think they would've done it.
Once the humans get to this vehicular version of their world they would be rather shocked when they find out who the native inhabitants are, which would be normal when you find yourself in a place you've never seen or heard of before and don't know how to act. In time the two "peoples" get used to each other, forming a relationship that will help them understand the other.
Maybe that would've happened a few years ago and the humans now live as close to their old lives as they possibly can just to get by. It would be better that way and would probably give some people to more of a chance to create a character that would fit. I don't know. It's not perfect, but this is what I already had thought up for the human side.

I'm just thinking how a "merge" might come up, aside from some old man in a long white robe coming up and saying "We're cutting back on multiverses, so you people are just going to have to share a single one. Now play nice, children!" LOL
As for the reasons for the evacuation scenario, I could think of several things:
- Political situation getting untenable, particularly for people who like their freedom and privacy
- Massive global disaster, possibly an extinction-level event.
- Something like the 1632 scenario (novel by Eric Flint), or Island in the Sea of Time (by S.M. Stirling) in which a specific town or geographic area gets swept up.

How the merge would take place... um... *coughs and points to her previous post*
Anyway, I would suggest some kind of buried alien device (that would be like a temporal portal) that a group of humans find that would send them to the Carsverse. I'd go for that because I find that the easiest way for the merge to take place.

We can use that, Ebony, just figuring out the reasons that would encourage people to make such a wild-hair move. They would have to be pretty hard-up or desperate to seek that alternative, would have to have exhausted all other options.

How about global pollution? That would start to kill off life on Earth and the humans would be desparate to survive so they search for ways that would save them from extinction. I saw this in the movie, Red Planet, in which humans try to terraform Mars in order for their species to survive, but unfortunately that turns into a disaster.

There's always the Yellowstone Caldera, which could theoretically go off any time now. That would really screw up the world, especially the northern hemisphere, for years to come, on the scale of the Lake Toba eruption 75,000 years ago (just a few thousand humans survived that one).
A charismatic individual could gather up a number of people in the danger zone and use some means to get them out. She could have been dismissed as just another loony cult leader up til now, but when things are going that bad, it's "any port in a storm".

Okay... that would work. If it happens to erupt, the humans who wish to save themselves would probably have to go underground as quick as possible (Wikipedia says about millions of people would die if it happens to erupt) to survive and that is where they'd probably find the alien device that would take them to the vehicular world as their own world wouldn't be fit to live on.

Now I am imagening some geologist leading a group of people into Snæfellsjökull after a discovery of a portal inside the glacier/volcano.
Snæfellsjökull taken from a novel which name and author escapes me, too busy watching Early Edition on other screen to google.

Lots of caverns about where things could be found, and some of those caverns would be big enough to accommodate many people, animals and supplies. The valley itself is far from any road, accessible only by air or by foot or horseback along narrow game trails, and these people use animal transport as much as possible, to maintain their independence from technological infrastructure. They also stay under the forest canopy, to stay "off the radar", though desperate people would trickle in anyway.

So that would be how they would live if they're transported to the Carsverse or how they'll survive after the eruption happens?

I would think that's how they survive the eruption, with blast doors and valves at major openings. I could see them spending a few weeks there while they set up this device and figure out whether or not to use it. The leader might have uncovered it years before (or maybe it was an "heirloom") but sat on it until the right time.

And during those few weeks, the rest of the clan, as it were, would probably be getting downright bored and anxious of being down in the caverns for so long and would want to go check things out. Maybe the clan leader would try to stop them from going out and convince them that there might be a better way to make their situation better and easier to cope with and shows them the device.

So, at what point do we begin this, at the beginning or sometime after? I don't want to get bogged down in too much exposition, and I don't think you want that either.
