The Coast Guard and Navy ships will start to get suspicious when they discover that the oil spill was no ordinary oil spill, which makes them start investigating the incident to find the culprit.

Which could put racers in the spotlight in a way they don't much care for.

Chibi, I just had a thought...
Maybe we can make this RP just a little bit more free-of-use, you know, like we can start with the Powerboat race and then spread out to other coastal locations where other vessels can take part. Players don't always have to be racers, they can be tugboats, sailboats, fishing trawlers, research vessels, coast guard and navy ships, submarines, tankers, cargo ships, etc.
And the plot doesn't always have to center around the powerboat race, it could also have a plot concerning the Tallship Festival too...

Tall ships would bring an added dimension to it. Suppose that, like sea turtles they are very long-lived. Some of them may have been around for over 200 years. Think of the perspective that could add. It would be amusing to see Old Ironsides or Cutty Sark fiddling around with a modern email or cell system and cussing at it.

*lol* That would be VERY interesting. *pictures Old Ironsides grumbling about newfangled communication devices*
And not to mention the fact that I live beside a major river system, The Ohio River (which flows into the Mississippi), and I see lots of towboats and barges cruising back and forth to deliver their loads of coal to the electric plants beside the river. I also see sternwheelers and live near the place where these boats first originated, so I know a lot about river transportation.
