I'm not sure if this is the right section for this type of thread... Now I remember that there had been a thread at the old CFU about what kind of sports that the cars in the Carsverse had and thought I'd bring it back here on HH. So, I saw this on TV awhile ago: Rock-crawlersI thought that this might be a great sport for thrill-seeking 4x4s... Are there any other sports that Cars would have?

I'm more of a fan of Formula Offroading. At 2:11, you see GGJ, the master of f-offroading. I'm aiming for seeing the last two tracks in september, since it is only an hour or two drive away. But both Rock-crawling and Formula Offroading requires modifications to the max. The most popular model to modify in Iceland is a Willy. GGJ drives his, and has been for over 10 years. There is no photograph of his car online painted by his first sponsor at all. It's that old, older than the internets! GGJ also appeared in Top Gear, driving across water on his car.And now I am reminded of the Top Gear olympics. Too bad I don't know of any videos with that, can't even remember what season it was in. But they were playing strange football thing on Iceland, and a car going down a ski ramp. Because cars are flexible, I think there are games that require dexterity. We have them. Ball games, Paris, tag and more.

Aha! Fresh meat, er, topics in this category! Yay!
I can't believe that i never thought of extreme offroading conditions as an equivalent to rock climbing (and for those who have gone rock climbing, it's not easy!). Do they get harnessed in as well to prevent falling to oblivion, or perhaps just onto their roofs?
I remember that Stickers95 from fanfiction.net mentioned in his fic that Lightning grew up around kids that played ball but he was more drawn to racing, so there has been some exploration of sports that would include a ball.
And, growing ujp a Subaru girl, I also remember that it was a common phenomenon that a Subaru Loyale would be able to withstand being submersed in water up to about the door handles and still be driven - would this be an equivalent of going swimming in the Cars world? It's a logical stretch though, because mechanically I'm sure it does have it's dangers (ie - electronics shorting out) but then again, perhaps on Cars cars all these things are covered a bit more thoroughly so perhaps a car CAN be submersed in water and call it swimming...

The real trick is propulsion in the water. Spinning the tires obviously won't cut it, and even just waving the back tires back and forth won't do them much good.

true.... the car "drove" through the water in the Loyale situation, but to actually keep a consistent movement that would keep them afloat would be something else entirely! :S

maybe they could have some type of airsacks..or large lungs.. to me..cause i "animalize" everything my wierd hands get a hold of LOL.to me they have guts..so.they have a very large heart and lungs(since all that speeding and distance they can do..lots of power and endurance) i figured their large lungs filled with air defentently can help alot of marine animals do that.. i do to when i swim..but when i want to sink to the bottom just empty your lungs..no problem..if their full of air..it's hard to stay on the bottom..

...Or they might have giant tires that would let them float, almost like our innertubing. I think they'd have to be more tolerant to water than our cars if they were going to try swimming or even floating.
Other sports... Volleyball - maybe they'd hit it with their antennae instead of tires? Rodeo - this was mentioned on the Wingnut City forum...the various events could be modified, like one drawing had a car running barrel races himself instead of doing it on horseback. Mudding - they'd probably need special tires for it

Volleyball - maybe they'd hit it with their antennae instead of tires? www.deviantart.com/deviation/36884689/This picture suggests that they use whatever's convinent- Ramone apparently used his back end, while it seems Lightning is going for a fender shot.

I kinda think they have organs and such like normal beings and an engine but I'm not quite so keen on how you make the cars like horses....like the whole marking their territory and going into rut/heat....I find that just plane weird. As for sports... they could easily play games like football( or whatever they'd call it) by hitting the ball with their tyres, fenders etc. They could play tennis and other games like that by holding the bat/racket with their aerials. Maybe stock car races to them would be like wrestling and showing off eachothers strength.... I mean The King's crash would have done a hell of a lot more damage to a normal car but he still seemed able to drive around ( To me, it looked as if Mcqueen just helped him along like he was shocked from the crash then later, after parking up at the Dinoco tent he seems okay) If DDR ( dance mat) counted as a sport then they could have bigger mats and have to move their tyres to the arrows instead of feet. like so >>> www.deviantart.com/deviation/50606743/

Yes, I forgot about your DDR pic -- cute! I can picture Cars being good at dancing...maybe doing aerobics too. Thanks for the picture of the volleyball game, Reiji. I'd seen that before and must have kept it in my subconscious when I thought about volleyball as a possible car sport. I wonder if they could accomplish a sport like ice hockey, and whether they'd wear skates? Roller hockey, or skating for that matter, might be sort of pointless.

Iceland football? Gah! I think I was talking on IRC with one about Mighty Ducks 2 when that was, since that movie contains Icelandic hockey team (which speaks russian or gibberish). I am pretty sure I meant football on ice.
As for paris, I dont know what it is called in English. I just hoped it would be the same name. Kids usually draw with chalk on the sidewalks some squares which then they hop on. The usual shape is of a cross. Somewhat like this:
X XX X X X

I could imagine some big vans and trucks lifting ( or dragging) weights around. And I also wonder how a demolition derby would go down.... gladiatorial battles? (((((.....do horses pee to mark their territory? and what animal urinates on another one? ( I'm refering to when Doc peedled on the other hornet in your fic))))
