Phoenix nodded as she shifted into gear. "Sure."

"Okay, follow me," Ebony nodded and drove out of her house. Lorena shifted into Drive and followed after the Viper, who led them out into the desert toward Three Towers.

-Niles followed, a little worried but thankful at the same time. With a straight look on his front, the big van drove through the desert, keeping Ebony, Phoenix and his boss in his sightline.-

Ebony soon came across the landmark called Three Towers and pointed to her left. "The caves are this way," she told the group that was following her, "They're down in a ravine, though, so be careful or you might slip."

-Niles looked to Matt:- If I can make it, you can. -He gave a nod of his front, and continued driving. Niles was so NOT an off-road vehicle.-

Ebony had to stop at the edge of the steep incline that lead down into the ravine. "I'm way too low-slung," she said, "I'd scrape my undercarriage if I go down there, but I can still let BC know that we're here and want to talk to him."
She sounded her horn to get the big, black combine's attention.
Lorena looked down into the ravine and was beginning to pick up on some other kind of energy. Distressing energy that was still lingering there even though it had been years ago. She looked at the Viper, believing that Ebony had a different reason for not wanting to go down into the ravine.

Matt nodded to Ebony and looked down at the cave.

-BC woke up to Ebony's horn honk. He was in the middle of a nap. He licked the roof of his mouth to get rid of the sleep slime, and drove forward out of his cave. Revving his massive engine, he drove up the ravine, and parked in front of Ebony with a yawn.- Good mornin', Ebony... what's goin' on? -The gentle, but immense combine had a tired, groggy look about his flat, square face.-
-Niles looked at the combine curiously, his eyes rather wide. He was parked right beside the combine's header, and backed up some.-

"Sorry for waking you, BC," Ebony said apologetically, then gestured with her antenna toward Niles, Matt, and Lorena, "but these people would like to speak to you."

-BC gave a gentle smile to Ebony:- Don't worry about it. I spend too much time sleeping anyway. -He chuckled, then looked to the folk that Ebony was pointing to.- Hi, there... what can I do for ya?
-Niles gulped, then spoke to BC:- We need some information about a combine named Thing. I know your kind are rather closely knit, and maybe you might know more about this guy than we do.
-BC gave a nod of his cab:- Yeah, I know who he is... or, was. He died years ago. He's a popular campfire story among combines. Legend has it that he was the bastard son of a demon, and that he was half car, which is unheard of in combine society.

"His mother was a Scion xB from the rumors I heard in Nitropolis," added Ebony, "Thing lived there while I still lived there. Met him only once."
"What was his personality like?" asked Lorena in her gentle, friendly alto tone of voice.

-BC took a deep breath.- They say he was a maniac... that he was a murderer, but he was a kind of anti-hero to the underdogs, I guess. If you hurt another car on purpose, rumor has it, he'd put you on his hitlist, and by the end of the month, you'd be dead. My dad used to tell me that he was the only combine tuner, and he could drive as fast as any racecar. I read in a combine periodical that he was a mutant... he had a lot of genetic mutations that made him... different. He had big fangs, and cat-like eyes... it was always warned not to look into his eyes.
-Niles nodded:- Do you know anything about his parents?
-BC canted his cab slightly.- Not much. Like Ebony said, the rumor is that his mother was a demon car, and his dad was a combine. The dad cheated on his wife with the demon car, and Thing was born.

"I seem to recall seeing something like a hitlist in a cave outside the city at one point," said Ebony, "Had a lot of names scratched on it and those names I recognized as either cheating tuners or bad cops. But... the most scariest moment was that I saw my own name on that list... and it was the only one that wasn't crossed out..."

-Niles looked to Ebony:- Strange. It's like he was defending people. Had you done anything that would set him off like that?
-BC yawned, licked his big two-front-teeth, then replied:- Like I said, Thing wasn't a killer without cause. He had motive, and it was usually revenge. The moral of the story is... don't beat up on anybody because they may just come back 100 times stronger than you, and they'll kill you. Thing had a very rough childhood. He was always beat up, and picked on for being different. The legend goes, he took a vow to his spirit guides that he'd never allow that to happen to anybody around him, even if it meant he'd kill all the bullies in the world.
