Lyle crept up to the sign, after giving a SHHHH! signal to Huntress. He grinned widely and called out "HOWWWDEEE!"
The old cruiser on the other side jumped about two feet in the air before landing in complete shock. "What the... OK... figured that hadda be you two..."
Then he heard a baby giggling... "Oh my... who's that?"
"Johnny's handling some of the kids' activities." Darcy glanced back towards her boyfriend, who was chatting with Fillmore at the diner. "He's great with kids."

Huntress was trying not to snicker as she came up to Sheriff.
"That's Nathaniel, our son," she replied proudly, grinning, "Nate fer short if'n ya'll wanna call 'em that."

"Yep, Ah reckon 'e is," Huntress playfully nudged Lyle.
~~~~~
"Ah, I bet he'd be a good father someday," smiled Ebony. She had managed to gather up the twins, who looked like they were about to fall asleep.
~~~~~
"Alright," Lee, again, let Phoenix take the lead, being chivalrous.

Lyle chortled as Huntress nosed him. "Hopefully not jest YET."
Darcy helped Ebony bundle the children off for their nap. "I know he will be." She smiled to the Weathers as they passed by again.

"Hey, Darcy, if it's not too much trouble, would you and Johnny be willing to watch the twins for me while I'm working my shift this week? I'd really appreciate it," said Ebony as she and her friend took the twins back her house.
~~~~~
Huntress was still grinning, "Heh. He has a long road ahead o' 'im."
Darcy paused for a moment, as if doing calculations in her head. "I'll be working on the mural at the museum for a few hours each day, but we should have time in the afternoon and evening."
"Hopefully I'll be retired by then, and he'll be Ed's problem!" Sherriff laughed. "Well, I got some snoozin' to do, so I'll see ya later, OK?"
"Well, that may possibly work out," nodded Ebony, "Sheriff gets mornings, Ed gets afternoons, and I get evenings, although we'll be rotating a bit over the week. But I think I'll get some off time to spend with them, at least. I'm pretty sure they'll behave for you guys."
~~~~~
"Later, Sheriff," said Huntress, as she and Lyle began moving again.
~~~~~
There were a couple of familar faces at the diner. Lee went over to snug Amber, settling beside her in a stall.
Over in another stall, Boost saw Phoenix and waved at her.
Phoenix grinned and pulled in next to Boost and nuzzled him, "Hey, have a good run at the Butte?" She asked.
"Don't... even... think about it."
Boo paused, mid-stride, freezing as his effort to slink out of the alley unnoticed went up in smoke. Almost three years of hanging in a semi-domestic setting had molded the foxdog to obey warnings whenever his owner issued them.
Along with his pet, Shawn Kleinsworth had also caught scent of several new personas, familiar and new. He wasn't planning to say "hi", just take a peek at the diner to see if it was who he thought it was. The aero hybrid remained one of the undisputed hermits of Radiator Springs. Not much about him had changed.
Whenever he happened to be in town, he kept to himself. These temporary visits lasted anywhere from a few weeks to a month. Now, at the tail end of a month of interior painting and renovation clean-up jobs, he was more than ready to move out.
Then there was the Rally. He hadn't planned to attend, having heard about it in the course of his latest stay, and he still didn't once it was in full-force. His plan was to slip out of town in the wee hours of some morning when there would be no one to pin him down with questions.
"Stay." Boo edged back into the alley, sitting down on his rear wheels as Shawn headed out, along the back alley behind the shops, his usual route to see what was up at the town center. He paused, sticking to the shade offered by Ramone's House of Body Art. He narrowed his eyes slightly, picking out who was who by sight, at a distance, just the way he liked to.
All the old faces... he mused to himself, before noticing an ominous bundle strapped to Amber's side. And some new ones.
((Anyone ever had an overexcited pet blow your cover when you're trying to eavesdrop from afar? Forewarning: Boo's fixing to do that.))
"I bet Lee is gonna be participating in the rally," grinned Boost, "Chelsea looks like her father and mother combined. She looks like she's gonna be ripping up the dirt roads like her father."
~~~~~
Ebony managed to get the twins to bed and then went over to the diner with Darcy.
