"He can't be happy about that arrangement." Daryush chuckled. "Brenda's really trying to make sure that he upholds the court's orders."
"There were some." Marianne said. "But they just sensed me, and when I was screaming myself hoarse they only heard unintelligible whispers. I guess carverse with their abundance of magic makes more people who can hear me a bit better."

"Housing assignments aren't really her decision to make, but she still has influence with those who do." Pepper smirked. "That means he has to leave his porn stash in his old quarters and she and her neighbors will see everything that goes on. You mess with the Alpha Mare at your own peril."
"Funny thing is, I never felt so much as a smidgen until after I landed with the kids." Amara shook her head in puzzlement. "There was Aunt Karen, but she'd had a head injury during cadet training and everyone thought it was just that which was giving her "visions". And some thought it was just another clever scam to get out of military service, or any arranged marriage. If it was, she must have been a great actress. But some of what she said was corroborated by people who also knew of the "haunting history" of certain places."

"At least his kids won't really get into the stash then." Daryush said. "Though, his son is at the age where his porn-seeking radar is really working overtime. I wouldn't mind healthy normal hereto porn for someone his age, but given what Paul spoke about in public, you got to wonder what he was hiding as well."
"Perhaps moving to this world opened up this whatever you have." Marianne said. "But I'm not really an expect in this, or even a minor dabbler."

"I can't say much more with the kids about." Pepper glanced about to see if the little girl was wandering again, "But he seems to have, shall I say, an obsession with more than two doing the deed? And a little bit of swinging to boot. And that could be the least of it! No wonder she left him, nothing a woman hates like being dragged into situations with near-strangers."
"There is that place in-between we have to go through." Amara pointed out. "It's called "Moryeni" by the folks who live there, but it's like an Earth that never left the ice age, complete with mammoths and sabertooths... though the dominant race looks like they took a humanoid upper half and put it on the shoulders of a four-legged body. Maybe you've already seen one. Anyway, magic level's so high there it interferes with radio transmission, but they mostly communicate telepathically anyway so it makes no difference to them. Maybe that's what cracked it open."

"I knew one couple, they did proposition me." Daryush chuckled. "Poor Paul's brain will break if he hears that. Those two gals just wanted some exotic middle-eastern to spice things up."
"Most likely." Marianne said. "And you probably want some sleep now. I just wanted to let you know that you were still sane, though if it were good news or not is up to you." She turned to the wall, but waited a bit, she didn't want to give her a shock, again.

"I think that kind of thing is overrated." Pepper sniffed disdainfully. "When more than two are involved, jealousy and resentment always get into the picture at some point. ALWAYS. I haven't seen any exceptions."
"Thanks." Amara turned and lay her head down again. She was relieved that she wasn't going mad, but now there was a whole new complication to her life. Marianne was the first one... now that the talent was opened, it wouldn't be the last. A part of Amara wondered how she could be having this debate without going nuts, but she had already been dealing with users for years. Her exhaustion finally caught up with her again, and she was drifting off inside of a minute.

"Yeah, the whole thing turned awkward, and there was a bad start which pretty much killed the mood." Daryush shrugged, though another version of the tale of the encounter was recounted with the male populace. They weren't interested in tales of near-threesomes.
"Let's just hope he will be behaving the next three months. Kids don't have to see their dad misbehaving."

"Hope he has enough self-control to do that." Pepper glanced back towards the family. "And that they're getting whatever counseling they need."
Moira, having gotten the treat she wanted, was now bouncing around again. This time, it was because she was jagged up on sugar, and it showed in her hyperactive motions and her mouth which never stayed shut. Pepper looked on this with slight dismay. "Is it just excitement or does this kid have that reaction to sweet stuff? I don't think her mother would've let her have that."

(( Sugar rush is a myth, been busted. )) "And I doubt the court will look kindly on her nagging about the details." Daryush said. "Don't worry, unless she crashes the sugar rush will last just few minutes." He pushed aside his now empty can and yawned.

"They used to think that human kids got a sugar rush, but that's been debunked now." Pepper observed the child, "But it's all too true of our lot." A CV jet's digester tended to process sugar into energy very rapidly, too much for some kids to handle without boucing off the walls.
It was then that Brenda and her daughter finally put in an appearance. Becky's eyes widened as she watched Moira bounding around the place, almost colliding with other patrons as her father tried in vain to rein her in without yelling his head off. Finally, the Hornet child took matters onto herself and gently blocked the other girl, who was still chattering excitedly.
"Whoah!" she called out, "Looks like you had too much sugar."
Moira blinked and looked around. "I did?" She dipped her head sheepishly. "Sorry... that musta looked stupid to you."
"It's OK." Becky gave the F-16 girl a nudge. "But your dad is calling you."
With a blush of embarrassment, Moira returned to her father's side. He looked relieved.
Pepper viewed the scene with amusement. "Becky's turning out just like her mum."

"And she has an eye for her job as well!" Daryush chuckled. "She even gave our young S-3 some talking to. He dismissed her of course, but that little glitch of his disappeared in the exercise the next day."
Becky eyes a section near Paul, and more importantly for her near Moria, but she knew that Brenda was never really relaxed around him, and she didn't want to deal with tired and annoyed mother tonight. She waited for Brenda to choose, as reluctant as she was.

Brenda was relieved that her daughter wasn't pushing too strongly for a slot too close to Paul, and went for a couple between Pepper and and Shekinah Hayslip, a King Air 350 woman who was a flight lieutenant in the light transport section. She knew Shekinah well enough to share a "nibbling buddies" relationship. She couldn't get that close to anyone in her own chain of command. It wasn't long before the two were amiably seeking out each other's itchy spots while waiting on their orders, though Brenda still kept one eye on her daughter and gently prompted her to let the attendants know what she wanted when they came up.
Pepper looked over to Becky, who seemed to be making the best of a less-than-perfect situation as she saw it. "Hey, Becky. How'd it go with you today?"

"Good, Mr. Carey finally graded the papers, got an A-." Becky said smiling. "He still tells me I got what it takes to study history for a living." She rolled her eyes, clearly not that thrilled about that idea.

Pepper leaned over. "That's a good mark! So what sort of history are they teaching in fourth form these days?"

"We're learning about Australia, this one." Becky said. It was a project with the teachers, to see if children did get interested into history at this early age. The thing was to present it to them in a fun and motivating manner. The teachers made the topic as fun as possible, and saw that there was indeed interest, though all of the students dreaded memorizing years.
"I wrote about the aboriginals." She said.
